"Chen threw the ball good (well)." Ozzie Knew that was coming. "Jackson pitched well." Yikes. -
Official greg don't jump off a ledge until Sunday thread

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) The Sox are afraid to act like they want to uh ... compete. They should have done it before the KC series and the restart of Comedy Central Division games, but the time to do it is now. Bring up Dayan for the Minnie series. But no ... that might show Minnie we think they are a threat and we respect them. What's wrong with showing you want to change things and actually compete. The lineup as it stands is putrid. Viciedo won't save it but it's time for a change. Whether people want to believe it or not, dropping 2 more to KC is really really bad. Greg, how many times have we lost 2/3 to KC in the last 5+ seasons?? Too many times to count. They just grew and grew in confidence after 2006 against us. We used to play them and you'd assume we'd go no worse than 12-6 in the season series. Now we're struggling to play .500 ball against the Royals. Imagine if you're the Red Sox and you got swept by the White Sox, haha. And Adam Dunn won't have to face Liriano in the 3 hole. Baker, their most solid pitcher along with Duensing, might not start Sunday. Oh, and Ozzie, don't you dare let Adam hit 3rd against Duensing, either. 7-13 in the AL Central just won't get it done. 7-27 (0-4) against the Twins, 1-5 against the Tigers (including a streak of 8 in a row dating back to last year) as well. The Twins will get back a healthy Morneau in mid August, get back Span, get back D. Young...they still have a chance to make a run at this. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) We've got exactly one guy in the minors that can upgrade the offense almost immediately. No sense in even talking about anybody else. I'm certain we have no legitimate trade assets, either. Damn shame Peavy is so combustible. I'd be all for dealing a guy like Floyd for some offense. Maybe DeAza, but Juan Pierre is issue #8 or 9 with this team right now.

Greg, I don't think we want to see Tyler Kuhn or Eduardo Escobar at 2B. If anything, they'd be likely to give Omar more playing time or perhaps even Teahen out of desperation, although his defensive shortcomings and turning the double play, they'd give up that experiment in 3-5 games. Royals already tried it. Lillibridge is even more discouraging offensively than Beckham the last month.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 04:03 PM) waiting for the annual "We Suck" quote from Ozzie. Maybe he's saving it for the weekend? I think he already exhausted that during the 4-18 streak. He might need to go back to it after this Minnesota series. -

You'd even have to say the Tigers are underachieving a bit, although not everyone was convinced that Scherzer and Porcello were quite ready to be aces this season. They have Verlander, Valverde, Boesch, Cabrera, Peralta, V-Mart and Avila. The rest of their team is worse than what the White Sox throw out there 8-25 on a daily basis. But those are some darned good players, obviously Verlander and Cabrera being perhaps 2 of the 5 most valuable players in the game today. -
Thought this could be the post-game venting thread to get it out of our system/s. Dunn, please don't let Ozzie hit you 3rd again this season against a LHP until your BA is over 200 at least. Morel. Please hit away the next time you have a 3-0 count against Bruce Chen, that's likely to be your best pitch to hit. Paulie, even the great ones have a bad day when they get themselves out against a pitcher like this...same as opposing hitters feel about Buehrle. Congrats to Hector Santiago. We never knew you. Edwin Jackson, please please please get a feel for your offspeed stuff again (like 2010) and stop pumping fastball after fastball in there to start every single at-bat.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) Is it the most boring? Honestly, only consistently "can't miss" thing for me watching a Sox game this year has been Santos pitching. And Konerko hitting before today. And Chris Sale recently.

