GT: White Sox @ Rays, 5/30 12:40 CDT, WGN

If Thornton gets to 30 pitches, he might be out TUES against Texas even with the off day on Monday. Who the heck is going to pitch next, Putz or Jenks? I hope not Jenks. -

They sniffed out the squeeze and pitched out. Nothing Vizquel could have done. That's two times that Maddon has out-managed Ozzie today...the other time with the CS. Teahen will have an x-ray of his ring finger tmrw. Nix/Vizquel platoon might come back. Unfortunately, Teahen was actually starting to contribute offensively for the last 7-10 days. -
Beckham had those two "high leverage" situations where he didn't drive in a single run, and the defense lapse that opened up the floodgates in that inning...although the damage was contained when Pierre caught the fly ball to keep it from breaking open. The Pena bases-clearing double was obviously the game, and it stood up from that point on. I decided to read Dostoevsky instead of wasting my time with a foregone conclusion.

It seems we're going to oscillate back and forth between 5-8 games under .500 and 6-9 games back for the whole season. This year just sucks...we might as well tank and hope to get another Beckham in the Top 5 picks, if we can find someone who JR is willing to give a signing bonus (yes, I know we gave money to Borchard, Viciedo and Beckham, and stupidly to Lance Broadway).

Two very bad decisions defensively. Now Danks looks to 3rd, nobody's there....he who hesitates is lost. Groundball, two bunts, no outs in the inning. Speed kills. Beckham and Kotsay both made the wrong moves, Beckham to go to third and Kotsay to try to go to the glove flip. Danks at 80 pitches and Pena warming...we have to keep this game within 2 runs.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2010 -> 05:57 PM) If he snaps out of it, returns to his 2008 form, and stays healthy, he still hits 30+. I'll say False until he earns my confidence again. It's like saying I won't believe in G*d until I see a miracle. Well, I guess a lot of the baseball world would fall into the Doubting Thomas category w/ Quentin at this point.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 29, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) That's a sign of a top of the rotation -- ACE -- pitcher. It's game over when he's on and he finds a way to get outs when he doesn't have it. It's really what separates him from someone like Gavin Floyd. C'mon. Floyd will be fine. Everyone rips him and then he inevitably goes for 6-8 weeks where he's the best pitcher in the AL. Has Danks already come close to having 3 no-hitters? And the defense never plays well behind him, either.
-
The only problem with this game is Danks is already at 35 pitches. Which means Santos, Putz, Pena and Thornton are going to need to go 4 innings probably. And how many times can Matty and Santos pitch back-to-back? Just lost a run there on a horrible, Sosa-esque throw by Upton...but couldn't take the risk with Teahen's lack of foot-speed. Beckham just can't seem to get going on a consistent basis.

If Gordon doesn't make that play, really crooked numbers. Wills' line=Mark Teahen looking like the Jordan statue outside of the United Center on that play Seriously, I'd rather have Omar Vizquel and L. Nix platooning there and just sit Teahen on the bench until we're 10 games back. We can't afford to fall any farther behind the Twins.

By the way, Dave Wills has really become a very good broadcaster. It's a pleasure to listen to him, because he knows the Sox so well. He was making a remark about the lack of ability for the White Sox to deal with pitchers (like Davis b4) they're seeing for the first time, soft-tossers and junkballers, etc., since the mid 90's. Beckham really seems perfectly suited for 2B. Now just get your OPS up to 750 Gordon.

http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/gameday...indaaa_chraaa_1 Former Sox 1B Myrow takes Hudson deep for a 2 run homer in the first, but still early. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ox&did=milb Brandon Short out of the line-up. Justin Greene leading off for one of the first times of the season...please promote him, Buddy For Whom the Bell Tolls. Leesman starting.

Yeah, give me a 10 game stretch. Like the team, Beckham seems like he's coming out of it, then he'll go into a funk and disappear again. A low 500's OPS isn't going to get it done, obviously, unless you're Chris Getz and that's your MLB ceiling. We just need to figure out a way back to .500, we've been stalled between 5-8 games under now seemingly for weeks. Of course, playing TB and Texas, it's not so easy to reel off 4 or 5 victories in a row, but we're pretty lucky to get the Rays when they're struggling like they are now.

Jordan Danks 2/2 in K'ing tonight

It will be interesting. Do you go with Thornton or Putz against Jaso, who's a switch hitter. I'd probably go with Thornton and then bring in Putz against Longoria. On second thought, with Pena lurking, I'd just take my chances with Matty. I don't like Pena coming up against Putz at all, just has a bad vibe/feeling to it.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 27, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) I am pretty sure we have the worst farm system in baseball now. When out of your so-called top six prospects: Hudson, Mitchell, Flowers, Danks, Morel and Viciedo (since there is a clear drop after those six coming into the year) one is having a great year, two solid years, two bad years and one out of the year, you system is going to decrease in the rankings. Add in the s*** we have minus those guys and it's bad. I am not even excited about Hudson or Viciedo because I just view them as White Sox prospects who will come up the majors and suck. Then, either toil in the minors or get traded. Thompson might end up being a bust or far better than all of those names (combined). Escobar has a good chance to be a quality player, with some decent punch and "plus" defense at SS. Nathan Jones and Santos Rodriguez have intriguing arms. I've enjoyed following Short, Gilmore, Greene, etc., at W-S this year. I think we're somewhere between 23-27th, in all honesty.
