Also pretty darned high likelihood GA Tech catcher/athlete Vahn Lackey goes to the Twins in the upcoming draft. Start the head to head comparisons with the team's second biggest rival. Twins seemingly kicking the tires on the likes of Flora and Lombard, Grady Emerson presumed to be going second still.

Rikuu Nishida gets the call! Kelenic gets the boot
No way it's his decision, Branch Rickey III status or not...

Twins at Sox 1:10 Memorial Day Battle for 2nd
https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIN/2026.shtml Twins are actually favorites this afternoon at ESPN with Zebby Matthews pitching quite well in limited action versus Sox starter Anthony Kay, better of late but overall pedestrian #'s Byron Buxton having a career year so far, only one homer behind Mune...and a noted Sox killer like Josh Naylor. Trevor Larnach and Austin Martin (their version of Tristan Peters) have been their other solid players, along with the injured Ryan Jeffers at catcher. Royce Lewis continues to be an enigma, Luke Keaschall at only 0.3 bWAR and Brooks Lee always manages to underperform his high draft pick status. Strength of Twins their starting rotation and an improved bullpen since the deadline giveaway last year. Taj Bradley and Joe Ryan are both very tough at the top of the rotation...Prielipp and Ober have been solid, only Woods Richardson and Abel (health) have disappointed.

2026 MLB Draft Thread...White Sox Control Draft/V.Lackey closing fast
Then what was the point of Getz hyping up Teel/Quero as some kind of niche or strategic advantage like they'd pretty much cornered the catching market? Maybe it turned out to be a disadvantage in the end....if you're not hitting in at least 75-80% of games, hard to develop a rhythm. Quero definitely doesn't profile elsewhere...at least for now. Teel at least might be able to play everywhere but middle infield and CF. Maybe part-time DH.

but he averaged just 2.35 fWAR the two previous seasons combined

At what point do we start to believe?
At least they should have thrown in a Playboy TV subscription back in the 80s...

Look at how Mauer and Posey cratered the second half of their careers. Starting to see it with Will Smith, too. Only Yadier Molina and Sal Perez held up well into 30s. Sox fans also witnessed it firsthand with Grandal’s decline his final two seasons. Added to that recently is the Adley Rutschman Decline Enigma. Of course…Sox would greatly benefit from those 6-7 prime years while Lackey was still in his 20s.

Robert/Acuna a no win for either side. The spin will be Acuna Hays Hicks Sandlin Newcomb and Dominguez with that Robert $$$ improved the team, but not by very much.
