  1. Hopefully he has a better career with the Sox than Steven Wilson at least...if anything, he should be good enough to log some "swingman" garbage innings, he did that to a -0.2 result last year (over 100 IP) with the Brewers and has an overall 0.2 fWAR for his career, which is better than 70-75% of the 2024 pitching staff.
  2. I bet Getz was more concerned that the money would be spent on signing Sasaki...which we never realistically had a shot at, anyway, but it would look pretty bad if we facilitated him signing elsewhere unless another team was convinced that parting with a product and upping their bid by $740,000 was really going to be worth it in the end.
  3. So we've got Meidroth, Vargas, Baldwin, Sosa, Jacob Gonzalez and now this guy who all profile best at 2B...although some can obviously play 3rd base as well. First one to put up an OPS of 725-750 in the majors wins. Brayan Ramos is looking like he's going to get crowded out of the picture quickly unless he can successfully convert to 1B/DH.
  4. If the proposed stadium isn't opening until 2029, could the Rays just play at Steinbrenner Field until then? Highly unlikely. The Rays are treating Steinbrenner as a stopover, not unlike how the Athletics are using another minor league stadium, Sutter Health Park, to set up shop before their planned move to Las Vegas in 2028. It's not just the weather concerns -- the combination of extreme heat and rain in the summer that, accordingly, have the Rays on the road for 35 of 48 games between July 4 and the end of August. Deposing a minor league affiliate of an organization in the same division is simply something that's not likely to be agreed upon for an extended period of time. Where would the Rays play, then? Good question. Would MLB give them permission to moonlight in a potential expansion city? Could they find somewhere to play in Pinellas County for three more years? Is Omaha, which the Wall Street Journal reported could host the Rays, really a possibility? It's all unknown. Just as important as the next few years is what comes after that. The goal is for the Rays to know where they're going to be in 2028 and 2029 as early as 2026. Though as the A's showed this year, those sorts of timelines tend to be more fluid than the "deadlines" suggest. https://global.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/43039285/mlb-2024-tampa-bay-rays-st-petersburg-new-stadium-future-tropicana-field-faq
  5. Who the hell are they going to pass, exactly? The Twins and Tigers are spending money, the Guardians are the champions and the Twins are the favorites via a number of projection systems. They'd be lucky to be within 10-15 games of 4th place, at least where things stand currently.
  6. Duber was the consummate professional and too objective...but packing the rhetoric flourishes or panache of Fegan. Seems like "school/CEO shootings expert" would be a more promising area for journalists. Pretty sure Chris Rongey has a morning radio show with a female co-host in StL, even that might have more longevity.
  7. Nice timing right before Christmas. Hopefully they had a head's up here.
  8. https://chicago.suntimes.com/2024/12/18/white-sox-sign-righty-bryse-wilson-to-one-year-1-05m-deal 1 year/$1.05 million Is that the league minimum or did we just have to break the piggy bank to sign him?
  9. “Not a single Astros pitcher, and we remain 2nd in least affected ball clubs (Royals I believe are #1). America’s favorite team would never be caught in a million years cheating! /s”
  10. Kevan Smith was definitely drafted by the Sox. Maldonado was beyond terrible. Soto was asked to almost be a DH moreso than a regular catcher and Burke was run over/flattened by Torii Hunter as the 2003 late race with the Twins permanently shifted against the Sox and Loiaza.
  11. Tatis' father was the main one who warned the White Sox they were making a mistake and were going to regret it. This was also during the time he had a 2+ inch growth spurt while also adding speed and athletic is my...although it can be argued I suppose that was related to PEDs or perhaps the Sox were just caught unawares with Preller having 5-6 Latin scouts all over him and later in Arizona. Heck, Keith Law was also in the know there because he made a massive jump on the prospect lists and Law was the first to promote him as one of the top prospects in the game so quickly after his MiLB debut.
  12. Tray...you're a bit late to the party here.
  13. They both were former Angels' catchers who were decent with the Sox, or at least contributed something. Well, now Quero has been jinxed, but he never played in the majors for the Angels, so perhaps still safe from the Stassi Jinx.

  15. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jorge_Fábregas https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_Paul Ah, contraire, mon frere. Of course, you're referring to Max Stassi, luckily the Angels paid almost all of his salary except for the MLB minimum, pretty sure they also were responsible for any buyout there as well.
  16. Uh… ya sure about that? 😆 Baty again???
  17. There's no way in HELL that the Pirates are going to trade Jones for Robert...they believe his value is closer to Crochet's. And they're certainly not going to add another "bigger" salary while getting rid of the much cheaper and younger centerpiece of their rotation. For Davis+ without Jones being involved at all, sure. We love to take on the baggage of former first round draft picks that fail elsewhere...and then try to "fix" them, usually failing somewhere along the way. But especially when there's a dramatic position shift like catcher or 1B/3B to OF. That's our specialty, right?
  18. White Sox are totally serious about investing in their on-field product, spending money freely, whereas the Yankees are keeping their powder dry.
  19. CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Pinellas County Commission voted Tuesday to approve bonds that will finance its share of a new Rays ballpark in St. Petersburg, but the club said the county’s previous delays would force them to push back the planned opening of the ballpark by a year and makes it unrealistic for them to solely afford the increased cost of construction. County Commissioners initially agreed to delay their vote on Oct. 29. Before the county again deferred its vote on Nov. 19, Rays presidents Matt Silverman and Brian Auld wrote that the unexpected October pause “ended the ability for a 2028 delivery of the ballpark,” as scheduled, and added that “a 2029 ballpark delivery would result in significantly higher costs that we are not able to absorb alone.” The St. Petersburg City Council voted earlier this month, 4-3, to approve bonds to fund the city’s $287.5 million portion of the Rays’ planned $1.3 billion stadium and surrounding Historic Gas Plant District development. The County Commission followed suit on Tuesday with a 5-2 vote in favor of the bonds funding the county’s $312.5 million investment in the project. $600 million from city and country, $700 million (plus) from the Rays...now also they're claiming that 2029 will be the year for the new stadium, not 2028 https://www.mlb.com/news/rays-pinellas-county-negotiations-new-stadium-deal
  20. They seem petrified by past experience with the Chris Davis FA contract to go over or near the $200 million contract mark...fwiw.
  21. Maybe you guys need to have a dance-off to decide who's right?
  22. Or "rate" Dominic Fletcher in RF?
  23. Isn't that what happened to whatever's left of Sports Illustrated (minus the Swimsuit Issue)?
  24. You witnessed Morel trying to hold down a defensive position, I assume...?