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:39 PM) Dude, I swear you mention rios in everything, yes he's bad actually horrible, but I think it's hypocritical that we beat up on rios and pierre and give a pass to others Because I don't think he's maximizing his God-given ability. It's a waste, a shame, however you want to describe it. Dunn's just lost mentally. That's not about lack of effort...that's simply trying too hard and thinking too much. It just usually doesn't last for this long. If you want to compare, except for the first 2-3 months of 2010, Rios has been lost for almost 3 years at the plate. And his defense has deteriorated markedly this year. It's clear to everyone who follows the team closely.
-
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) Again mr. Gammons what is defense? Fancy plays in the hole? How many games/runs had he cost us with bonehead plays? A lot more than he's saved How many games has Rios had ANYTHING more than a negligible impact offensively on from July, 2010 until this current moment??? He's cost us at least a couple of games this season off the top of my head, but he clearly was the best SS in the AL defensively last year when he played next to Omar Vizquel after Teahen went down. Alexei is making $1.9 million this season, Rios $12 million.
-
Where the hell was that swing with the bases loaded? The White Sox just haven't gotten very many timely hits recently.
-
Good pitching will make your offense look stagnant. Going for striking out the side on 9 consecutive pitches.
-
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) Huh? 8 homers and 30 something RBI's are good numbers? Whoa you're standards are kinda low How many shortstops that are close to the top defensively are also averaging 15 homers and 60+ RBI's per season? This is not 2008. Offense has fallen off by 20-25% since then. That's the equivalent of 20 and 75, normally Juan Uribe's numbers.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:21 PM) Saw a rumor they're trying to acquire a SS and starting pitcher...maybe Hardy/Guthrie? Then they would play Peralta back at 3B again? Santiago's been 2B, with Raburn. Guthrie makes a lot of sense as insurance for Scherzer/Porcello/Penny.
-
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:18 PM) No, but he's my whipping boy just like rios is many people here He misplayed another ball today (badly) that went off the top of the fence for a homer. Didn't even make a play on it, really. Not that our offense can score, anyway.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) How many double plays is that for Alexei over the last month? Might as well have him bat after Morel to make sure there's never anyone on base. Good idea. Send it to Ozzie's e-mail inbox.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) LOL. Nice at bat Lexi. You think Anderson is still getting the women? Is he still in baseball even? Hope he hasn't spent all of his money already. It would be pretty hard to blow $2-3 million (salaries and signing bonus) but I wouldn't put it past him. I'm sure Borchard invested his money more wisely. Comes from a very solid, down-to-earth farming family.

White Sox Baseball: Finding New and Creative Ways to Erase Baserunners LOL at AJ throwing up his arms in the face of the relay throw.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) Problem is the home run well has dried up (cept for Paulie of course) And the guys that don't think home run....can't ever walk or even hit a double these days. You can count Lillibridge as a charter member of the "homer happy" club, too. Vizquel...well, he hasn't changed in 20+ years.
-
Most junior college teams would probably have a better chance against Chen...he pitches so slowly, he's under that typical fastball hitting zone of 86-96 that 98% of starters are at. This isn't the first time he's bedeviled a team. It won't be the last, I'm sure. Tip your caps, yada yada.
-
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) his next start is in over a week why not also I think the Sox take 3 of 4 or sweep the Twins I am not sure why but maybe this is the wake up call The last time a terrible loss to the Royals really served as an actual wake-up call was a couple of times late in the 2005 season. One was a game we blew with a huge lead, another was a bad Buerhle start.
-
I would have been happier had we just gotten no-hit. At least then there would have been some pressure on the coaching staff, some embarrassment and humiliation. POSTGAME CALL FIRE GREG WALKER....HOW CAN WE NOT FREAKING HIT BRUCE CHEN???????????????? Rongey, well.....Chen's 5-2, he's got an ERA close to 3.00, he's tough. That's FIVE, count 'em FIVE, major league teams he's beaten this season. He's a lot like Jamie Moyer or Tim Wakefield. He can throw hitters' timing off for weeks. Look what he did to Konerko, our best hitter and someone who's been totally locked in for 18 months. At one point, Bruce was the top-ranked pitching prospect in the game when he was coming up with the Braves.
-
Konerko having what is undoubtedly his worst game of the season. Not good. He got himself out there. Overthinking, getting too impatient. Rare from Paulie the last couple of seasons.
-
At least Dunn has SOME plate discipline. It should be 4-2 with three chances to tie it. Now a double play gets Chen out of the inning. Huge difference.
-
Morel just swung at ball four and put all the pressure in the world on Dunn. As if he needed it. Jesus, Morel can't keep hitting 3rd. They really should have forced him to go after the 3-0 fastball.
