  1. Right now, he's on a pace for SEVENTY errors. That's ridiculous. I don't care if it's the worst manicured infield in the Carolina League with the most inept home scorekeeper. And wasn't Viciedo basically benched/kicked off the national team one of those years in Cuba...at 17 or 18? It's not like he had a tremendous amount of experience before age 18-19 playing 3B. And I quote, 'He was an outfielder before,' manager Ozzie Guillen said. 'This kid was in right field in Cuba and he never played third base; he told me that. He told (bench coach) Joey (Cora) that last year."
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2014 -> 07:53 AM) There is some real silly in this thread. 1. People want to move Tim Anderson off shortstop right now? You can't be serious. He's been in pro ball less than a year and he was KNOWN coming to be UNUSUALLY raw. Not just JuCo raw mind you, but, didn't focus on baseball until has last year in college. He's all tools and very little skills. The idea of abandoning ship on him now is just ridiculous. 2. While W-L numbers for minor league affiliates may perhaps give some indications on the very ends - and the Sox system is at the bad end now - even that is very, very limited in value. You don't even have the rookie affiliates playing yet, or DSL, or guys injured, or more than 1.5 months of play. Not to mention every org has some clubs loaded up with career minor leaguers. Don't read into this. How much do you want to bet they don't/won't allow him to get over 50 errors at SS? When was the last time the White Sox did that with any prospect in the minors? Viciedo was equally raw and how much time did it take before they moved him off 3B? As long as they believe the defensive side won't have a negative impact on his offensive game...they'll be patient, but only to a point. Anderson's biggest potential value comes with his speed and bat...on the offensive side, just like Hawkins.
  3. Just glad he didn't blow out one of his knees with that jump down from the stage.
  4. The radar gun at Kauffman Stadium befuddled Royals manager Ned Yost. In the third inning of a 9-2 loss to the Houston Astros, the scoreboard flashed velocity readings in the lower 90s, far too low for 22-year-old starter Yordano Ventura. Inside the dugout, Yost turned to pitching coach Dave Eiland. “What are those?” Yost said. “Are those change-ups? Two-seamers?” The answer was far more harrowing. Ventura could not generate his trademark life on his fastball. His right elbow felt “uncomfortable, not natural, (with) a little bit of pain,” he said afterward, with enough discomfort for him to leave the game. The team diagnosed discomfort on the lateral, or outer, side of his elbow. The inside part of the joint houses the ulnar collateral ligament, the one involved in Tommy John surgery. The team’s training staff assured Yost there was no damage to that precious piece of fibrous tissue. “I’m not concerned it’s a ligament injury,” Yost said. Ventura will still undergo an MRI on Tuesday afternoon. The fear coursed through his teammates. Like the rest of the industry, they’ve witnessed a rash of arm injuries this season, an epidemic that has claimed reliever Luke Hochevar and three dozen others. “It isn’t a relief until we hear exactly what’s going on,” first baseman Eric Hosmer said. Like Yost, Hosmer noticed the light radar gun readings in the third inning. His confusion turned to horror as he saw Ventura depart. The sight caused him to swear, a sensible reaction given Ventura’s importance to this club. Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/2014/05/26/50480...l#storylink=cpy

  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 27, 2014 -> 05:27 AM) That was for your bet. Before that you said .210-.215. Even.240 is below his career numbers. What did you bet anyway? That if he was hitting above .240 at the end of the season, I wouldn't mention Puig again. As for you, if you were willing to accept (which I don't think you really did), if I won...you couldn't mention Don Cooper again. I guess that's not entirely fair as Cooper constitutes approximately 30-40% of your offseason posts, whereas Puig's closer to 5-10% these days for me, at most. Then again, your guy has that stratospheric batting average now, so the odds are in your favor for the moment.
  7. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 27, 2014 -> 12:58 AM) Soooo where is Bobby Jenks again? http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...king-a-comeback
  8. Here we have another "bellweather" game, Memorial Day...national holiday, etc. Attendance=17,075 LAA at Seattle=22,710 don't know why, but a game was scheduled AT TORONTO for a traditional American holiday=15,616 All other games (12) played on Memorial Day around the majors=AVG of 37,502 KC and the Twins both over 30,000
  9. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ May 26, 2014 -> 10:09 PM) I want to see Putnam as closer Not after his last two outings.
