  1. Another ball Gordon Beckham might have been able to get to... There's the hit from a former White Sox prospect with RISP. The last pitcher over 40 to throw a shutout in the AL was Curt Schilling in 2007. "What impressed me was the way he pitched to (cleanup hitter) Adam Dunn," Jaso said. "There's one particular spot the pitcher's report says not to throw him. We threw him only there. I'd call something and he'd shake me off and pitch to that spot. The ball was just moving so much." Dunn did get one of the five White Sox singles, but it came with two out in the fourth and he, like the rest of the White Sox, never got past first base. "I was trying to pitch him outside," Colon said through interpreter Ariel Prieto, aware that Dunn came into the game 5 for 10 with a homer off him. "He's a guy who's hit me well. I was trying to pitch him outside to change his rhythm." Colon, who has won three straight after a spell of four starts in which he hadn't won, is establishing himself as a key member of the rotation again at a time when No. 1 starter Brett Anderson is injured (stress fracture, right foot) and out of action. "I feel proud to pitch the way I did today," Colon said. "And it's against a team I pitched for back in the day (2003 and 2009)."
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) Is that a bit of sarcasm ? Unless your bunting in that situation you hit away . Looking for a hit there and to drive the ball. He hit it hard just at someone. Most outs are unproductive but if you're going to make an out with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs it needs to be productive. He needs to pull the ball to the right side of the infield and try to advance the runner. You could hit into a DP, but that's the normal baseball perspective on hitters who aren't 3-4-5 guys in the line-up.
  3. Weird the A's announcers would be wrong about something involving a former A's player....but they appear to be.
  4. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 02:44 PM) Other organizations being the Windy City Thunderbolts? Heh Well, he was drafted in the 30th round by the Padres, originally.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) They should be doing a hit-and-run every chance they get with Keppinger up to bat and a runner on base. Have to stop sitting around waiting for a 3 run homer on this team with average power. It's amazing, when you look at the homer numbers last year. Dunn, Konerko, AJ, Viciedo and Rios with 25+ Youkilis and Beckham with 15+ And Alexei/DeAza were dangerous from time to time as well.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) Yes, Gillaspie has been very good. He's going to be a serviceable player. Actually De Aza looked good last year too. He's been a train wreck. More than anything, the Sox need to draft and develop a star offensive player. Hopefully soon. Hawkins is the only one with a shot...if he gets his head out of the clouds. 15-25% chance Viciedo does it.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) They should be doing a hit-and-run every chance they get with Keppinger up to bat and a runner on base. Have to stop sitting around waiting for a 3 run homer on this team with average power. Of course, with the way this season's going, it would only end up with a swing-and-a-miss wipeout of the runner at 2nd by 10-15 feet.
  8. Sigh. Keppinger with a horrible at-bat to follow up Gillaspie not moving the runner.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) Quintana basically has a season's worth of production now. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/q/quintjo01.shtml All in all, a very good first year. Great job by the Sox getting guys like Quintana and Axelrod from other organizations. Now, how about some position players? Gillaspie. A's announcers claiming Viciedo prefers to play 3B. Not 100% sure where they got that one. Colon first AL pitcher with two shutouts in a season at age 40 or older since Dennis Eckersley. 2nd oldest in OAK history to throw a shutout. Don Sutton beat the White Sox 18 years ago...was a bit older than Bartolo.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) Stop with this. That would mean trading the likes of Sale, and you know that's not going to happen. Not if Marty does a leveraged buyout of the team, haha. Maybe not 1.2 million, but one could easily imagine 1.4 - 1.5 million. And we have to hope and pray Sale stays healthy.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 02:28 PM) So now Hawk is blaming the offense sucking this week on Samardzija dominating the Sox last Monday, sending them into a funk. Probably Gordon Beckham hitting 2nd, lol... Quintana doesn't have that putaway pitch. He keeps getting ahead of hitters but is going to end up with almost 30 pitches that inning. Which will inevitably lead to the next problem...our middle relievers in the 5th/6th innings.
