President Donald Trump: The Thread
FBI Director James Comey said he let cameras into the New York FBI offices to film a new television series in hopes that he might build trust with the American people. “I worry sometimes that people don’t know us,” Comey said in explaining why he green-lighted “Inside the FBI: New York,” a new television documentary by Dick Wolf of “Law & Order” fame and documentarian Marc Levin. http://nypost.com/2017/04/12/comey-oks-new...ost-fbis-image/ This is going to be an extremely fascinating show if it ever makes it to air now that Comey's been fired.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
Though he was relaxed, attendees said he went through his usual pronouncements, making clear he doesn’t think the media covers all the good work the White House is doing. “I don’t watch you guys as much anymore because if I did, it would be all hell. You couldn’t tell that i went to a good school, studied, that I succeeded in my companies,” he griped. Channeling his inner Greg775 (politico.com) “I’m not a psychologist, but there’s something strange going on with Mr. Trump,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said during a CNN town hall on Tuesday night. Many of those divisions are of Trump’s making, too. He starts in Saudi Arabia, which he’s attacked in the past, and where he’ll give a speech that’s being written by the same aide who wrote his Muslim ban. Then he’ll go to Israel, which he may have just sold out to the Russians on their intelligence gathering, but where he’s already scrapped a stop to the historic site of Masada, constricted his visit to the Holocaust Museum there to 15 minutes, had his national security adviser suggest that the Western Wall isn’t part of Israel and appears to be backing out of his promise to move the Embassy to Jerusalem. Next up, Rome to see Pope Francis, who’s sideways criticism of him last year for attacking Mexican immigrants Trump called “disgraceful.” Then, a series of meetings for NATO and the G7, which he spent the last year degrading, in addition to swiping at several of the leaders whom he’ll be seeing. Plus, he’ll spend the NATO part of the trip in Brussels, the city he called “a disaster” in his response to the terrorist attacks there last year. Thursday, Trump tried to practice statesmanship. He congratulated the Colombian president on the Nobel Peace Prize he won last year for making peace with the rebel FARC, though he oddly then added, “Thank you very much.” http://www.politico.com/story/2017/05/18/t...ity-plea-238582 Depending on which poll numbers you go by, Trump is somewhere between 8% and 22% approval rating across European Union countries as he undertakes this first international trip.

Sox and M's Thread 5/18
Safeco is one of those "pretty" modern stadiums with the retractable roof and the gimmick of the trains going by. I guess anything is better than the Kingdome (except for home field advantage for those teams like the Twins and Blue Jays back in the day). And too bad we can't trade Abreu to the Braves, but he wouldn't have a position to play when Freeman comes back...

**2017 Films Thread** (Beware of spoilers)
Haha. Maybe it's Amber Heard or her lawyer? Part of the WannaCry virus hacking group? It would be a shocker if that movie was actually any good in the first place. Oh, the irony of pirates stealing from pirates literally and figuratively (depending on your perspective regarding Disney and Johnny Depp going to the well one final time too often).

Two hopper to SS, routine play. Chance Sisco, #1 O's prospect and a catcher hammers a resounding double into the gap and through the wind into deep RCF. Giolito was 6-5 with a 2.97 era in 3 minor league stops last year. Strikeout swinging after going 3-1 in count, bat goes flying into the seats, two outs. Groundball to ss Everth Cabrera to get out of the inning, 23 pitches, ERA at 6.19. 13 more scoreless innings he'll be at 4.50, haha. Fulmer, btw, now at 3.86. Danish 3.32 and Lopez 3.14. Another double, wind-aided over Jacob May, halfway up the LF wall by Logan Schafer to lead off bottom of the third. Groundball to SS, runner can't advance to third. Walked Michael Bourn Identity/Ultimatum/Supremacy for the second time. Giavotella hits into second dp in two ab's. 6.03 era, 3/2/0/2/1, just 36 pitches.

Trump doubling down today on idiotic statements that contradict previous ones Director Comey was very unpopular with most people," he said. "I actually thought when I made that decision, and I also got a very, very strong recommendation, as you know, from the Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. When I made that decision I actually thought it would be a bipartisan decision because you look at all of the people on the Democratic side, not only the Republican side, that were saying such terrible thing about Director Comey." CNN.com Response, Rosenstein names Bharara, Yates and Comey to assist Mueller's investigatory team.

5/18 Games
Engel with sixth homer, up to 760 ops. Giolito walked Michael Bourn to start game but got a 5-4-3 dp that Delmonico almost threw away. Line drive smoked but directly at 2b Ladendorf, who was well-positioned. This NOR line-up is filled with former big leaguers, fwiw. Don't love that Moncada's thumb injury is top hand from his dominant LH side. Btw, Dunning's brother was activated by the Knights. Asche activated as well but not in the lineup.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 17, 2017 -> 08:00 AM) Let's just let this end it: That fox (local fox) story was ridiculous hearsay from the start, interviewing this "former law officer" who said he may have heard from someone who heard from an officer that they found emails from wikileaks on his laptop. Except that police dept didn't have the laptop. He is not a PI hired by the family. And he heard about it from the TV. Or not... https://www.yahoo.com/news/fox-stands-dnc-m...-001103315.html

On Tuesday the outlet said the staffer revised his comment to: “I guess I was wrong about the timing… We can’t even wrap up one Russia fiasco before we’re on to the next one.” Then came the damning blow from the official, who the Daily Beast revealed worked on Trump’s campaign: “I don’t see how Trump isn’t completely f***ed.”

