Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 07:08 PM) Or would Bradley added on to a Middlebrooks make Middlebrooks more attractive to those who don't want him? You don't trade Middlebrooks at his lowest value unless you find a team who desperately believes he's their long-term answer at 3B. -

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 07:05 PM) Ben Badler @BenBadler 15s In Triple-A, the Red Sox just pinch-hit for Jackie Bradley in the sixth inning. #Hugs? Expand Has to be Cliff Lee if anything right? How the hell can they talk about Cliff Lee with THAT CONTRACT bringing back guys like Bradley and Bogaerts and yet we're trading Peavy and sending millions the other way???? -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:08 PM) I'd prefer to deal with St Louis. Sox were too tight with Az and too many deals turned out unfavorable for us. So now Quentin for Chris Carter was bad because of Carter's 2013 season for HOU? In other news, Pujols is out for the season with plantar fasciitis. Talk about albatross contracts. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:56 PM) Not if Swisher was caught in rundown . I really don't think it was played poorly . So then more teams would try to do the same thing...getting runners caught between 1st and 2nd while the runner at 3B scores the final run of the inning before the rundown's completed. That's also a big gamble to take with the offense turning it on against a rookie in his debut on the ropes.....that you run yourself out of an inning when you're just as likely to knock in the go ahead run/s with the next batter. That said, with how terrible the White Sox have been executing rundowns properly this year, yeah, better just to let runners cruise into second base.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:49 PM) Ask Ramirez ? He cut it off by third. So at least it's not Viciedo's fault so you can make up your mind later since now you seem to be switching the blame to Alexei . Well, since the internet isn't so great here on the slopes of Kilimanjaro here in Tanzania, I was simply going by the Indians' announcers' call. Will have to wait until I can get a good enough stream to watch the mlb.com condensed game.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:46 PM) They spent several minutes talking about how a throw to second would have allowed Bourn to score. The entire defense set up to have throw cut to home because Bourn could have given it a go. If Michael Bourn is so fast that Alexei Ramirez, who has one of the best arms of any SS in baseball, can't set up short LF and either cut off the ball and throw to 2nd (he would have had the 3rd out there before Bourne would have been able to score, anyway) or let it go through, they might as well just give up trying to play baseball this season. Or the White Sox should sign all track stars like Jerry Owens, Jared Mitchell, Pods or Anderson Gomes to scare the bejesus out of opposing teams' defenses.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:42 PM) It was a hit and run , Bourne was making it to 3rd easily. Not sure why the throw went there. Maybe thats where they wanted it but Viciedo was not trying to get the runner. Why would Ramirez not be lined up to cut the throw and go to 2nd with the play? They had no shot at the runner going home. Throwing to 3B makes even LESS sense with Bourn (as you say) going there on a hit and run. Konerko's first infield single in years, lol.

Royals finally back to .500 mark. Wonder if they'll still trade Santana, play it out or actually attempt to add pieces like Rios/Beckham?
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:36 PM) They were calling for it to third to prevent the run scoring. What the hell are you talking about? The trail runner on the previous hit should have been held at 1st. Viciedo tried to get the runner at 3rd and once again missed the cutoff man with his throw. How would foolishly trying to cut down the runner there and allowing the trail runner to come into 2nd unimpeded prevent the run scoring, pray tell?

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:34 PM) Rienzo has had unbelievably bad luck today Does Hirschbeck have any ties we don't know about to the Indians, lol?
-
Another runner advancing to 2nd base that shouldn't have been there due to Viciedo. Jesus, he needs to be either a 1B/DH or traded to another organization. That's two bad plays in consecutive games when he was called out for the exact same thing by Ventura in the game story last night. Just no excuse for that. He might love to show off his arm in left, but he's so often been irresponsible with his lack of fundamental defensive play (not that we haven't seen it from Rios and DeAza, either, it's endemic).

Shades of Miguel Ascencio with the Royals in his rookie year against us. More bad White Sox defense, lol. Seems like Andre was spiked and wasn't aware of the sitaution as he got back to his feet and/or Dunn wasn't communicating with him about making the throw home. Bourn stepped directly on his right ankle, pretty much, crossing the bag to beat the relay throw. Chisenhall never stopped running the whole time. Only the White Sox of 2013 could so consistently give up 3 runs with only one hit in the inning against their pitcher.
-
Maybe it's secretly a Rienzo showcase to add him in as a deal sweetener, lol? Strikes out the side in the 4th. Wonder how many Brazilian (usually soccer-centric) sports bars are showing this one on the satellite feed? New and interesting territory for MLB, first ever start for a Brazilian-born pitcher.

