  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:33 AM) When is the last time a weekend of baseball played out according to the most likely scenario? True enough, and Hernandez got lit up Wednesday afternoon anyway. Maybe the time Cotts started for Buehrle against the Yankees in 2003 and we all knew it was the wrong move...except for Manuel.
  2. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 12:47 AM) Cop is done for. Even if the guy speeds off that absolutely doesn't warrant deadly force. Call in a bolo and the clown would have been caught eventually. Milkman can come and destroy this post if he dares... LOL. Well, obviously the defense attorney's acting like he was already speeding off at breakneck speed and that he was in danger of being dragged under the car or even killed by the driver (DuBose) beginning the process to put his key in the ignition or reaching to turn the engine over and start it (assuming he'd turned it off in the beginning), but there's almost no way to continue spinning the incident that way with the pretty compelling video evidence. I'm sure he will start warning all motorists stopped by the police will be emboldened by this video to flee the stop as soon as the officer gets out of the car and starts approaching the side door. Guess the police will have to start using more of those devices like in Fast and Furious that latch onto the metal and knock out the car's electrical system and stall the engine.
  3. Just to put this whole thing in perspective, the Angels could be facing Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke and David Price this weekend. Passan http://sports.yahoo.com/news/three-way-dea...-050518209.html Reliever Paco Rodriguez reportedly would be going to the Braves and reliever Luis Avilan to the Dodgers as well. Since the Dodgers already paid Oliver $28 million and $2 million for this year's salary, the Braves would control his rights over the next five years for just $32 million, so the Dodgers just ate $30 million as part of this deal....
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 12:05 AM) Good post, Big Finn. I thought I knew baseball, too. The Sox won a few games, sure, but always played horrific enough during little losing streaks to fall to 7-8 below .500. I figured once 7-8 under .500 a big-time losing streak on a road trip (like this one) would put them 13-15 under .500 and that finally would be that. Now I figure the law of averages suggests we can't immediately follow a good streak by losing a lot and falling 7-8 games back AGAIN. As of today I also believe. If the Sox keep catching the ball and Melky keeps hitting like this, I'm confident the pitching will be there like it normally is. They might have fooled us again, but let's hope not. I'd love to play the one game wild card and see what happens. If we win that and the pitching rotation was set right, we might make the Royals sweat a bit. Except we'd be making the Astros/Angels sweat if Sale was lined up...
  5. Rock said that he'd basically lost his relationship with the "insider" Sox contact and wasn't sure if it was worth it to try to get it back, or words to that effect.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:57 PM) http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/30/us/ohio-sam-...sing/index.html White cop shoots African American man as he tries to undo his seat belt. Appalling. Sadness for the man who was shot and killed and his family members who are devastated. Cops continuing to show no restraint, make fools of themselves and cause tense situations regarding race relations. Shooting to kill in these non dangerous situations is so unnecessary. This cop who probably has no record now goes to jail the rest of his life probably. Agreed with about 50% of it, except for the last sentence. I'm can't remember the last time there was a similar "questionable shooting" where a police officer served 10-15 years, let alone a life sentence. He won't keep his job, but 90% chance he's exonerated by a grand jury. After watching the video, it's clear the fact that DuBose was trying to start the car and flee will have to be taken into account, but it's almost impossible to make the argument that starting a car would constitute an action requiring deadly force in return. Worst case scenario for the officer, you've already taken down the license plate (and he was driving on a suspended license, so there were logical reasons why he would feel he should try to make a run for it, at least in his own mind) and you call for assistance/back-up. It would be one thing if the officer was in front of the vehicle and he was trying to run him down...or if he was reaching anywhere near his belt/pants/under the seat or glovebox for any type of concealed weapon.
  7. Almost forgot. What is Dozier doing bunting in a tie game in the 5th, when you have a guy at second and nobody out? Not only is Dozier our best hitter, but you needed about 5 more runs with our bullpen. It would be nice though if Dozier could have had a professional at bat and moved the runner over. Thanks for the bullpen help Ryan, we could have got Clippard for jack squat... There have been so many base running errors by this team it has reached the level of being an embarassment for the coaches. A little league team can show more discipline on the base paths. The pitchers have lost their ability to hit their spots as well. And with bases loaded down 8-3 in the 7th, why wouldn't you have Hunter with 350-some career homers pinch-hitting for singles/doubles hitter Nunez? Did I just read that correctly? "What's with Sano? So far to me he hasn't shown much. When will he start hitting home runs?" Are you truly serious? You mean beyond the .300 average, .429 Obp, .522 SLG and .951 OPS. Might want to find a new sport if these are poor numbers. We could just give up on him and sign Adam Dunn, right? 62 games to go with a disproportionate 13 versus the Tribe. If they can go 8-5 against the lowly Tribe and a modest 25-24 against everyone else they would finish 85-77 which may be good enough for the wildcard, and, at the very least, keep them in the race until the very end. startribune.com/sports game comments
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 07:56 PM) s*** is going DOWN tonight. Quiet now. Everyone's still wondering what the hell happened with the Gomez deal and who will come up with the best package for David Price...Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, Astros, Blue Jays, etc. http://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tige...dline/30856131/ Love the optimism in Detroit, with a big picture of Urias as their headline story with the trade deadline approaching. It's hard to blame them with Price/Cespedes and even Soria capable of fetching a lot....and Rajai Davis and Avila will draw some offers as well. Must sting for Alex's dad in their front office to see his son auctioned off, but it's part of the business.
