  1. QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 07:52 PM) So this pretty much solidifies the fact that we got absolutely nothing for Carlos Quentin. Well, if you want to count roughly 1/2 of Francisco Liriano last year at the deadline...the Hernandez/Escobar deal. Anderson with a solid game tonight. Let's just enjoy any offensive progress and assume he ends up at 2B/CF so we're not disappointed in him at SS! And Barnum has come out decently as well.
  2. Haha. Santiago has always had a good amount of success against the Royals, FWIW. Nice to see him getting the K there on the foul tip off the change-up to Butler. Still been struggling some with his location...his biggest weakness now is surrendering faith in his off-speed stuff and hitters laying in the weeds on his fastball.
  3. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 07:08 PM) Now sure it was fundamentally bad. Had to see if Dunn was going to head to 3rd before going to 2nd but didnt want to be caught in between if Dunn didn't so retreated to 1st knowing Francouer's arm. Anywy mute point after Dayan's HR. From the video, it seems he was watching McEwing and not the baserunner/Dunn.
  4. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) Gillaspie just a single on a ball off the wall bouncing 20 feet away from Francouer. Had to wait on Dunn but still odd. Dunn thought it was going to be caught and held up because he was so unsure of how to read it.
  5. Viciedo matches up perfectly with Chen. Dayan THIS close to having a homer and double/triple with 5 RBI's, if not for Cain's strong defense in CF.
  6. More bad base-running from the White Sox. Gillaspie HAS to be watching Dunn in front of him...he almost got himself hung up between 1st and 2nd. It's great we are winning this game, just frustrating you keep seeing so many fundamental mistakes (still).
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 06:57 PM) Cy looking human after all. Of course, it's kind of irrelevant now that the season's been declared history.
  8. It's a veritable offensive explosion against our old nemesis Guthrie. With his stuff, it's crazy that he's 62-81 career-wise. How many of those wins were against the White Sox? Ramirez and Rios increasing their trade value. Dunn scores Rios. 4-0. Hard to believe with that 0.40 ERA against the Sox the last couple of seasons.
  9. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 06:49 PM) I have no idea who Kelvis Valerio is, but he kicked ass for Bristol tonight. 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K. http://m.milb.com/player/606315/ A very rail thin Dominican pitcher who's a product of our new emphasis on that country and was with the DSL Sox the last couple of years.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 02:10 PM) Shailene Woodleys scenes in The Amazing Spiderman 2 as Mary Jane Watson were first cut from the movie, and now they are saying that the role of MJW is getting recast for the next two movies scheduled to come out in 2016 and 2018 Is that because she's having a conflict because of the shooting schedule for Divergent and The Fault in our Stars? Who the heck is Sarah Gadon that's taking her place?
  11. Hawkins 0/2 with another K. .196 Carlos Sanchez, 2/3, .232
  12. Okay, that makes sense. Whatever numbers you look at, they're all abysmal.
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 06:33 PM) It's what happens when your 2-15 in your last 17. That's not possible. We never got over the .500 mark this season. We were right there before the Cubs' series.
  14. Darn. Viciedo was robbed there by Cain...would have scored 2 more runs.
  15. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) I hate De Aza more than anyone on this team. Yes, more than Keppinger Keppinger just doesn't seem 100%...or, at least he wasn't at the start of the season. He actually righted himself and did what he was expected, but by then the negative impression was already made. Part of that was his defense at 2B, or lack thereof, so when you're not hitting or fielding, you're not going to make many fans.
  16. Can't say that was a great baserunning play by Ramirez, even though he was safe. Of course, next pitch...DeAza gets thrown out at home. Alejandro taking it for granted Tejada would go home. Should have waited and froze at third, and made Tejada throw across the diamond to get Rios from his heels. Can't believe McEwing sent him on contact. You knew 2nd and 3rd, no outs, couldn't result in a run against Guthrie.
  17. White Sox are 13-27 on the road. Wow. Didn't realize the splits were that dramatic.
  18. Greg can easily get free tickets and reduced parking ($7 the last time I went) at Kauffman. He needs tickets for the CELL. He probably wouldn't even have a passed ball. Not sure about his ability to throw anyone out, unless they're patrons from Applebee's who have just filled up on Baby Back Ribs and honey mustard chicken fingers and are slower than the Flying Molina Brothers.