  12. The dire predictions of under 1.2 million in attendance (with a Astros/Cubs/Marlins full rebuild) might be on their way to happening THIS YEAR if the current trend continues. Dunn is just impossible to cheer for anymore.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) Nope, Cespedes double. Waiting for someone to say "we signed the wrong Cuban." LOL. It is fitting, Cespedes jersey and bling-bling day at the O.co (worst stadium name in MLB history)
  14. And the White Sox Will To Lose Rule strikes again. Leave runners in scoring position with 2 outs or less, the other team will score 92% of the time in the next at-bat. Might as well be a former Sox prospect to add insult to injury, lol.
  15. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) This team can score runs and hit. We just need to Dunn far far away from those situations... preferably on the bench. Evidence from this year? Or 2012? Gordon Beckham will fix it.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) He's not an idiot, he just seems to have no strategy for how to try and push different buttons. And he was a position player...who led the world in hitting when he was in college and consistently put up 800-900 OPS years before the steroids era. Ironic that our problem is offense and defense, not pitching.
  17. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) Feels like yesterday we were just .500 and now we are 4 games back. Well, we are STILL only 4 1/2 GB of the Tigers and Indians at the moment. At least Ventura admitted, "right now, our offense stinks." Dunn surprisingly strikes out. #70. Honestly, this feels even worse than 2011 and 2007 right now. At least there was the Ozzie/KW soap opera two seasons ago for something to debate about. SIGH. More struggles with RISP. Ventura's not going to survive this season...he's going to snap at some point.
  18. Not the best location for an 0-2 curveball there Straily.
  19. Ubaldo Jimenez has been dominant against TB today...shades of the Rockies' version.
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) That's why you make the trade. Lot's of salary gone. Still have decent starting pitching. You let PK retire and that's more salary gone + the extra TV money. Martin has played a lot for the Rangers this year and has been pretty good and has a lot of skills. I doubt the Rangers would even consider giving up 2 of their top 3 prospects for so much salary , but you never know since they are hungry for a championship and Peavy and Rios could give that to them. We get younger cheaper and have lots of room to make more moves. Frankly ,I think it's a steal for the Sox and the Rangers would never consider it. Where's Rios going to play? From everything you read, they'll move Kinsler to the outfield to keep his bat in the line-up unless they to find the right trading partner for Profar. Cruz is their regular RFer and you don't want to play Rios in CF again if you're the Rangers. They've got Murphy in LF.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 01:17 PM) That's a big part of the reason we're a mess right now, those 2 not hitting. The fact that they are a mess also makes moving them difficult to impossible again, so why the Rangers would take either of them on I have zero idea. If you, who are one of the more optimistic fans out there, are posting something like this...there's no reason to believe the average White Sox fan is going to buy that this team is a playoff contender from here on out. Which means adding players for anything more than setting up 2014 makes little to no sense, and will only end up blocking players we need to see full-time for the remainder of the season.
  22. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 01:19 PM) Sure they can. Martin is younger and maybe just as good as Rios, way cheaper too. Plus there might be more moves after this since Alexei or Beckham or both could be moved if you have Profar. You do realize Alex Rios is as close as we have to a franchise player right now in our line-up? Either him or Viciedo, for the time being. Will agree about the way cheaper, but "maybe just as good," there's not much clear evidence yet of that. Now I wouldn't mind Martin in CF, moving DeAza (or acquiring someone else) to LF...if we're to be stuck with DeAza. Beckham doesn't have any value right now to a contending team...unless there's one that has an abundance of hitting that needs a defense-first 8th or 9th place hitter.
  23. http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/e...-001319089.html Starting to get a little excited about this movie. Interesting combination of actors in this one....none famous, but all super-talented.
  24. Matt Cain for who/m? Haha. Coop can fix him.
  25. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) I must've posted in invisible ink : CaliSoxFanViaSWs... post Yesterday, 02:57 PM Peavy and Rios to the Rangers for Jurickson Profar and Leonys Martin. The White Sox can't compete in 2014 without Rios. They can, however, manage without Peavy much easier...and, they can sign a pitcher in the off-season, if necessary. Would still have a rotation of Sale/Quintana/Danks/Axelrod/Santiago/Johnson. 6 deep.