President Donald Trump: The Thread
By Josh Dawsey and Annie Karni Already, Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort, whose work in Ukraine has come under review, has a lawyer. So does former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn, who last week got served with a subpoena by the Senate Intelligence Committee. White House press secretary Sean Spicer earlier Wednesday – before the Mueller news was announced -- sidestepped a question about whether Trump himself was considering hiring a personal lawyer to represent him in the ongoing investigation. “If I have any updates for that at some point I’ll let you know,” he told reporters on Air Force One. Asked if he was representing Trump in a personal capacity on the Russia investigation, Trump’s longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen replied in a phone interview, “I don’t know if he’s made a complete decision. There’s several mitigating factors.” http://www.politico.com/story/2017/05/17/t...-fearful-238535 Special prosecutor to complicate West Wing life

613 OPS for Anderson. Climbing steadily now.

White Sox @ Angels 9:07 CT
Every time you watch Frazier hit, he seems completely off balance, in between or like he's just guessing up there. He either gets hot and everything just clicks and a 2-3 week hot streak begins or he ends up with a Dunn 2011 season. Melky struggled for almost the entire 2015 season, especially against LHP. Then was the best (at least most consistent) hitter on the team the following year. After tonight, we'll be in negative territory in the RS/RA balance for the first time all season.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 17, 2017 -> 11:02 PM) I thought we would be in first place ? I know what you are saying though As of tonight, we'd be 11th in the 2018 draft. 7 teams really struggling in the NL. Who knows if the Pirates come out of it, or trade McCutcheon/Cole. That's not counting the Reds and maybe the Brewers falling back into mediocrity. The Mets and Giants, at least for the moment, seem doomed.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2017 -> 10:56 PM) If he doesn't like what Rodon showed his first two years, he's going to hate the pitchers coming up from the minors the next few years Who could hate Kopech, he's really entertaining? (And, fwiw, Lucas Giolito is really a cool kid, like Borchard, hope he makes it). But yeah, we've had our share of 100+ pitch 4-5+IP outings in recent Sox history. Hector Santiago was a master of that.

White Sox @ Angels 9:07 CT
QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 17, 2017 -> 10:55 PM) I'm just not sure where he's going with this. Is this another case of Caufield being Caulfield or does he not remember Rodon's improvements from the previous year? I just enjoy playing Devil's Advocate sometimes. In reality, it's hard for me to do much more than watch the highlights, most of the time. That said, we really have no idea (still) what's wrong with Rodon physically and how he will be affected when he does come back. When's that simulation game scheduled, again? In the overall scheme of things, about the only thing that can save this season is Luis Robert, a series of miraculous heists by Hahn in June/July or ending up with the advanced collegiate bat we want in the draft. And yeah, it would be a huge bonus if Anderson ended up with a 725-750ish OPS and Jose Quintana at 3.25-3.50ish and in the Top 30 in strikeouts. Finally, Moncada striking out less than 1/3rd of the time and putting up an 800-850 OPS.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 17, 2017 -> 10:46 PM) Rodon struggles?! News to me. Apparently 125 walks is not a concern, at all. PTAC has stated on numerous occasions he'll never have a completely consistent delivery. He might be a Cy Young candidate SOMEDAY, but the timetable has slowed significantly. It will be a battle just to get his innings pitched to the 160-180 range for 2018 in order to set him up for when the White Sox need to (at least attempt to) compete in 2019.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
You can bet your bottom dollar that Mueller's not going to focus on leakers/unmasking/anonymous sources. The GOP can complain all they want, but he's going to be under a lot of pressure (from Trump and his followers) to provide some type of conclusion as quickly as possible after he sets his budget within the first 30 days, and there's not going to be time for that nonsense. Hopefully he'll hire Sally Yates and Preet Bhahara (well, wishful thinking). Good read for those fearing the "Deep State/Military-Industrial Complex" is out to remove Trump for Pence...about Mueller, 9/11, Comey and Mueller ties, etc. http://therealnews.com/t2/index.php?option...p;jumival=19120 PAUL JAY: Right. Well, my fear in all of this is that something Trump wants to do anyway, now he's got enormous pressure to do, which is to turn his sights on Iran. He's in Saudi Arabia. He's going to be working with the Saudis to build an anti-Iran front. There's nothing like a good war to make him presidential, as we heard after this attack on the Syrian base. The more dangerous this gets for Trump, the more likely he needs a good war to get out of it, and then the Schumers, and the Democrats, and the deep state, everyone's going to be cheering him on. COLEEN ROWLEY: Well, maybe he learned the lesson that they only cheer him on for a couple of days, that this bombing- PAUL JAY: A good fight with Iran, they'll be cheering him on longer, I think. COLEEN ROWLEY: Well, that's the whole problem, and that's what James Madison warned about, that all presidents ... That's why we were supposed to have checks and balances on going to war, and of course, that's long been gone, dissipated, and now we have many wars, undeclared wars. We don't even call them wars. So there's underlying problems here. Absolutely, Trump, to his credit, has been insisting on some kind of détente with the nuclear superpowers, and even China, to some extent. Maybe, who knows with Iran? It seems like that was definitely in his campaign rhetoric, that he was going to look hard at tearing up the agreement with Iran, but I think the deep state, the military-industrial, congressional, media complex, has really been working largely together. Whether they actually want to see Trump out and Pence in, I think they probably would be happier with someone less independent, who tweeted less, which would be Pence, and so that's certainly a possibility, that if they can get enough momentum here, that they would prefer Pence, and I think that that would be bipartisan as well, and absolutely- PAUL JAY: And that would be even more dangerous. COLEEN ROWLEY: Exactly, even more dangerous, and not for Iran, but for Russia, for China, for all of these even nuclear superpowers.
