QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 10:26 PM) Mark McGwire is a BAD man haha. He was striking fear into some of those guys out there. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?g...&mode=video The whole 7 minute 20 second sequence. And Greinke's slide was hilarious to take out Gregorious. At least Mattingly was smart enough to take him out of the game before he pitched the next half inning. http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/mlb...0,3400656.story I didn't see the punch Puig took at Eric Hinske. You can see Ward and Howell at the camera well, Bellisario going crazy (next to Uribe), Mattlingly pushing Alan Trammell down to the ground. Lucky that McGwire, Baylor, Gibson and Matt Williams didn't have an all-out brawl, those are some big dudes.

"We kept shooting ourselves in the foot," manager Robin Ventura said. It has been four weeks since Ventura had a 50-minute workout five hours before a game to address the shoddy defense. The Sox were charged with three errors but also committed three baserunning mistakes that stunted rallies. "It has been worse that than," Ventura said of the latest follies. "We'll address it." With 99 games left in the season, the Sox (28-35) at least would have hoped to shore up defensive deficiencies by now. Shortstop Alexei Ramirez's error and Tyler Flowers' passed ball led to two runs in the top of the second, and Flowers allowed Maicer Izturis to jar a ball loose from him for an insurance run to score in the 10th. Flowers' drop occurred shortly after reliever Ramon Troncoso hurled a wild pitch that scored the go-ahead run. Flowers said he didn't get a good read on the relay throw from Ramirez but took responsibility for the miscue. But there were other guilty parties. Dayan Viciedo was thrown out easily while trying to move to second on an errant pitch by Jays starter Chien-Ming Wang in the second. Alejandro De Aza was picked off first base to end the third. And Gordon Beckham was thrown out trying to advance from first to third on Flowers' hit after the Sox had scored four times in fourth that included Conor Gillaspie's three-run homer to snap an 0-for-21 slump. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports SIGH. Flowers really seems to have a lot of excuses this season for all of his mistakes and physical problems adjusting to catching everyday. The tiebreaking run scored on a wild pitch, and the second was unearned when catcher Tyler Flowers dropped a throw from left fielder Alejandro De Aza. ‘‘I never had it,’’ Flowers said. ‘‘It was a tweener hop. The runner sped up, and I never had a grip on it.’’ Troncoso was making only his second appearance after being recalled last week. He was the fourth reliever to follow Quintana. Nate Jones and Matt Thornton kept the Blue Jays scoreless. ‘‘Bautista is one of the best home-run hitters in the game,’’ said Thornton, who stopped a scoring threat in the eighth with two on and no outs. ‘‘I think it’s just a matter of winning a few games in a row and not letting this one get us down. We’re going to lose games, but it’s a matter of stringing a bunch of wins together in between those losses.’’ www.suntimes.com/sports (Ginetti)

Greinke drilled by Kennedy, up around the head. (and not behind the back) This time, there was a fight. Dodgers trying to keep Puig out of it. If Greinke gets hurt again...guys from the DL out on the field, like Hanley Ramirez. McGwire and Gibson going after it, Matt Williams trying to intervene. Mattingly and Don Baylor involved, screaming at each other. Peter Moylan. Puig is trying to get back in and Luis Cruz is holding him back. Alan Trammel in there, too. Teams are finally being separated by the umpires.
-
And, of course, Greinke's right in the middle of the revenge, despite getting injured in a similar situation by Quentin. Not an actual fight....not yet. Gibson's barking, but it's more out of obligation. "Don Drysdale says, you hit one of my guys, I'll hit two of yours." Lots of trash talking, both sides have been warned. Umpires knew it was coming and allowed the message to be sent.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:51 PM) What game? I don't remember exactly, but he has at least 4, maybe 5 or 6 now. It's 4. Flowers with 7 passed balls after tonight.
-
Puig hit in the nose by a pitch by Ian Kennedy... Almost a devastating blow. There's going to be payback for this, either tonight or tmrw. On the basepaths, by a Dodgers' pitcher, it's on. And Ethier strikes back against the DBacks with a homer to tie it 2-2 (scoring Puig as well), with the Dodgers now fully awakened. Ethier 5 homers and 17 RBI's only.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:41 PM) He gives up a ton of past balls. Or he has given up a disproportionate number of passed balls in the past.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:35 PM) Fair enough, but I'd have rather seen, gulp, Mr. Light-Me-Up himself, Matt Thornton over a guy I've never heard of. Greg, they'd already used him earlier. He almost blew the game himself, but miraculously got out of it...and preserved the lead.
-
I was at that game, too. This was worse, by far...not heartbreaking, because we haven't really legitimately been in the race for weeks. More like depressing, simply because, like Parent and Nossek have noticed...the players are too nice, or they're not accountable or they're simply waiting for something bad to happen, expecting it. And with so many mistakes tonight, at least 12-13 easily identifiable ones, it wasn't a surprise to anyone when Reed gave up that homer with 2 strikes to Bautista, even if he was 19/20 in save conversions entering tonight. It wasn't a surprise when Troncoso took the loss...or when Flowers dropped the ball tagging out the runner. That inning would have turned out entirely differently had Alexei just held on to the ball and got the out at 2nd. From that point on...you knew what would happen. This is why I watched the 2005 World Series video (thanks, Michael Clarke Duncan, you will be missed) for the first time in 8 years, since it was given to me that Christmas. Just to remember what it was like at that time....especially the Crede homer off Riske, I was living in Colombia then and I remember going crazy and nobody knew in my girlfriend's apartment why I was so excited and jumping up and down.

