  1. Or just that Scott Carroll (and Leesman) would get quite a few starts, along with Rienzo....that would triple or quadruple the number of total starts by Erik Johnson. Petricka and Putnam notching multiple saves would have been pretty shocking, too.
  2. If you go back to that 2000-2001 Class, it would have looked something like this... Kip Wells Garland Rauch Biddle Barcelo Stumm Fogg Myette Parque Buehrle Beirne Matt Ginter Crede...B.Anderson (later)...Chris Young....Olivo....J.Reed....Anthony Webster...Rowand...Borchard...B.McCarthy (later)
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 08:04 PM) Find one post that stated anything about a contract extension. There were at least 3-5 pondering that question...not five years or anything so crazy but at least 2-3 years (including buying out his last year of arbitration).
  4. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 08:03 PM) I don't understand the people who don't like him As long as he can play 150 or so games per year on a consistent basis, we can live with him not stealing 30+ bases. Kluber has a perfect game going for the Indians in the 7th tonight. Infante breaks it up quickly for KC.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 08:02 PM) Gload played in the major leagues as a 24 year old. He also didn't have Adam Dunn, Jose Abreu and Paul Konerko blocking him.
  6. Gordon Beckham has things figured out finally and should get a contract extension. SoxTalk two months ago.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) Soon to be 26 year olds in the minor leagues who have never sniffed the majors, face long odds of being comtributors. Was Ross Gload a contributor? I'm sure his path was even more circuitous.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 07:54 PM) LMAO. I know you're a Beckham hater, but this is ridiculous. Beckham smoked the ball and Fuld had no chance. The Twins' announcers said he should have had it...got turned around and took a bad route. Continue to think like Hawk about Beckham if it makes you feel better.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 07:53 PM) It is still strange to see the Twins play bad baseball. Not since 2011...
  10. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 07:52 PM) Ha, Frank just tweeted a picture that AJ, Rowand and Dye showed up in Cooperstown for him. Awesome. Where's Everett? Willie Harris? Nice baserunning there by Beckham...got bailed out by Deduno's throw into LF.
  11. Fuld just gave Beckham a double there by getting turned around and taking a bad route. So that makes up for some of his "hard outs" recently.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 07:26 PM) You make no sense. Most of your minor league system will never play an inning in the major leagues. Categorically discounting every minor league prospect because they're older than Dayan Viciedo (or comparing their development arcs) makes even less sense.
  13. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 07:12 PM) I don't understand. And yet everyone seems to want an aging Russell Martin on a 3 year contract to catch next season.
  14. Walk's (almost) as good as a hit. Magical glasses work again!!! 20 walks. Still holding at 106 K's.
  15. McEwing just cost them a run. Salazar was conceding with that throw to 2B.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 06:58 PM) Karen Henness ‏@MlbKaren 3m MLBPA Files Grievance Against Houston Astros for Unsigned Draft Picks http://lastwordonsports.com/2014/07/24/mlb...ed-draft-picks/ … #LWOS @MLBFB "It’s frustrating listening to people who are saying we tried to pull a fast one." Luhnow has no clue about public relations. You want to change perception, do something about it. Whining or complaining about the media or bloggers won't help. Don't create a pattern that simply gets reinforced until nobody is willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. Don't try to screw over your draft pick and then change your offer at the last minute and expect a different reaction out of reasonable/rational people.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 06:53 PM) He is older than Viciedo. But that definition, we should just release 60% of our AAA and AA rosters. The Purge 3.
  18. Flowers now with 6 k's in 29 rejuvenated Ab's with magical glasses. Tied with Dunn now...106 K's. At least the Twins are going to honor Konerko in their last trip to Minny... Eaton slow to get up after that double. Wincing a little bit.
  19. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 06:44 PM) Then what is Kendrys Morales? I need to understand. Worth a reliever who had the same surgery for the detached lat as Peavy, lol. And a large waste of money/resources by the Twins. Like Donald Sterling's g/f, basically, although from all accounts a decent human being at least.
  20. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 06:18 PM) Plenty of people (including me) would have said 'if he can simply keep hitting how he has for the past month and a half, he could be brought up when Dunn leaves.' Well he's obviously done way better than that. Even if he "cools off" back to his June level of hitting .300 with power he's worth the call up. I think he may be a more valuable baseball player than Viciedo right now and in 2015 and on. Being left-handed matters. A lot. And DeAza and Beckham and Flowers and Dunn since none of them figure into the future.
  21. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 06:25 PM) That was a nice K pitch out of Noesi. And Beckham just hit one hard. 2 days in a row he has hit a ball hard. But 1 for his last 23 nevertheless. BTW, the Tigers are nuts if they're going to use Soria in the 7th, Joba in the 8th and Nathan in the 9th. Unless they just use Soria like they used to utilize Zumaya. And DD wants to add 1-2 more pitchers to their pen. They are really desperate to win it all this year with Scherzer and Martinez.
  22. Noesi has a 4.5ish ERA on the season for the Sox as a starter. He's fine as a 5th, but won't fetch anything significant from another team yet. Just get a 2 starter and we're set with Rodon as no more than a projected 4 to start in 2015 or 2016. Easier said than done.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 06:12 PM) Yeah no GM is far more interesting than Jose Abreu. Yet despite that interesting presence (and one of the top 5-7 pitchers in baseball), we're still somehow trailing Houston and Miami in attendance. Bottom 5 in tv ratings, 28th in attendance. One would shudder to think how depressing this season would have been without Abreu and Rodon (now).
  24. Poor Twins. Chuck Knoblauch allegedly assaulted his ex-wife, so his induction into the Twins' Hall of Fame was cancelled on August 23rd. Traded Kendrys Morales after getting an Adam Dunn 2011 boost from his signing. DFA'ed Matt Guerrier. Mauer is terrible/hurting and one of the 5-10 worst contracts in baseball currently. Sano and Buxton are injured. Whatever happened to Terry "The Genius" Ryan?
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 05:54 PM) Far more irrelevant than the SD\Cubs tilt. The Padres are more interesting because they have no GM and yet seemingly are making trades everyday. Plus the Cubs fans have their Iowa team to flip back and forth to for a diversion. We have The Great Andy Wilkins Debate. Somehow, I'm sure the Cubs/Pads game will win the ratings battle. At least Robin Ventura has made it quite convenient by placing our three best hitters 1-3...so we can now tune out for the 4-9 hitters. Finally, Matt Guerrier was just DFA'ed by the Twins. Might as well bring him back to Chicago so his career can come full circle.
