But Conor Gillaspie is horrible at baseball, according to some esteemed advanced scouts at SoxTalk. Just feel sorry for Chris Sale. He doesn't deserve this. But it was a nice hustling play by Trevor Crowe earlier in the inning that set up everything for the Astros.

What new? Maybe Ramirez didn't need to be benched THIS SPECIFIC game, but you simply can't play him every inning of every game. Runner might have been safe at 2nd anyway...

DEAR ROBIN, According to the Astros' broadcast, when you were younger and playing at OSU, you took a test and finished first in the country...kind of like a combination of the IQ/logic/wonderlic exam NFL prospects take. Supposedly, you scored the highest ever...predicting your ability to be a general, CEO, etc., if you so chose to go into that field of endeavor. So please rest Ramirez. Hahn, please find someone you can trust to play SS for at least one game every 2 weeks at the major league level.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) Looks good. I doubt itll change my life, but likely keep me entertained for a 1.5 hours. Tree of Life didn't do it?

Gordon Beckham with a 300+ batting average was nice while it lasted.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 06:13 PM) http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20130614 Hawkins--the good outcome of his two outcomes. And he has a walk to go with his strikeout. Balance. LOL. 2 for his last 24. Both homers.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) And with the whole team's very public attitude of 'you hit one of ours, we hit one of yours', too. Skip Schumaker said LaRussa's philosophy (and the Dodgers' now) always was "we don't start things, but we end them."

QUOTE (mike89128 @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 07:07 PM) Got the Astros feed on Extra Innings.Someone needs to fires the two yokels doing the broadcast.Goin on and on and on for two innings with the female roving reporter about her catching a salmon thrown to her at Pikes in Seattle. Finally turned off the audio. HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros named their television and radio broadcast teams for the 2013 season at a press event at Minute Maid Park earlier today. Joining Bill Brown in the Astros television booth will be two former Astros players, Alan Ashby and Geoff Blum. The radio broadcast crew will be Kansas City radio personality Robert Ford and former Major Leaguer (and knuckleballer) Steve Sparks. My former college dorm neighbor Brett Dolan was doing tv with Milo Hamilton a year or two ago. No idea what happened to him, maybe they cleaned house with the new ownership group.

Although basing part of an argument on the fact that he was released (when he wasn't) and blocked behind a top five 3B in the majors...not sure where the logic is there. Did Bobby Jenks suck in 2005 because he was released by the Angels? Even if a player has been released, that's not a forever and ever indictment of said player. Look at Jason Grilli, with the Pirates this season. Any team in baseball could have picked him up numerous times for nothing in the past decade.

We went through this same discussion over the last month and now again after he's been struggling for about 20 at-bats again. I think the "psychological hit" of a demotion at this time will be greater than if EVERYONE realizes that something's wrong and maybe even Hawkins and his agent are on board and admitting something needs to be done. Dominating rookie ball won't help him...because those same pitchers won't be facing him in the Carolina League. If it's not about confidence and more about mechanics, then it doesn't matter where he is working on them, if it's Kanny, Winston-Salem or rookie ball. And he's going to get better instruction (at least theoretically) the higher up the chain you go, not to mention that the roving instructors should all be focusing on the Winston Salem and Birmingham rosters. If he fixes himself mechanically, he'll dominate anywhere. If he is having the same issues, he's going to struggle almost everywhere.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 11:04 PM) Rookie ball is fine by me. He just needs to face less advanced pitching while rebuilding his confidence and swing. You don't send him back to rookie ball with that kind of money invested in him and an 804 OPS combined between Kanny and Winston-Salem last year. You're panicking. If he's still doing this 3-4 months through 2014, then there's a right to be concerned. Look how long it has taken Trayce Thompson to get to where he is, for example.

The big take is that without considerable growth in Hawkins’ secondary skills, the hit tool won’t move forward. That growth can, however, take him to a power-hitting corner outfielder. What secondary skills is the writer referring to with this dramatic comment?
-
Even at his ancient age, he might be a better option as the long man in the bullpen than anyone we have currently at AAA. Not that it matters for the fate of the 2013 team at this point.

http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...ilb&lid=122 Uh, oh. Hawkins 0/3, 3 K's. 1 for his last 19. 10 K's over those 19 at-bats. Almost back to .200 again from .229.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 12:06 PM) Back in 1995, I went to this game and remembered being upset that a no-name pitcher with a high ERA completely dominated the White Sox. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CH...199507040.shtml I just want Bobby Bonilla back.

What will be baseball's next big market for players?
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
Forgot Australia. The Dodgers/DBacks will be kicking off the season there in 2014. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major...stralia#Players Dave Nilsson (Brewers/catcher) is the only one ever to make an All-Star team. Grant Balfour. It's a longer list than I would have thought. Liam Hendricks, Luke Hughes, Peter Moylan, Travis Blackley, Rich Thompson, Josh Spence. Graeme Lloyd was a well-known relief pitcher, back in the day, Craig Shipley, who played mostly with the Padres at SS. -
1/16 streak. Has lost 21 points from his batting average. Beck with one of his worst starts in recent weeks. Both Johnsons continuing to hit well for Kannapolis, although the Intimidators as a team overall are hot garbage. Their Dominican RF, Juan Ramirez, really struggling.

Patrick Corbin can dunk a basketball at 6'2" from standstill position...pretty impressive athlete. Was a basketball star when he was younger. Oh, the Angels wish they had him back, 9-0 this year and 3rd in the NL in ERA (Kershaw/S. Miller). LHers batting .138 against him. John Boles, former Dodgers' scout and then with the Marlins..."His ceiling as a player in the Sistine Chapel." Love that quote from Vin Scully.

http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/i...long-suspension Ian Kennedy should face 15 game suspension. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9378316/...unwritten-rules The Battle of the Unwritten Baseball Rules. Didn't realize that Greinke tried to hit Montero 4 times in that sequence...that changes things a LITTLE bit.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 06:25 PM) I don't care if he makes an out, as long as it's not a strikeout 1/15, 7 K's now since his 3/4 game.
-
What's the weather like there now at game time?
-
Are they going to send him out to Bristol or keep him in Chicago to wait for the next home series...so he can throw out the first pitch and do the obligatory media interviews? Or send him out to Bristol, bring him back to Chicago, then return him again? Maybe he has something on his twitter.

Hawkins 0/1, 1 for his last 13. Let's see how quickly he pulls out of this "mini-slump."
