2015 White Sox draft pick discussion
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 05:30 PM) Geez, we're only 3 weeks into the season and you're already writing off Trey? He more than held his own in Kanny last year for a 19 year old. And of course the irony is Barnum is spending his 3rd year in A ball and is trending downward after his hot start in the first week. Nobody said anything about writing him off. Sure, he's got potential, athletic/raw ability. With the premium on being able to put up 25-35 homer seasons offensively, and being left-handed...I just like Barnum more. And there's nothing wrong with Trey. M. ending up with a big league career like Brent Morel...it's far from expected that a draft pick from that round even makes it to the majors. You realize there's TWO levels to A ball, and technically 3 if you include rookie/short-season? For high school players, it's not unusual to take 3-4 years to get to AA when they're incredibly raw and unrefined coming into pro ball. In all likelihood, neither guy makes a significant impact. We'll see.

2015 White Sox draft pick discussion
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) I don't recall the TJ guys signing for that big of a discount last year, may not be remembering correctly though. courtesy of OZZIEBALL I hope they don't. I think it would require a significant overdraft in order to save the type of money you would need to make this strategy work. The only significant under slot signing in the first round last year outside the top 3 was the injured Kyle Freeland at #8 (~800k under slot). Even the injured Jeff Hoffman signed for slot at #9. Unless you have one of the top 3 or 4 selections or target an injured pitcher I'm just not sure how workable a strategy it is. Personally I'd rather they just go all in on the #8 pick and ensure they have at least one impact type talent entering the system. I'd rather have a 1st and a 4th round pick than two 2nd's, if that's the trade-off. Eric Fedde was the other one...or you could look at Lucas Giolito as well with the Nationals in previous years. Certainly it's likely to happen with Aiken. Can't imagine him waiting at least one more year and probably two to be back to anything close to 100%.

Sox/O's postponed again for 4/28.
The Inner Harbor and the aquarium are great....and then there's that ship (USS Constitution or Constellation?)...crab cakes/shrimp scampi, etc. Some top-flight restaurants. Cool city....I've been to a game at the Old Memorial Stadium but never to Camden Yards.

2015 Cubs Catch-All thread
http://www.csnchicago.com/cubs/mlb-power-r...bs-slide-top-10 Some local jack--s already has the Cubs at 8th in their MLB power rankings. Of course the White Sox are 19th. http://www.csnchicago.com/cubs/cubs-gettin...solutely-needed Russell with some big clutch hits so far but he's still striking out 50% of the time (ala Baez)...how's his defense at 2B so far? Trouble adjusting? DP chemistry with Castro?

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) Trey was probably rushed a bit. Still a pup. Gee, how many times have we said that over the last 10-15 years about a position prospect?

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...-154627173.html They also could have played (all those teams were on the road) at Norfolk, Bowie, Frederick or Delmarva. Certainly the first two options would have been possibilities stadium capacity-wise, and great ways to solidify the relationship with the Orioles' fans in those cities (make the best of a bad situation, right?) Wonder if that was ever given serious consideration? Doesn't sound like it.

At this point, I wouldn't be completely shocked if Barnum put it together and passed Trey. For some reason, he seems like he's going to end up close to Brent Morel statistically. Just a hunch. Hope I'm wrong.

John Danks
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 11:02 AM) I am waiting for him to suggest we trade Danks for Curtis Granderson. Or Chris Young. Or Jason Kipnis. Or Cliff Floyd.

Of course there will be a deluge of rain on May 28th. You can count on it.

John Danks
He (Bailey) hasn't had TWO TJ surgeries. You guys are all a part of that WSI groupthink. Trading for a guy who's out for over a year, will have had two TJ surgeries and is owed almost 90 million IS the right move. Let's get our facts straight. He had a problem with his flexor tendon (near his elbow) and had surgery last SEPT, which was expected to allow him to return in April. In 2010, he had some shoulder issues/discomfort, but no surgery at that time. Ptac surely will feel there's probably a connection between the flexor tendon repair and then having an elbow ligament go within the span of 6-7 months...but he's not a Kris Medlen or Daniel Hudson case either. And nobody is part of any groupthink. In order to get talent back, you've got to take a calculated risk sometimes. It won't happen anyway...just speculating on the type of return and the financials of any type of Danks move.

