  1. They could always trade John Danks for Homer Bailey. The White Sox would assume Bailey's $81 remaining from 2016-2019 (Reds would pay 2020 buyout of $5 million or White Sox would pay $25 million for that season). In return, the Reds would take on Danks' contract through 2016 (essentially $26 million). The White Sox would be taking on $55 million in extra salary, paying Bailey roughly $20 million per season. So you could look at it as paying Bailey $13.75 million per year for four years....or they could use that $26 million in "new/created" money by dumping Danks to improve the club in 2015/16 cycle. (Of course the problem is that would make keeping Samardzija impossible....but that's probably true regardless.) 1. Sale 2. Quintana 3. Rodon 4. Noesi/Sox prospect OR use the Danks money for a veteran placeholder along the lines of a Haren/Vogelsong/Volquez/Liriano 5. Homer Bailey Then you'd still have this year's first rounder (likely another pitcher if not Happ or Tucker), Erik Johnson, Montas and Danish for starting pitching depth (not to mention the 2016 compensation pick...or they could end up trading Samardzija for another pitcher/catcher/3B/SS/OF). It's also POSSIBLE Montas and Danish are ready to start for the Sox in 2016...but I wouldn't necessarily count on that happening, either. Plus breaking in another rookie to go along with Rodon in his first full year and Bailey coming off surgery would necessitate adding one more starting pitcher. Finally, it's also another possibility Hector Noesi is still a part of the starting rotation in 2016, but I'm not counting on that, either.
  2. Bulls lucky Jabari Parker is out....there's that. Fortunate.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 08:50 PM) I would have never guessed that a few years after the trade that Iglesias would be a better hitter than Avi. If you look at all his minor league numbers, you'd come to conclusion that it would be amazing if he could put together a 625-650 OPS at the major league level.
  4. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles...0426-story.html In case you missed it from this past weekend, twitter comments from Orioles' VP John Angelos (Peter's brother). He (Angelos) said a greater concern of his was "the past four-decade period during which an American political elite have shipped middle class and working class jobs away from Baltimore and cities and towns around the US to 3rd-world dictatorships like China" which he said has sent "tens of millions of good hard working Americans into economic devastation" and "an ever-declining standard of living and suffering." "The innocent working families of all backgrounds whose lives and dreams have been cut short by excessive violence, surveillance and other abuses of the bill of rights by government pay the true price, and ultimate price, and one that far exceeds the importance of any kid's game played tonight, or ever, at Camden Yards," Angelos tweeted. Micki38120 Rank 0 Just how much of the Baltimore Orioles' gear and fan gear is produced in Baltimore, or the US for that matter? Change starts by cleaning up your own house first.
  5. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles...427-column.html Editorial on the cancellation of the game. Will decide tmrw at 9 am on the status of a possible game at 1 p.m. Other two options are Washington and playing the games back in Chicago.
  6. Yes, the White Sox (marketing department) brought that situation down upon their own heads...and couldn't police/control it effectively. Expecting the Camden Yards Andy Frain/rent a cops/security guards to act like the National Guard or even a SWAT unit isn't exactly the same situation.
  7. There's also a political consideration (in terms of the national perception of this situation) because Cummings right now would be the favorite for Barbara Mikulski's Senate seat... Back to regularly scheduled programming.
  8. Now getting word White Sox and O's could play at 1 pm EST Tuesday. They hope to make decision by 9 am EST Tuesday morning, per source. espn.com
  9. Hasn't this come up before where Cubs and/or White Sox games were played in Milwaukee...or vice-versa, Brewers games at Wrigley or Comiskey? Heck, we had a season or two where we played a limited number of "home games" in Milwaukee before the Brewers came into existence, right?
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 07:22 PM) It would seem to me playing in DC tomorrow isn't likely. Maybe they work that out during the day tomorrow and play two on Wednesday in DC--unless things calm down a lot. Hopefully if there's a single game to be made up, they'll do it on July 3rd in Chicago, and they'll be the home team for one of the games. Then you have to decide whether to do a split DH (1 pm and 7 pm) or just starting at 5 or 6 pm and playing two from that point. Wonder about the turnaround for staffing the stadium with less than 24 hours' notice? Probably would go with the second option, because they're not weekend/big revenue-producing games.