  19. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...lb&c_id=mlb Sox don't have a whole lot of money to work with....roughly $2.1 million ($700K is added to the official amount, if you look at the bottom of the table). Need to continue to make inroads in the Dominican, as much as possible.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) I can give several. He's under team control for a couple more years (although arb years), the Sox have no one anywhere close to ready to take over CF next year, he started out the year poorly so its plausible he could improve his numbers and value significantly by the time the offseason rolls around if a team does want to trade for him, and if someone actually gets on him and coaches him on how to stay focused, particularly working on defensive drills, that could also improve him significantly. Again, I won't say no if he's traded for a reasonable return, but there's plenty of reason to hold on him and wait for someone to meet the price. If it's THAT easy, then there are TWO conclusions. 1) Our coaching staff is failing at their job/s. 2) DeAza's doomed to be an inconsistent/erratic player who doesn't listen to coaching and just does his own thing...meaning he's going to end up being traded for less than the underlying talent value because of the fatal flaw in his make-up. You could say the same thing about Ramirez during his time here. How much of it is "he is who he is," and how much is correctable/coachable? http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox-talk/w...ed-trade-rumors Didn't realize Lindstrom was only making $500K this season. That's going to make him really attractive to some contending teams out there. We'll definitely get more for him than Thornton, because of Matt's contract.
  21. http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/sbnati...the_block_.html Hahn starting to make some comments about fielding phone calls... Trayce Thompson in CF next year for the White Sox is another version of Brian Anderson all over again, with the exception he wasn't a pretty high first round draft choice is "seemingly" more expendable from an organizational standpoint of resources invested in/ROI.
  22. I'm going to e-mail that guy, I'll be in Africa at the same time, and I have two co-workers in Kenya who might also be able to help with their contacts in Nairobi. Actually, about five years ago, I applied to be part of the "MLB Ambassadors Program" but it's almost impossible to be accepted unless you're a former scout/player with a major league team (my experience was merely playing, coaching and working with a minor league team for 2 seasons, and existing contacts with some of those players/coaches, as well as a Master's in Sports Admin). There's a lot of potential in India because of all the cricket players and the similar hand-eye coordination skills that are involved. We've talked about Brazil already in this thread. Someone just mentioned Curacao. Will fill in everyone with updates as I find out more. FWIW, I've been to that Pine Ridge Reservation, it's home of the Lakota Sioux, and more familiar to people for Wounded Knee, where they're ATTEMPTING to build the Crazy Horse Monument and also the poorest county in the U.S. (Boone County, SD). Rampant alcoholism, unemployment, youth delinquency and massive frustration with the government there.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 12:24 PM) Just in case people didn't know those 2 moves happened. Knowing and caring are two entirely different things.
  24. World War Z.... A good summer popcorn movie, the quickness or speed of the zombies creates a different kind of tension than you're used to from the traditional zombie movies, like Dawn of the Dead, for example. Pitt was good. It's pretty much a no-name cast, but that worked in its favor, IMO. David Morse was probably the 2nd most well-known actor, and that was more of a cameo, so it's all riding on Brad Pitt's shoulders. In fact, I can't remember a blockbuster movie/tentpole movie being launched with almost a completely no-name secondary/supporting cast for quite some time. Not sure about "high" recommendation, but definitely a 3 out of 4 star. Saw it in 3D, not sure if it was worth it...the next movie I really am looking forward to in 3D is PACIFIC RIM. Also a bit sad that BEFORE MIDNIGHT disappeared after one week at the multiplex. If really well-made independent movies are even going to lose out to the likes of After Earth, I don't know what it says about the movie-going public these days. Nothing good.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 10:36 AM) I saw plenty of Magic early in his career. Passing was about the same I would say, maybe a slight edge to Magic, but pretty much anything else goes to LeBron. Shooting, defense, rebounding, etc all belong to James IMO Imagination and passing, creativity, there's more than a slight edge to Johnson. Obviously, rebounding and going to the basket/getting to the free throw line....Magic could score, but he wasn't capable of just destroying the other team in the lane going to the rim at will. He had his baby hooks and finesse moves, much like Kareem. When I think of LeBron, explosive and powerful are the two adjectives that come to mind right away, almost the opposite of Magic in many respects. Leadership, definitely Johnson, although Lebron's getting better in this area.
