  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 07:51 PM) His numbers have declined for each of the last 3 seasons. I trust we've left the approach of adding declining veterans in the rear view mirror. You mean like Hermanson, Vizcaino, Pods, Dye, AJ and El Duque?
  2. Abreu with the rookie mistake of not making sure the ball in front of you gets through first. Now, what are the odds we won't need that 3 run cushion? Conor a triple short of the cycle. Let's hope he doesn't get another shot at it in extra innings. Or maybe we'll take it only if it drives in the winning run, haha.
  3. Dunn now 1 for 11 with 6 K's against Miller. Why didn't we use Konerko...at least turn their bullpen over??? Dunn had zero chance there.
  4. Good recovery from Ronald to not give up the run there. Much more comfortable in the 7th and 8th. Surkamp and Putnam were warming, so the 9th must be Petricka. Even though he's not the official closer now.
  5. Tanaka is coming back down to earth. There's two schools of thought. Either he's getting tired/not used to the schedule and weather OR the book's getting out to lay off the splitter and force him to use other pitches. With him seeing teams for the 2nd and 3rd time (especially in the AL East), it will be interesting to see where he ends the year.
  6. Beckham 0 for his last 21. I think 2 for his last 28 Surkamp warming. Not sure for who/m. Ortiz with two loud 410 feet outs to the Triangle. Belisario not fooling anyone.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:38 PM) Yeah, let's trade for a 30 year old outfielder with an OPS under 700, because one De Aza isn't enough. The problem is if you trade for guys like Seth Smith or Melky Cabrera, you're buying on the high. That's never been the Sox way of going business....with the exception of Jeff Keppinger, and we all know how well that one worked out. It's like the stock market. Is Allen Craig a sub 700 OPS guy or the one whose MLB average is 801 with 2.2/2.2/2.3 WAR seasons consecutively? Which is the trend? Which is the outlier?
  8. Flowers 0 for his last 17. Did avoid his 100th K. There's that.
  9. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 07:15 PM) I say Nieto starts 3-4 games a week and Flowers 2-3 for a few weeks then if Nieto is hitting under .200 bring up Phegley and Nieto the back up. There is no way Nieto hits under .100 in his next 100 AB's Don't be so sure. He was in High A last season at this time.
  10. All the reports are that Kevan Smith is a work in progress defensively. The last thing we want to do is derail his current offensive confidence and force him up to AAA or the majors when nobody thinks he's close to ready. Either they give Phegley another shot or find someone to come back in return for Danks/DeAza/Ramirez/Beckham/Dunn/Belisario/Putnam.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 07:13 PM) Nice Robin! Now watch Belisario get blown up. Well, one thing's for sure, NOBODY can be arguing at this point that Danks deserves to stay in this game. Nobody.
  12. Not very many soft outs tonight for Danks. 8 baserunners stranded. Lucky to be in a position to have the lead/win. Belisario coming in to face Pedroia.
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 07:04 PM) Lol stop it. Beck doesn't suck. He still has a 3.5 ERA in AA. First you say you want Allen Craig now you say Angel Sanchez is the 2nd most exciting pitching prospect in the minors currently after Sox got him a week ago. Come on man. And that 3.5 ERA in AA is like Danks' at the major league level. You have to look beyond the numbers. I don't think I've seen anyone here even assert he should be getting starts for the major league team when before the last Carroll start we might have had the worst 5th starter numbers in the AL.
  14. I didn't say that I wanted Allen Craig. Just that it's an idea to be considered. If he was left-handed, then it would be more exciting. As it is, it's a MEH type of move, but could pay off dividends in the future as Craig has a solid history of 800 OPS hitting on championship teams. The biggest problem is we don't have anyone the Cardinals would really want. They already have Peralta. Unless they're going to move Peralta to 3B and Carpenter back to 2B, or play Alexei at 2B, which would be even crazier.
  15. Tigers were down 5-0 in the first. Now up 10-5 and counting. Will turn into an easy Verlander victory.
  16. This line-up is so weird. Our coldest hitter still hitting 2nd. Tyler still playing everyday. Our hottest hitter, Viciedo, hitting 7th.
  17. With Montas, Hawkins and Anderson all out....our minor league watch list is pretty limited. Horrid Johnson starts, Jared Mitchell recriminations, Trey M., May and Barnum in Winston-Salem, Tyler Danish and then Sanchez/Semien/Saladino/Davidson in Charlotte. Angel Sanchez is the 2nd most exciting pitcher at the moment, after Tyler. Beck sucks.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:57 PM) Hard to tell, but could De Aza have caught Napoli's double? I couldn't tell where it hit off the monster. Don't think so. Eaton had the worse misplay that inning, but it was kind of made academic by Pedroia's double.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:54 PM) BTW, why in the hell is Flowers starting with Danks on the mound? Even if he was playing decently, it seems like they've played Flowers way too often this year. Because the best Hahn could come up with was a catcher who COULD be starting in Birmingham.
  20. 90 pitches already. Belisario up. White Sox had that golden opportunity to blow the game wide open early and Viciedo, DeAza and Flowers couldn't get it done. Knew that was going to come back to bite them somehow at Fenway. Danks throwing more change-ups than fastballs, seemingly.
  21. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:49 PM) Danks trying to blow this game... Boston was the World Series winner last year. As bad as things have gotten, they still have a lot of pride...and even the belief they can get back into the race this year, albeit a faint belief.
  22. Bogaerts 4/6 with 2 walks career-wise against Danks. So much for the lead. Need to trade him ASAP. There's just no way he's going to be anything but a .500ish 4th starter. That's not worth the money they are paying him, even in modern baseball economics. The only out this inning was hit 410 feet.
  23. This inning falling apart pretty quickly.
  24. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/brazil-s-wors...-222748085.html Good story that kind of captures the disaster from a national/global perspective. Brazil will take a long time to recover from this one. The Olympics will help, but the anti-politicians/corruption/spending waste mood is palpable.
  25. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:36 PM) I thought this year would be a bit of a cleanse with some new faces but my sunny outlook is being pissed on by the same old Beckham and Flowers. I look forward to never seeing either as a starting player on the Sox after this season. Flowers can stay around as a backup catcher if he wants, Beckham can just go away. More like an enema.
