  1. DJ said that Saladino's great at BP but can't quite perform that way in the actual games...game speed. Helpful. Not sure if we should get excited unless we have a six run lead, lol.
  2. LOL. It's obvious Hosmer, Cain and Perez are the three guys to be careful about....and a little bit with Morales, at least limit him to a single. Other than that, it's all AAA/AAAA players. Yet somehow Hosmer was allowed to get 4 RBI's yesterday.
  3. If they hire Buddy Bell, that's the last string...not even the White Sox would dare do that to their fans.
  4. That was near the end of April, 2000. Yes, look at their record in May-July of that season...zipped to the best record in baseball. Rob Fick flipped off everyone, Jeff Weaver and Juan Samuel were other big elements of it.
  5. That was Gonzalez's 13th consecutive game started that his team ended up losing between the Sox and Orioles (a bit unfair, I realize)...but that's quite a lengthy string. Unfortunately, it was also his 32nd birthday. Not much of a gift from the bullpen there. Now it's sort of scary with the bad mojo and Sale's start changed to Sunday. These guys beating us (other than Hosmer), not even the prospect experts with the MLB Network have a clue who Merrifield and Eibner are. At least Cuthbert is somewhere on most Top 10 lists for the org.
  6. QUOTE (ronkark @ May 28, 2016 -> 12:42 AM) Thoughts. This team. Has managed to suck the joy out of 6 weeks of strong play. Unraveling it all in a 17 game stretch. Rollins - Absolutely horrendous he didn't throw that ball. I watched replay 5 times. No way he at least doesn't have a shot. I think he was thinking two, then when he looked and saw it was gone, that cost him time to throw to first. But he had nothing to lose by throwing. that non play was a fire ignitor. Abreu - Another K with runners in scoring position. I'd rather Frazier up late because he has shown clutch-ness. Abreu has not. Crazy idea: What would Abreu bring in a trade. He's 29 already. Slow and doughy. Poor D. That gonna get better in future years. Cash in now. Get a package of ready now players or soon to be. The Pen- Horrendous. Fat Albers is filling up the zone with hittable pitches. Duke is junk. Jennings is also junk. Pen needs two more arms, not one. Gonzalez - two good games in a row and it's a damn shame neither were wins. Catchers - i hated flowers. i really did .And i don't want him back. but navarro and avila are not doing even close to enough on offense. it was a wash. not an upgrade. Lawrie. Plate discipline. Stop forgetting it. He'll be back in the .240s in a week. Jerry Sands: I agree with everyone else. He offers nothing. Our bench brings nothing to the table. I'd rather Davidson up. He can sub in 3rd and first. They didn't give Frazier a chance to drive in runs there, they definitely wanted to face Abreu. In terms of trade value, it wouldn't be worth considering trading either him or Fulmer.
  7. Rollins didn't really have a play anywhere. That wasn't his fault. He makes a bad throw trying to get Dyson running at second (and there's no way he could have gotten him) or throwing it down or the line or into the stands, everyone is ALL over him. It was the right play at that moment, as frustrating as it was to eat that ball. Paulo Orlando must have lowered his career average against the Sox to around .350. Progress. I think the essence of the game (and both teams) was the fact that Eibner's mom was going crazy in the stands when he laid down that sacrifice bunt....the same exact reaction as if he'd poked a three run homer into the fountains. Eibner was also the one to get the Gatorade bath, not Hosmer. When's the last time something like that happened with a White Sox player getting a hero's treatment by the media for bunting runners into scoring position? Can't think of a time, ever. And the Royals were already leading 6-5, so it's not like he put the runners into position for Hosmer's go-ahead hit. How many DH's have you seen put a sac bunt down? (I watched the video again and it was pretty clear his mom didn't really start getting ecstatic until after the crowd's reaction was so over-the-top for a sac bunt...seems she was confused at first why they were so happy.)
  8. Then you look at the next set of guys like May and Trey M., you struggle imagining them being more than spare parts on a major league roster, the 24th/25th men. Unless you're a big fan of guys like Tyler Danish, Guerrero, Thompson, Jordan Stephens, it's quite difficult to be enthusiastic. Engel also took a step back after his great AFL. Hawkins? Let's see when his K rate is below 25-30% Or when he can stay healthy for 2-3 consecutive months. All the hype about Micker Adolfo and Keon Barnum's "power" bats? That kind of went out the window... Meanwhile, watching guys like Thompson and Semien contribute elsewhere in positions the Sox could use some help at is more than a bit frustrating.
