Get it over with and let Buehrle go to Yanks/Red Sox
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 12:10 AM) I heard a discussion on the SCORE about that. I guess Hahn is the highest paid asst. GM in baseball. So the reason why he hasn't been hired can be over money. Guess he learned how to negotiate his own contract from working for Steinberg and Moorad! -
Maybe Heyward and Beachy for Quentin, Thornton, Dunn, and Rios. We'll throw in Peavy to make it far.
-
QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 11:31 PM) Is Hahn really considered a sabremetrichead? Didn't think he was and if he isn't then he wouldn't fit the bill that Ricketts is looking for. If he's been responsible for our farm I wouldn't hire him based on that mess. He's considered a hybrid, basically. Next to Ozzie and KW, anyone would look like Bill James or Billy Beane.
-
Zombie Apocalypse? Isn't that basically what happens to our offense most nights?
-
Greg, it will never happen. If he goes through another year like 2011....then he probably would retire. But renegotiating right now, forget it. Never going to happen. The player's union would go bonkers and we'd never be able to sign a big free agent for 10 years or until a new ownership group was in place.

I know one thing. JR will never live down letting Hahn go if he won a World Series for the Cubs. Yet if you're Hahn, you have to be thinking that the Cubs have a much better shot at competing 2-3 years from now because they'll be rid of all their bad contracts except for Soriano. With Dunn and Rios, there's just no answer to that problem, and the ongoing dilemma which is Gordon Beckham. You might only get one chance at a GM job, you go after the Cubs job 100% and you STILL probably have the White Sox as the fallback position. Personally, Byrnes is the guy I'd go after (if I were Reinsdorf), but who actually knows what he's thinking. They're definitely not in a position like the Cubs would be to possibly get a Friedman type. If he wasn't so old, Ryan, the former Twins GM, would be my 2nd choice. The Twins' model didn't lead to a World Series title, but with a bigger potential future budget (when the new TV deal is renegotiated)...the White Sox should still be able to spend 25-33% more than the Twins because of their built-in Chicago market media advantages.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 10:40 PM) How long will u be in China? Do you love it over there? Is it lucrative? I am a Journalism major so if you want to get them to make me an offer I'll listen Good luck to you over there. Seems kinda scary. Greg, Northeast/Paseo/Southeast High Schools in KC are a lot scarier than anything I've ever seen abroad. Or the KCKS School District. There are a lot of writing opportunities abroad. I've written some articles for local/regional magazines, but just for fun and to earn extra money. But there are full-time gigs, if you're willing to do some advertising/ad sales work on the side to supplement the writing part. -

Thanks, Soxfest. I'll have to find some arms for the new GM, lol. Maybe I can find Jerry Krause's number or e-mail add...but I think he's only responsible for Latin America and not Asian scouting. -

Yep, going back to Shanghai and my teaching job this Friday....have to stay near O'Hare tmrw night. Goodbye to US and gaining 12 pounds in 4 weeks, haha. I came weighing 180 and now have to get back into shape playing badminton and ping pong, lol. At least I did get to see the Royals/Red Sox last Thursday and paid $14.00 with free parking because we were so late! -

This would have been one of those nights you'd have had to bet against the Sox if you were a gambler. With the Angels smelling a race again with the Rangers and Weaver going...no way they were going to lose this one. Glad it was blacked out in Iowa and I had no way to actually see the dismal results. -

The one prior to that, he faced Verlander and there was the stare-down incident with Carlos Guillen and Weaver was summarily ejected not so long after. -
Yep, the Dotel and Linebrink overpays. And a lot of missed opportunities as half the "new" White Sox fans from 2005-06-07 disappeared back into the woodwork.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 05:51 PM) If you hit Konerko 3rd, and Q is out, who exactly is left to hit clean up? Dunn? Baines, Melton, Kitty or Walker -

Well, Weaver hasn't won a game for something like a month. Don't think he's pitched that poorly (see Danks, J. 0-7 start) but simply a function of the anemic (yet better than White Sox nevertheless) offense. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 07:17 AM) I'd off myself if they got Friedman. A dynasty (within the division) would be on the horizon. Didn't realize about 80-85% of the GM's who've led their teams to the playoffs were doing in with their very first team. Interesting. http://www.csnchicago.com/08/22/11/Kaplan-...amp;feedID=8487 -
Then again, if Nick Swisher or Alex Rios were to say that, we'd probably think their PR person or agent wrote it and that it was entirely disengenuous.
-
That would give the Yankees quite a logjam with Tex, Swisher, Posada, Pena, etc. Guess it doesn't really matter to them financially....Pena would only be $1.7-1.8 million for the rest of the season, something like that.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 06:53 PM) No thanks...if you look at the holes the Sox have, there's really nothing the Cubs can offer. Disinterested Castro for Beckham and all the gold in Fort Knox
-
What is the limit to the number of claims you can make?
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 06:22 PM) I'm sure that they have. Gavin's just the only one to have been claimed. Well, obviously Danks, Sale and Santos wouldn't make it very far.

QUOTE (sunofgold @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) Let's get a couple unearned runs and one earned run and win 3-2. We are fading in the division, but the Cheryl Tig's are overdue for a double digit losing streak. heehee! Does anyone else here know who Cheryl Tiegs is, lol? Maybe Christie Brinkley, but that's going WAY back to the late 70's/early 80's. I think she was the first one Sports Illustrated ever showed on the cover with what amounted to a see-through top. -

The only logic would be to save money and get back something in return...especially if we knew he would be willing to come back. Of course, if he really does intend to finish his entire career with the White Sox, you probably don't want to sacrifice it for 5 weeks and a post-season appearance, but that would be entirely up to Mark and his family, how he feels about his "Sox legacy." I don't think very many White Sox fans look at Frank Thomas in a lesser light because of the way his career ended with the A's and Blue Jays, do they? I get the appeal of being one of those guys like Gwynn, Ripken, Puckett, Mattingly, Ichiro or Yount that played for just one team their entire career, though. It's a short list. -
I hope the Twins did let him go to us, just to mock us. Unfortunately, that involves dealing with a real human being's feelings as well, and they would never do that because of the respect they have for him up there. Kubel makes pretty much zero sense, unless the goal is to keep Viciedo from every playing in the big leagues again. Probably they'll sign Kubel to a three-year deal, keep Quentin and then Viciedo will be stuck in AAA hell forever. Would actually love to see Kubel and Viciedo together (from an offensive perspective) in the same outfield, but that would turn it into a zone rating/fielding minefield...because the "eye test" tells you Alex Rios hasn't even been an average CFer this year. And as far as Frasor goes, it seems like he might be another Riske. Where we decline the club option and don't offer arbitration. We'll see how well "Edwin Jackson Stewart" with a mullet does against the 2nd best pitcher in the AL. It might not be a pretty sight with the Angels sniffing a chance to get back into the AL West race.

Well, counting Teahen and Jackson, we've brought that down to the 110's. Yay!