  10. http://www.kansascity.com/2014/05/26/50480...ves-royals.html Story on Ventura's start. The official diagnosis from the club was “lateral elbow discomfort,” on the outer side of his right arm. He will undergo an MRI on Tuesday. The pain did not manifest on the medial side of his elbow, which includes the ulnar collateral ligament, the one involved in Tommy John surgery. The team listed Ventura as “day-to-day,” a categorization fans can only hope is more than a euphemism. Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/2014/05/26/50480...l#storylink=cpy
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 26, 2014 -> 09:11 PM) I don't really care but a MLB marketing department should know better than that. If you listen to any radio broadcast, Farmer ALWAYS goes above-and-beyond to thank servicemen and women, maybe TOO much, if that's possible. He was telling the story about going to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington and witnessing the changing of the guard, etc. Not to mention God, Bless America, National Anthem performed by member of the armed forces, etc. The marketing angle was for it to be a "family outing/picnic/BBQ," obviously. My father was in the military and I would never begin to take offense at that.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 26, 2014 -> 08:16 PM) Yordano Ventura left his start tonight with "lateral elbow discomfort", MRI scheduled for tomorrow. A serious injury to him would be a huge blow to the Royals. twitter.com/JeffPassan/sta… RT @JeremyJagoda: @you said lateral discomfort though. That would be his LCL or common extensor tendon or a muscle.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ May 26, 2014 -> 08:42 PM) https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/470957604802277376 The Sox actually apologized over this. People need to lighten the f*** up. What happened? Sorry, twitter/youtube/fb are blocked in China.
  14. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 26, 2014 -> 08:41 PM) Jacob Morris went 4-5 with 4 doubles Hawkins' K numbers are escalating alarmingly, though. 17 K's in last 35 AB's. Almost down to an 800 OPS after being around 900 for most of the first six weeks.
  15. QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ May 26, 2014 -> 06:14 PM) He's a good baseball player, too. At first I thought it was actor Eric Bana.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ May 26, 2014 -> 08:00 PM) We act like a guy who sits low 90s and reaches back regularly for 95-96 while getting a lot of swing and misses with a slider is bad from a LH starter while we all watch Chris Sale in awe Not bad at all, that's Quintana, or Johan Santana, or Liriano, etc. The problem is that his fastball isn't his primary out pitch, it's his slider. From all reports, his FB is a good pitch, but not off the scouts' charts....rather pedestrian, in the same way that Hector Santiago's FB is, even in the mid 90's. Sale has the advantage of his leverage/height/arm angles and deception.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) I say option D, which is acquiring another corner outfielder. Doesn't have to even be someone that currently starts. All I know is that Garcia and Danks aren't logical replacements. The problem is that we don't have replacements (right now) for Ramirez, Beckham, Gillaspie, Viciedo, Belisario, Putnam, etc. I sincerely doubt Hahn will trade any core pieces until at least the beginning of July...and he'll probably wait it out until the deadline. With attendance, we're not going to have a lot of leeway to take on a significant amount of additional payroll, but we might be able to identify another starting pitcher at that time who makes sense for the long and short-term. Agreed that L.Garcia and Danks aren't logical pieces of the OF future, either.
  18. Play DeAza for another 30 days, letting Sierra get his at-bats against lefties. If Alejandro's not hitting at least .225, then there's a decision to make...however, simply to DFA him won't solve their outfield issues like waving a magic wand. If they really want to get creative, they can put Davidson or Micah Johnson in LF, but that's not a recommended approach at this point in their development.
  19. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 26, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) IMHO Aiken and Kolek seem to have more upside. According to BA and MLB, Aiken seems to have more polish and upside than Rodon, and Kolek is the hardest thrower/pitcher than Rodon. Regardless that Rodon has Scott Boras as his agent. Kolek is consistently 95-100. Rodon was down in the low 90's for most of his recent collegiate season, and tops out around 95-96 typically. It's his slider which gets outs, not blowing away hitters with fastball after fastball like Yordano Ventura.
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 26, 2014 -> 04:16 PM) Let's make EVERY thread about attendance! Sorry, it's hard to keep track of everything when it's 5:00 a.m. in the morning, you're half asleep and going back and drifting back and forth between half sleeping and consciousness.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) .310/.348/.429 That is his slash line after about 250 plate appearances last year and you didn't think he could hit better than .215 this year. I remember saying .240.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 26, 2014 -> 02:33 PM) No squeeze here, Robin. I bet Sierra's worse than most of the young Sox hitters at bunting. Not his game.
  23. Ventura might let Quintana start the 7th, go after Gomes and Chisenhall and the 9th place hitter. If Gomes reaches, then for the 100th time see if Downs can record an out and do his job for once. Petricka's in...
  24. Ramirez really making a conscious effort there to hit it the opposite way...last year, he would just go up there without a plan at all.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2014 -> 02:19 PM) .178/.270/.290 Carlton Fisk's slash line on May 27th 1983. I think he wound up 2nd or 3rd in MVP voting that year. Those writing off De Aza might wind up surprised. I think an old Tim Raines is a better comparison.