  9. Here's the thing. Name any random White Sox former player: Thome Rowand Konerko AJ Crede Buehrle How would they be even less equipped to deal with today's players??? Ventura is respected and keeps the clubhouse calm, but it seems that Jim Thome would do or accomplish the exact same thing. Maybe Rowand would be a little more hyper and chippy, but definitely not Thome or Konerko. AJ, that would be fun watching him trying to get along with Cooper and KW. Black Jack McDowell (who would never be offered the job anyway) would be the other former Sox player with an edge. Unless they went with Carl The Dinosaur Everett in a bid to "mojo back that leadership" they supposedly lost after 2005.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2016 -> 10:52 PM) There was statistically about a 5 pct chance that Perez would walk in that situation. We aren't taking about someone with a good eye at the plate Yep, he's either going to K or make contact...he's extremely difficult to walk, unless you're just not even allowing him to expand his strike zone away and off the plate on a slider.
  11. Basically, we used five pitchers in that one inning. We gave our 2nd best reliever the ball when we finally were trailing, burning him up for later in the series. It's amazing how "luck" always is against the Sox (whether it's the umpires or batted balls getting through) and for our opponents. It's almost uncanny how as soon as the crew in NYC overruled that call at 3B that virtually every Sox fan was expecting the Sox to end up trailing by the end of it. And we also gave the runners 2nd and 3rd there, Jennings' walk, what a comedy of bad events colluding for the final result. And, then, in the end, we have virtually nobody off our bench who can threaten to get to Wade Davis or Herrera. Eaton should have never been on the bench in the first place. Why Sands was DHing and batting 5th is just beyond me. Why Rollins was "demoted" to the bottom of the line-up against a LHP, and why Avi was so low...and why does Alex Avila even have a role with this team? Not seeing what he brings to the table. I guess it's those walks increasing our OBP. I guess the only thing to say here is this not unexpected or unpredicatable. The Texas loss definitely was...they still haven't gotten past the shock of that game, at least you can't see it in their play (other than Frazier, Eaton and Sale). And even Chris started to lose his composure last start out against CLE. Everyone's starting to feel the pressure and trying to do too much.
  12. Dan Hayes ✔ ‎@CSNHayes Ventura on walking Hosmer for Perez (2/2): " ... Dukie has had some good numbers against Hosmer." Ventura on walking Hosmer for Perez (1/2): "You consider it. I mean you load it up, you don’t give Jonesy much to work with there. ...
  13. I heard Samaritan and MACHINE from Person of Interest were both interested in the job, and already have a relationship with Michael Reinsdorf. Or the computer that just faced off with that South Korean kid. Think of the savings...could also run our drafts and trades/evaluation of talent.
  14. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 27, 2016 -> 09:46 PM) His agent duped people into thinking he was an ace. He and Cueto have been in the NL.
  15. Great, we've just listed the same reasons we'll end up with Thome or Aaron Rowand as the next manager.
  16. Oh, I forgot, failed miserably to bring in a "good" (not even asking for great anymore) bat this offseason...especially a LHed one.
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 27, 2016 -> 08:35 PM) To be fair, Shields has been good this year on a really bad team, knows the AL, and I'm pretty sure he has an opt out after this year or next. Why would he do that? He's not going to get MORE money on the open market...unless he just had a tremendous season this year and led the White Sox to the playoffs and went into next year's FA market, but what exactly are the odds of that happening?
  18. 9-14 Happened the day of May 3rd. They actually won that night to go to 19-8.
  19. It would be typical White Sox if they traded for James Shields when there are about 5 other more obvious problems with the team. Albers/Duke Rollins against RHP Catchers not hitting Garcia/Lawrie cooling off Abreu, where did he go?
  20. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ May 27, 2016 -> 09:14 PM) You know you're bad when you're 4-16 in 16 games 4-12... From 6 outs away from 14 games over to up by 1/2, 1 and 2 1/2 games. Was a 6/7/8 game lead over CLE/KC/DET. The worst part is KC has lost Moustakas, Gordon, two starting pitchers, Jarrod Dyson missed the first month, they've had a ton of injuries and managed to stay in this thing despite Omar Infante being the second worst contract in the game to Ryan Howard. Kendrys Morales woudln't fetch Avi Garcia in a trade even. (Well, maybe!)
  21. How did Harrelson handle things? Didn't hear any comments about him in the game thread...
  22. This will be the 4th loss on Albers, I think all of them since the Orioles' series.
  23. Not even sure why Avila's on the team anymore... If he's not a better option than Navarro. He obviously hasn't been hitting for power.
  24. I'm not even sure I'd feel happy about JB Shuck hitting there, but he would have the best chance...comparatively.
  25. You want to PH Avila there for him? Saladino? Our bench has no options to get a hit against Davis...