  11. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/9963194/ Here's an example from a G20 security situation...where the games had to be changed from TOR to Philly. Seems it's up to all of the clubs involved to work out a solution. In that case, it was Philly being the road team in their own park. They definitely have a series of economic calculations to take into consideration (security, vendors, ticket takers, gameday personnel, etc.)
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 07:15 PM) Kluber with another bad start. With the 2nd wildcard, it's hard to count teams out after April. But they're not winning the AL Central. His run support has been in the mid 1's, but he hasn't pitched that well, either. Tonight was probably his worst, velocity/stuff seems to be down from last year. Maybe he wasn't prepared physically for the big increase in innings pitched.
  13. Twitter baltimoresun @baltimoresun City-wide curfew for 10 p.m. - 5 a.m. begins tomorrow; 27 people arrested today; 15 officers injured in the riots. bsun.md/live-blog When it says "begins tmrw," does that mean at 12:01 a.m. TONIGHT or tomorrow night starting at 10 p.m.?
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 06:47 PM) am i wrong in thinking, that Mitchell should be in that group??? Yes, but nobody really cares about him or Walker at this point...so not worth mentioning, that point's been driven into the ground by now.
  15. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles...ory.html#page=1 Seems they're already making plans to move the games to Washington/Nationals' Park. Good for the White Sox, then, skip Noesi and a significantly decreased homefield advantage.

  17. Bryant's been an RBI machine, 9 in 35+ AB's. Of course no homers yet, but still has very reasonable BB/K ratio.
  18. Probably regretting the Haren move at this point. Josh Beckett out of retirement?
  19. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 06:05 PM) " we also gave those who wish to destroy the space to do that as well".......Rioting sanctioned by the mayor of Baltimore...nicely done Mayor....nicely done.... Maybe they can bring back THE WIRE again...in light of all this. Similar to the idea in that series of legalized drug-dealing zones...moving that activity away from children/schools. I guess it's one thing to give people the right to protest and vent their frustrations...it's quite another to deliberately not protect private property and businesses. Can the insurance companies sue the city as a result? I'm sure they will.

  21. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/angels-simply...-152034715.html The statistic of him paying Hamilton $118 million compared to the price of acquiring the franchise itself a decade or so ago (under $200 million)...pretty incredible. Disney missed out on a huge profit there had they held on longer.
  22. This is going to be a real question from my Chinese parents this week...as they decide on colleges/universities. Is America really safe? Wouldn't Canada, England or Australia be better for my child? Chinese parents always hear in the media how dangerous Los Angeles is...for example, two Chinese students were murdered in their car near the USC campus a couple of years ago....and you had the totally weird "drowning/suicide" of a Chinese student in the water tank at the top of that famous/infamous motel (along with the video of her behaving strangely in the elevator). Irony, also, that one of my seniors is going to VA TECH.
  23. Chicago also doesn't have at the same state income tax advantage TEX does... So does Josh Hamilton (instead of Melky Cabrera) and us paying him let's say $17.5-32.5 million over the next 3 years and DUMPING Danks to the Angels (who don't really need him, they already had Joe Saunders and suffered with him) and going with Rodon/Johnson/Beck/Penny put us in a better position? Not so sure. MAYBE. But it's not the type of risk JR will typically take on. (Of course, so was Melky with his PEDs history). If they used that "new money" created by the savings to add one more veteran starter (and didn't sign Bonifacio) just to get us through this season, probably.
  24. Why does it seem we always tend to have the streakiest of streaky hitters in our minor league system? Too many "all or nothing" players and not enough Ravelos who are more consistent and patient hitters with a higher OBP/contact rate.
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 05:40 PM) If you wanted to get rid of Danks, we should have traded him to the Angels for Josh Hamilton and gobs of money. Seems Texas might be the ONLY place where Hamilton has the support system in place to succeed...not sure a city like Chicago would be the best landing site. It would be interesting to see between Reinsdorf, Hahn and KW how much, if any, interest there was over the off-season. Probably not very much (obviously) after Melky Cabrera/LaRoche signed....but was it Plan B, C, D or not even a consideration?
