  1. And no country is well positioned to do that, which is Trump's only leverage. Maybe Russia, but certainly not economically with depressed oil prices. Who does that leave? India? Japan and South Korea? Germany? Brazil? Indonesia? China's the clear choice, along with Russia (depending on how seriously you treat Iran, ISIS and North Korea)...to fill that vacuum. But China has to first deal with Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and Vietnam/Indonesia, to start with. I highly doubt Singapore and Finland/Norway/Sweden/Denmark want to ruin their pristine reputations. Meanwhile, lots of Trump voters are gobbling up $10,800 Ivanka Trump collection gold bracelets and baubles. https://www.yahoo.com/style/ivanka-trump-wo...-174930008.html Economy, fixed!
  2. How is Chris Getz qualified again to work with 12-18 of the better prospects in baseball when he was the second rung from the bottom on his previous organization's management depth chart?
  3. Houston will probably look to give away their 1b/DH who struggled mightily (Tyler White), just like the Rangers with Gallo. Tucker, the first round draft pick with some similarities to Ryan Sweeney but more power potential, is another name. Plus they do have a logjam with Bregman, Gurriel, Altuve and Correa, unless one of the first two go to LF/DH/1b (losing some surplus positional calue.) Plus, they already have Gattis. There's also the Pirates, Rangers and Cardinals to consider. Still believe the Dodgers want to send Puig packing in any major trade.
  4. https://www.yahoo.com/news/official-west-vi...-132100329.html Trump is going to lose any remaining goodwill if he doesn't disavow this stuff immediately. Yet another obvious partial consequence of the birth certificate nonsense we kept hearing year after year. Already half the Chinese intl. students in my prep school are looking more closely at Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Not to mention they already have heard so many stories about gun crimes and robberies in major cities like zchicago, NYC and LA.
  5. 2018 they have a very fun and entertaining team. 2019, compete for wild card spot, add at the ASB...and best position themselves for key broadcasting rights contract negotiations. 2017, obviously suffer but get another high draft pick for 2018. Let's not forget we already have Collins, Burdi, Fulmer, Adams, Stephens and Hansen in the pipeline.
  6. http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...yadier-alvarez/ Yadier Alvarez isn't a decade away. $16 million price tag on July 2nd. It would be amazing to bring in both him and Moncada. Was easily hitting 100 mph in the Midwest League, you take him over DeLeon, especially if no Urias. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=m...tching/2016/ALL 55 ks in 39 IP for Great Lakes, MWL. Will turn 21 next March. With Sale and Frazier, it feels like you almost have to get Urias. Otherwise, you clearly need 5-6 guys back, starting with Bellinger, De Leon, Verdugo and Alvarez as well as a catcher. Puig would be the other wild card...although more for selling tickets and repackaging him. Might not want him for more than a season or 1 1/2 years anyway. But he would meet the bill of providing some marketing hype.
  7. How much is Brett Gardner worth today? That might be Eaton in 2-3 years, especially if he piles up some more injuries. Peak value will never be higher. We can only equate Sale, Q, Jones and Eaton as being close to their highest value, and Melky based on freeing ourselves from under that contract when we're not going to be a contender. Frazier has a lot of value still, too. Gonzalez. Robertson, Abreu...wait and see going into June/July. Shields, same, obviously. Rodon and Anderson are going nowhere but you might trade Rodon if he blows up into a stud or hold onto him if you feel you are a contender his last year or two. That's a toughie. We know he's gone, though.
  8. Eaton has a 5.1 average WAR over the last three years. That said, his "bad clubhouse rep" in AZ, somewhat controversial Twitter history (bonding with Sale and the LaRoches) and propensity for injuries and reckless play won't get you a Top Ten player haul in return.
  9. The irony is Trump wants to make it easier to get any new drug through the FDA pipeline. That's great. Who cares about safety when there are quick profits to be made? Theranos isn't dead yet. Of course, he doesn't want to make it easier for an American to go to Mexico, Canada or even Cuba and buy that same drug for 15-20 cents on the dollar. But he will take care of those with preexisting conditions and those under 26 can stay on parents' plans without raising costs because medical savings accounts will save the day. Great! We don't even need to have Medicare anymore, forget about President Bush's unfunded Plan B mandate that cost a trillion or two. Boom! Deficit reduction. While we're at it....privatize Social Security! But damn...the stock market has only done exceptionally well from 1993-2000 when Clinton was president and 2009-2016 when Obama was president. Oops. Might want to overlook that little detail. Forget about 1987, 1998, the tech bubble, 9/11, 2008....we can blame all those problems on irresponsible tax and spend liberal Congresses.

  11. QUOTE (brett05 @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 07:26 AM) I'm sorry, who is the official cabinet? I'm sorry, Mr. Bannon is already a banner start. There was someone exactly like him in Obama's cabinet named Janet Reno. Oops, that was Clinton. What next, security clearance for his three kids and Jared "Not The Bad Type of Jew" Kushner? How much do you want to bet he doesn't name even one Democrat to his cabinet, let alone arguably the second most important position after Secretary of State?
  12. QUOTE (brett05 @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 06:59 AM) I think many on this board need to know what the phrase civil disobedience means and how in many instances that is NOT what is happening now. Democrat protests=sedition and treason GOP=righteous indignation when their fundamental rights and freedoms are abridged by a gun confiscating socialist Muslim loving apologist for America's rightful Christian dominion across the globe
  13. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/another-republ...obamas-cabinet/ Brett, what concessions has Trump made so far? Obama had the biggest mandate in modern times, and picked Republicans like LaHood and Gates for his cabinet. PT Trump is trying to jam every possible right wing misfit in the last decade into those positions. Why would anyone be surprised by the reactions?