Remember when Kazmir (NYM) for Victor Zambrano was THE trade that set the stage for the Rays' resurgence? That particular trade has scared young GM's for years from giving away elite/young/LH starting pitching prospects for veterans.

Pirates take over 1st place from the Cards in 11. 2 in a row. Possible game extending DP ball diverted into the OF by the reliever, who was mightily struggling with control.

Semien setting up the Beckham to Royals trade nicely, lol.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 05:48 PM) Peavy, Ramirez, AND 20 million? Lol, no. I'm psyched that he may even be an option, but lets be serious, his numbers are not nearly good enough to warrant that type of expenditure from the Sox. The winning number is something like $5-7.5 million. Probably closer to $5, if Hahn's really successful. The Pirates ALSO have that $25 million coming in the offseason. They're desperate to make the playoffs, and they'll have a pretty big influx of money from new season ticket buyers and the playoffs if they do manage to make it. Their "opportunity cost" to pass on a move that improves their chances of making it dramatically just might be too much to pass up on a move involving the logic of Rios/Peavy/Ramirez (pick 2/3). Heck, they started Presley and Tabata (0 for 12 streak) at the corners yesterday. Marte is in a bad slump, as well. -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:42 PM) I think most everyone consider Q better than a solid number 3 at this point. Santiago I would say has better potential than that. As for now I wouldn't label him as an innings eater since the one thing preventing him from the top of the rotation is his lack of ability to eat innings. And yet he's been consistently throwing 94, 95 and even touching 96 in recent outings after pitch #75.
-
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:41 PM) What does that translate to. I see rios and finalize lol close to finalizing the trade between those teams (cambio, change or interchange or exchange)
-
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:36 PM) I think our definitions of #1's and #2's are different. I would venture a guess that just about any scout you ask would consider Q is a solid #3 and Santiago an innings-eater back of the rotation type of guy. Considering how we acquired those guys, that is unbelievably good When Santiago's K/9 ratio puts him in the Top 10 of all MLB for starters? If the White Sox had five cloned Hector Santiagos in their rotation, putting up identical numbers, they wouldn't be in last place.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:37 PM) Uh, you are aware that the NL Central is arguably the strongest division currently, and that the AL Central is arguably the weakest, right? Then how do you explain Francisco Liriano being the ace of the 2nd best team in MLB (by 1/2 game)?
-
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:28 PM) They still aren't Then neither is Peavy. Because I would take his potential, growing stamina/endurance and multiple out pitch arsenal over Jake Peavy any day of the week, if it was finding a starting pitcher to build the rotation around (after Sale) in 2015/16. Put Quintana and Santiago in the NL West or NL Central and they'd nearly be Cy Young candidates.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:25 PM) Man oh man why is going on, the S**t that could go down the next two days makes me giddy. But a lot of this coming out has to be bs. But makes me excited all the same. LOL at Dayton Moore. Get rid of the 2nd best young RF in the game in Myers, end up stuck with Francouer and then have to take on someone else's headcase in Rios. Not that Alex is in Jose Guillen's neighborhood, but he's not the first person I would want on my team, either. You just have a feeling, in the end, the Sox would be better off without him, clubhouse/chemistry-wise. Same with Adam Dunn, who made a really lackadaisical play on the error by Conor which probably never would have happened if he (Dunn) were playing on a 1st place team...sadly.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:24 PM) I'm not high on Adams personally. I rather have Wong as far as position players and want Martinez more than anyone. I just get a feeling a rotation of Sale and Martinez as your 1 & 2 for years to come. That's a start of something special. I like the idea of Wong at 2B and Beckham going back to his natural SS position. Would love to get a nice young 3B in a trade some how Why would the Cardinals be willing to give up Martinez?
-
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:22 PM) I agree with you, just not sold on Adams being a consistent middle of the order bat. His stats have been pretty average since his insane April. Pitching depth is always needed/valuable. More of a priority in my opinion. Successful platoon players in the NL Central are a bit scary. Keep reminding myself Liriano is the ace of the 2nd best team in baseball and he could barely hold his spot in our rotation down the stretch in 2012.