Sox/O's postponed again for 4/28.
HaloFanFromReno 2 minutes ago I am not a fan of any teams involved with these "postponments", however it is not fair to the opposing teams to have to use up resources due to losing a travel day or playing an unscheduled DH - this isn't a rainout or earthquake. These games could be played on a neutral field or the home field of the Orioles opponent. It is not fair to the rest of MLB teams to weaken an Orioles opponent because they had to use up a day off or pitchers which would domino effect these opponents' later games. Example: White Sox lose a travel day and use-up bullpen at a later date due to this - the White Sox then play the A's when the White Sox bull pen is used up and the A's win due to this. The other American League West division teams may lose a playoff spot by 1 game because the A's got an easy game against the White Sox! Flag

Sox/O's postponed again for 4/28.
"After consultation with Major League Baseball and state and local officials, tonight’s game between the Orioles and the White Sox at Oriole Park at Camden Yards has been postponed. "An announcement regarding the make-up date will be made as soon as possible. Fans are encouraged to keep their tickets and parking passes until more information is made available." www.baltimoresun.com

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) Weakening unions so that police management can fire people who they deem "bad cops" more easily won't change what criteria police management uses to judge who's a "bad cop." I can't imagine that if police management actually wanted to curb these "rough rides" or if the CPD wanted to shut down their torture warehouse that the union would be the ones standing in the way. More likely, management either openly or tacitly approves of these sorts of things up to a certain point in the chain of command and then maintains deliberate ignorance and plausible deniability above that. And then, when, for example prisons are privatized....the abuses gradually worsen because there's even less public accountability.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 09:25 AM) Stripping officers of their collective bargaining power won't change police culture and police management's views. It would only make them feel more threatened and "cornered," just like making the same threats (taking over, whether it's the state or Federal government) against under-performing "inner city/urban" schools usually has the same effect on their staff morale.

Sox/O's postponed again for 4/28.
The Nationals and Orioles hate each other. We already have hated Rizzo, for a long time, too. Part of it's the territorial rights issue, like the A's and Giants...with the Orioles feel the Nationals are encroaching on their natural territory. Another huge part of it is the fight about MASN...which is ongoing, and is at an impasse.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 09:17 AM) This was actually before they went to the mall. This was when they were showing the liquor stores, the cell phone store and the CVS being ransacked. Two different groups. The mall situation began at 3 p.m.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 09:18 AM) I wouldn't think it was. But what about the stuff that never makes it to IA? Where they 'talk' the person into not pressing the case or something? I am sure there are a lot of incidents that don't get reported. I also know that there are a lot of made up cases of violence against cops, which I am sure makes it difficulty for IA and supervisors. During all that Occupy stuff, there were emails going around telling people that if they were arrested to claim they were beat up and/or otherwise abused, even if they weren't. it happens. So your example of police abuse (and accusations against) only apply to "left-leaning" groups? What about Ruby Ridge and Waco? Well, of course, that was all Bill Clinton and Janet Reno's fault, right?

QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 09:15 AM) digressing from what is on hand.... me thinks. Someone was trying to directly link the "police culture" in Baltimore with African-American leadership and/or Democrats. If that's true, logically....then white administrations where white officers are committing crimes against minority populations (such as Hispanics/Mexicans in the Southwest) are even guiltier.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) That's a problem, and the best way to weed that out is City Hall forcing changes from the top down. Which again would be black democrats in a city like Baltimore. Like all the lovely jobs those white Republicans are doing in Texas, NM, Arizona and California policing the borders? http://news.yahoo.com/arizona-sheriff-resp...DQzXzEEc2VjA3Nj Like this jack---. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 09:13 AM) On CNN last night they had someone on who said the average age of the looters was 16 or 17. Were they really looting because they all had built up tensions, or where they just taking advantage of the situation? I think the majority of people destroying businesses and starting fires, and throwing rocks and bricks at cops and firefighters weren't present during the peaceful protests. Those were all the high schoolers near the mall responding to the online "purge" invitation/s. Nothing specifically to do with the police brutality situation at all.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 09:02 AM) A culture that for a while now has been led by blacks and democrats, the people who supposedly have Baltimore's best interests in mind. So if the major or city council was white, like in LA during the Rodney King and OJ Simpson debacles...then it would make it, what, worse? Who was leading the city during the Rampart investigations? You're telling me that the culture of the police force is set by the mayor and Democrats? REALLY? http://article.wn.com/view/2015/04/20/Majo...gns_After_Firs/ If that's your example, then Parma, Missouri, is an easy counter-example to cite. Should I keep going?

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 08:57 AM) Clearly it is the retention of bad cops. How do we get rid of bad cops? Suggestions? Here's a GREAT solution. Part II: Repeat offenders (Oct. 2014): City officials, who say some lawsuits against police are frivolous, add that they are improving the systems that track problem officers — especially those who are repeatedly the subject of lawsuits. And police leaders pledge that officers who have recently sustained complaints of egregious behavior will be bypassed whenever possible for promotions. Note it didn't say FIRED or SUSPENDED or even INVESTIGATED by IA.
