Santiagos's Screwball vs Guthrie's AL Rebirth
caulfield12 replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2012 Season in Review
FWIW, Mike Gellinger, one of their top scouts/front office people (can't remember his exact title, someone can look it up) had a major health scare recently...before, he was listed as something to do with scouting/video work, sometimes fill-in 1B coach. DETROIT -- Chicago White Sox assistant hitting coach Mike Gellinger has been in a Baltimore hospital since Wednesday after suffering a fall in his hotel room. Gellinger blacked out and suffered trauma to a vertebrae. He was expected to fly to Chicago on Sunday. Gellinger, a 1982 graduate of Fremd High School, was the Sox's computer systems analyst in 1997 and evolved into an assistant hitting coach with former hitting coach Greg Walker. He also managed in the Sox's minor league system. mark gonzales -

Glad I stayed up from 2 to 6 a.m. on a work day. STUPID STUPID WHITE SOX, Olmedo and Ventura. Oh, and Myers. ZERO confidence in Quintana beating Porcello, who has owned the Sox this season. It all comes down to Peavy vs. Fister on Tuesday. Jake's got to show up. Also, zero confidence in Liriano beating Scherzer. In a way, it's fitting, the season rides on the shoulders of Peavy and Sale. Which Verlander will show up Thurday night? Which Sale? 89-91 MPH or 92-95 MPH version? -

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 9, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) If the Tigers win, Sox are in trouble. They would be 1-8 against any team NOT named White Sox the last 2 weeks. -

Dirks K's agianst FRIERI with a runner on 2nd and 2 outs. Still 3-2, bottom of the 8th. Sets the Sox up to lose 3/4 at home and still hold a first place tie going into next weekend. Feels about the same as the last 2-3 weeks of the 2008 season, where the Twins and White Sox were trying to give each other the division on virtually a daily basis. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) Agreed, absolutely horrible call against a guy who was throwing the ball all over. If you do it, do it with 0 strikes to at least give ADA a chance to fight in the AB. Ventura and the stupid bunt today cost us dearly. 1) Olmedo missed bunts in the 1st, costs us a run 2) Didn't run when he managed to get it down 3) DeAza's blown suicide squeeze when the ball hits his bat -

Olmedo wasn't even a veteran from another team. He was more like a lifer AAAA journeyman hanging on for the salary and per diem in the International League. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 9, 2012 -> 04:41 PM) f***ING REY OLMEDO. Oh my god, where was Tyler Flowers? Ventura burned him as announced PHer, then pulled him for Dan Johnson who was walked. -

Goodbye Olmedo, hope you never ever play again for the White Sox. -

Hahah. If that ball didn't hit Alejandro's bat, a tie game. Sigh. -

Why did they even pitch to DeAza with Olmedo on deck? -

No hitch, no hitch, no hitch. LOL. Just get it to DeAza with a chance to tie the game, without hitting into a DP. That's it. -

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Sep 9, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) We can't still have the best BA with RISP, can we? It feels like we're dead last in that category over the past few weeks We were at .294. Then it fell to .285, and that was a couple of days ago. I think it's 15/81 now for the last 9 games, since Alexei's single couldn't score the runner...should have sent him anyway and hoped the Royals actually made a bad throw for once. -

Boesch is stranded on 2B by Peralta after doubling. 3-2 Angeles into the bottom of the 7th. And you wonder why under 20,000 came out to this game on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, despite the Bears' game. Nobody has much faith in our bullpen holding up against really good teams. -

5-10 against KC, 4-10 against DET Cue Greg775 rant. You just had a feeling this game was over when Rios hit into that DP. But you would have thought when we actually threw out Escobar we were going to get out of the 10th unscathed. -

Harrelson's absolutely right. We just gave away two more games this series. Eventually it will come back to bite us in the end. Yet another blown game to add to the list. At least he won't finish THIS game. OH BOY. Harrelson sighs. -

Can his contract be voided if MLB thinks he's trying to lose games on purpose (to finish them) so that his contract for next year will kick in? LOL. Well, sort of not funny. -

The White Sox are CURSED against the Royals. Just never going to get a better chance to win a game against them than we just had. Is the combination of AJ and a lefty going to be able to keep Escobar from taking 2nd base? We'll soon enough find out. -

Because Rios can't bunt...and not easy to bunt off a guy throwing 100 MPH in the shadows. I give up keeping track of our anemic numbers with RISP. And Olmedo's blown bunt with DeAza at 2nd in the bottom of the 1st, the error and the baserunning gaffe. He should never play again for the White Sox.