  9. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:17 PM) Slate tomorrow: DET@BAL, O's have won 5 straight so it would be nice to derail them a bit KC@TOR, Umm, Go KC? SEA@MIN, get hot for 3 games SEA Since they're starting on a Thursday, one would guess that's 4 games at Minny. Bad luck for the White Sox here, no Felix Hernandez in a four-gamer. JA Happ vs. Hughes T. Walker (rough last four starts) vs. Milone Montgomery (also rough the last four after dominating) vs. Gibson Iwakuma vs. Pelfrey Yankees FRI-SUN Rodon vs. TBA Danks vs. TBA Samardzija vs. TBA Most likely scenario, Twins split and the White Sox take 2/3. Twins leading by 2. However, with how hot the Yankees are (yes, so are we) and Rodon/Danks both going, anything's possible on the positive or negative side. About the only thing we can predict ahead of time is that Samardzija will go 7+ innings for the 10th or 11th straight time.
  10. How can Wheeler be less of an issue than Gomez? Weird. It's like the mysterious Konerko debilitating hip condition that some even likened to Bo Jackson's avascular necrosis.
  11. I think they're more likely to wait until August and see where they're at....and add someone that can play RF/DH or just a pure DH/1B type who can take LH at-bats away from LaRoche, like a Mike Napoli. Someone who's not going to cost a top prospect and is more along the lines of the 2012 deadline deals where teams were basically dumping salary and the best player we gave up was Eduardo Escobar.
  12. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:02 PM) All those tears were for naught, Wilmer. https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/626587983026724864 Man, didn't realize there was such a virulent anti-Mets strain out there. Maybe it's the whole Madoff thing. Pretty funny. Unless you're a Mets' fan. They should be happy with all that young pitching at least.
  13. Jake Thompson? Pitcher, right? Supposedly the Reds have pulled back Aroldis Chapman from trade consideration as they want to compete next season and still have him under contract for one more year.
  14. Jason Thompson? Pitcher, right? Supposedly the Reds have pulled back Aroldis Chapman from trade consideration as they want to compete next season and still have him under contract for one more year.
  15. Not liking this deal as much for the Phillies without Gonzalez, Odor or Profar included. Then again, it's a HUGE contract for any team to take on. There's not insignificant risk for any team acquiring a veteran pitcher on the other side of 30 these days who has never gone through TJ. Partially depends on how healthy Harrison is...that would make it a bit more palatable.
  16. Starting to make a lot more sense for the Phillies, although they have a long way to go...still have the Ryan Howard deal on the books. I think they're done with Utley and Cliff Lee after this year, but yikes. LOL at Chi Chi Rodriguez, loved the way he played the game of golf with such infectious enthusiasm back in the day...especially his antics on the green with the putter.
  17. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:34 PM) That's what Ibwas wondering... What would it take. Are they at the point where they wood take a guy like Danks, who is on a shorter contract, and a few guys in the 4-15 range? That would still leave the White Sox about $20-30 million short on their side of things....those are huge contracts for aging veterans who have already peaked and threaten to become among the worst 3-5 contracts in the game, along with CC Sabathia.
  18. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) Sometimes you have to sacrifice yourself. 55 years in the Chicago area and I moved to F***ing Utah in July 2005. Well, at least you're close to the world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir and some beautiful scenery.
  19. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:31 PM) I think Hanley doesn't care because his team is garbage right now. I remember a year or 2 ago when the Dodgers were en fuego he was ballin out and having a good ol time. Was unaware his D sucked at 3B sucked though. I thinking as a converted SS he was pretty solid over there. He apparently isn't as involved in games in the outfield compared to 3B. They would have been better off not signing Sandoval with Hanley at 3rd, IMO. Yes, in 2013 he and Puig almost single-handedly lead that team to 52-9 or whatever it was, 53-9.
  20. If KW is more interested in Ramirez or Sandoval than Mike Napoli, he should be fired...unless they're sending 50% or more of their contracts back and not asking for one of our top 3 prospects.
  21. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:26 PM) To pair with Darvish They've got like 8-9 starters right now. Darvish Hamels Holland Gallardo (FA at end of the year, but they really like him) Chi Chi Rodriguez Harrison Colby Lewis Nick Martinez Logically, Chi Chi Rodriguez would have to be the other prospect...or Odor/Profar (albeit injured).
  22. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:22 PM) Really not sure about ranger prospects but that doesn't seem like a lot to me. I have a feeling a lot of dominos are going to fall after Hamels goes. I would imagine that last player has to be Odor or Profar? Doesn't seem like it beats the package for Cueto or even Zobrist. Is Williams a Top 100 prospect? Alfaro I'd at least heard of.
  23. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:20 PM) I can already see the complaints on his defense. That contract is ten times worse than CarGo, Bruce, Ethier, etc. Only if he could play 3B more competently than Conor Gillaspie would it even be worth considering, but the new book on the Dodgers spends 1/2 of its pages dedicated to the disruptions caused by Ramirez and Puig for that franchise. No way. With Hamels gone to the Rangers, that leaves the Dodgers and Yankees to fight over David Price. Cespedes is supposedly on the move as well now.
  24. Nick Williams, Alfaro ©, Eickhoff (sp.) the package for Cole Hamels to the Rangers.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) The Red Sox must not have practiced covering 3rd in spring training. Just be contented with the Gordon Beckham highlight reel for arbitration hearing purposes, lol...even has black and white montage set to music.