Loved the Comcast camera focusing in on Ramirez going down into the tunnel...
-
Dunn has to be a chance to be a hero here, at least. That's all you can ask for.
-
If Reinsdorf was still holding out hope to salvage this season, it has officially ended tonight. And there were 20,700 witnesses who will remember this game for a long time.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:15 PM) Oh well. Even Jake is speechless. What can be said? I'm sure Ventura will have his typical post-game interview. Or he just loses in completely and goes KW on the buffet table spread.
-
HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!! Mistake #13 on the night. Incredible. Seriously, the 2005 team didn't make half this many mistakes in a month of play. THIS IS HARD TO WATCH. Harrelson's going to cry, I think.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:11 PM) On that one, you could tell Tyler wasn't comfortable with how Troncoso's pitches break. He thought it was going to break much further away from him than it actually did. You should write a yahoo sports article defending Flowers and see how many 100's of responses you get ripping on him or you arguing on his behalf. Or maybe just nobody will respond, and there will be complete apathy or "Tyler who?"
-
It's past fun bad. It's ISHTAR/WATERWORLD/PLANET EARTH bad. 12 mistakes on the night. Harrelson stating the obvious, this is a game that we certainly deserved to lose, no doubt about it.
-
Advanced the runner to 3rd. Well, at least it didn't go out...at first glance, was expecting it to be a homer.
-
Three mistakes for Alexei Ramirez on the night. The only thing that would make this inning perfect would be for the White Sox to get out of it somehow and this game to go 18-20 innings. At least we would get to see Casper Wells pitch for the first time.
-
Another mistake defensively. Ramirez has to catch that ball and get the tag on him. BIG PROBLEMS, lol. Harrelson's really funny tonight...expecting the long delay with the lights after the game already should have been over.
-
Harrelson already resigned to the loss, lol. Leadoff man aboard. At least it wasn't "there's the dreaded lead-off walk" for a change. Lind one of the hottest hitters in baseball.
-
Just for fun, we'll call it mistake #10, Ventura not pinch-hitting for Gillaspie against a LHP. That's arguable, if they had another RH reliever up in the pen that wasn't a good match-up for Keppinger, OR Ventura could argue that Gillaspie's giving him the better defense. It's not like Keppinger, Dunn and DeAza haven't been our best hitters recently. (Although Gillaspie, in fairness, had the key hit of the game until that Bautista/Reed at-bat, but was also 0 for June almost).
-
"That didn't take long." Harrelson quieter now with the soft three hopper from Beckham to 2B.
-
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 08:54 PM) How come Dick Allen never posts when the Sox give up a late lead? Haha. He'll probably try to start an argument that we're cheering for a loss or why are we subjecting ourselves to this or why do you watch the games if they don't bring you happiness? Baseball Maxim 108: Giving Up 9 outs in a game, you don't win very often, as well as not scoring in a situation with bases loaded and no outs. Troncoso next man in. Hilarious. Ventura might just go home tonight and not come back.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 08:52 PM) I can understand being afraid to triple him up with a fastball, but I sure as hell am not throwing a slider anywhere near the zone (probably not throwing a fastball in the zone there, either) Well, they did try the slider on the 3rd pitch, it was just 5-6 inches off the plate and he didn't bite. When those sliders flatten out and aren't getting that sharp, downward plane...watch out below if you're in the bleachers.

The look on that Hispanic woman's face was priceless. "I have to stay here for another 1 1/2 hours? WHAT?"