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 07:08 AM) Yeah, I don't see Braves as an ideal partner. For me, a package would have to be around Inciarte, Swanson, and Albies, but that's still on the light side. Inciarte is Eaton Lite. He's not going to put up huge offensive numbers, but should always be between 2.5-4.0 in the WAR category. He's a lot more valuable in a bigger outfield than G-Rate.
  15. http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/mids...3V4MiHDLd9g2.97 Dansby Swanson...SS Obviously, we already have Anderson. Not sure that trading all those guys like Albies, Newcomb, Allard, Soroka, Toussaint, Fried, etc., makes sense for them. They have a lot of young pitching talent, but the White Sox need the opposite. Foltynewicz is another name to watch who has a ton of upside, but mixed results so far. Demeritte who came over from TEX is their big power bat right now.
  16. Let's not forget young Cuban Yadier Alvarez and his 100 mph fastball as a starter for the Dodgers in the low minors. Hahn would definitely be looking at him, Bellinger and Urias to headline any deal. The pieces exist to make it without Urias, but Alvarez is still at least a couple of years away...maybe second half 2018.
  17. And to think, Chris Getz is going to suddenly be in charge of developing 12-18 top prospects in the game. Shouldn't they have considered that (the offseason direction) before they named him, that they might need a more seasoned hand?
  18. God help the US if they approve Giuliani as Secretary of State... https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/black-ve...-160950540.html Black veteran refused free meal during Veteran's Day promotion at Chili's by PT TRUMP supporter My Chinese wife has page after page on her social media of episodes in the US already with episodes like eggs being thrown at Chinese/Asians, go home, go back to China, CHINK. The Chinese media is having a field day pointing out all of these episodes of "hate" against Chinese in the US (not only students, but American Born Chinese Descent/ABCD) as well as giving full coverage to all the anti-Trump protests.
  19. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 08:56 AM) I haven't been able to fact check, but I saw an article saying he didn't want to live in the White House full-time. Is that true? He's expected to split time on weekends in NJ, Trump Tower/NYC and Mar A Lago in FL.
  20. http://www.forbes.com/sites/susandudley/20...fp#5b9ea9ca309b Scary stuff about gutting environmental regulations and using the COngressional Review Act (CRA) to undo 150 rules put in place since mid May of 2016. Can it really be the first time since Herbert Hoover in 1928 there was a Republican president with control of both houses of Congress (and soon the Supreme Court)? That worked out well.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) If you are rebuilding, wouldnt keeping a young player who is affordable be part of that? Who is more likely to put up 1.5 war by July 1st, a healthier and cheaper Saladino or Lawrie at less than 100%?
  22. Yeah, the only checks on him are Ryan/Priebus, the US Senate, Supreme Court and public opinion...but he has his two years. At this point, nothing should surprise us anymore.
  23. I'm truly terrified that Herman Cain's approval is one of your conditions for getting on board with Trump!!!! If you decrease taxes disproportionately for the rich, and even the tax credits for child/day care are going to disproportionately benefit the rich...then of course the stock market will be for that. Estate taxes and corporate taxes being cut will only blow up the budget all the more, and make it less and less likely that Social Security will be preserved in the future without attempting to privatize it, cut benefits, increase SS payroll taxes or raise the retirement age again. Deregulation. Getting rid of Dodd-Frank and making it easier for banks to get into more "too big to fail" situations which only exacerbates their worst tendencies to take on risk, which invariably when it goes wrong ends up being borne mostly by the American middle class that are lightly invested into the markets (as the benefits of that risk-taking ideology working out ALWAYS accrue to the rich/elites)...how are these ideas good, and when have they ever worked?
  24. If he doesn't rebound, Hahn is going to be ruing the trade deadline the last couple of years when he had opportunities to dump that contract. Rebuilding teams can't afford to pay elite closer salaries (especially for non-elite performance). For much of the last two seasons, the argument was that his save conversion rate was decent and mostly that his peripherals were impressive or at least looked better than the traditional metrics. But it was obvious over the course of the season that his stuff was just not as crisp...maybe his confidence was shaken a bit in the middle of the season or he was "overused" in the first half, but he nevertheless goes into the offseason (due to the injury) with nobody realistically knowing what to expect in 2017. Someone mentioned that Jansen, Chapman and Melancon being out there complicates his trade market...not only that, but the Royals are sitting on Wade Davis, who's a year away from free agency. Miller's name is coming up a lot in Cleveland, because of their payroll/budget and the absolute haul they could get for him. So until those five situations are clarified, Robertson is likely stuck with the Sox and vice-versa.
  25. 60 Minutes revelations... 4. He wants any of his supporters attacking minorities to “stop it.” Trump feigned ignorance when Stahl asked him about the rash of racially charged attacks on minorities since his election: “I’m very surprised to hear that. I hate to hear it.” (He added, “I think it’s a very small amount.”) What would he say to Trump supporters taunting and attacking minorities? “I say stop it. If it helps. I’ll say it right to the camera: Stop it.” He later added, “I think it’s horrible, if it’s happening.” But he cautioned: “I think it’s built up by the press.” 8. He won’t fight to overturn gay marriage. Opposition to LGBT rights has been a part of the Republican platform for decades, but Trump signaled that he doesn’t want to continue that fight. When Stahl brought up the LGBT community, he proudly replied, “I mentioned them at the Republican national convention.” And he’s not planning to oppose gay marriage in the courts, he says: “It’s irrelevant, because it’s already settled. It’s done. I’m fine with that.” So a "border fence" in some places....and won't commit to prosecuting the Clintons/Clinton Foundation. https://www.yahoo.com/tv/donald-trump-60-mi...-015817963.html
