White Sox Top 10 Prospects (BA)
Major league regulars, or White Sox regulars? For the White Sox, that means a 1.5 to 2ish fWAR at best.

White Sox Top 10 Prospects (BA)
Joining the long long line of first round disappointments with only Sale Anderson Rodon (sort of) and Crochet reaching their potential...and whatever you want to consider Burger based on his slot in the first round. At any rate, he's definitely behind Baldwin Meidroth and Bonemer now.

Crochet Traded to Boston
If Jerry did pass away, his sons are suddenly going to authorize big FA contracts or extensions? More than likely...it would start a period where the team was up for sale and the stadium situation remained in limbo. That said, it couldn't possibly be worse than the present predicament.

Tatis, Elly de la Cruz, Ohtani, Rodriguez and ONeil Cruz are all taller, dynamic fast-twitch athletes. But they are pretty much unicorns.

"I am humbled by this honor -- both because of the list of previous winners but also due to the absence of the names of so many of my co-workers (Haber/Hostetler/Paddy) who should join my name on this year's award," Hahn said in a statement. "I view this award as recognition of excellent work by many across the entire White Sox organization to set us up for a bright future. We don't win this award without what [executive vice president] Kenny Williams has meant to this organization for the past three decades nor without the tireless work and dedication of our scouts, player development personnel, coaches, clubhouse staff and front office personnel to whom I am indebted." 6/18 votes for Hahn to beat out Preller, Friedman and Neander (Rays). White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
If he did put up those numbers, $175-250 million isn't out of the really of possibility for an extension...

Joe Borchard was all of those characteristics and more... Obviously if he's passed his physical from both the Red and White Sox side, that would constitute due diligence. But there's no real basis for arguing he's worth two years of prime Crochet all alone...not yet. Not without even a single MiLB at-bat to his name.

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
Now you have two Montgomery's to keep track of with the Sox...

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
The Yankees have (eventually) gotten Kahnle, Ian Hamilton, Cousins, Tim Hill and Keynan Middleton from the White Sox in recent years for little to nothing in return. Hard to believe Varland could be anything approaching a key piece to a possible deal.

When the f*** are we getting a new banner?
Aren't Cubs' fans up in arms about the lack of direction this offseason?

Winter Meetings Catch-all
"It’s for that reason Lin reports the club would seek “multiple controllable players,” including “one or more” starting pitchers. If San Diego were unable to secure enough rotation help from a Cease trade, Lin adds, then they would likely look to flip those players to land other (controllable) rotation pieces." It won't be until the trade deadline because the likelihood of a massive over pay right now isn't that high. There's no way Boras/Cease sign an early extension but they can't give up on the season this early. Do you really think Elias is suddenly going to give up Mayo or Basallo for Cease? And a catcher is less of a need for them, nor do they need a 3B...so Mayo would provide less surplus value at 1B.

Jacob Gonzalez all the way down to #15. Meidroth acquisition a direct shot across the bow as he profiled more as a 2B in terms of tools.

Winter Meetings Catch-all
No, no and no...Cease and King are the only truly reliable members of the SD rotation at this point in time. Although with their stll bloated payroll and Darvish on the books for 2025, they have to be all in for at least one more year before reassessing.

All but Montgomery should be in Charlotte or Birmingham at the very least... Teel, Meidroth and Gonzalez will likely all see time at the big league level in 2025. Teel was seen as pushing Wong for playing time in Boston as early as this year. Meidroth is closer to a finished product but with major concerns about his power/XBH upside. Montgomery will likely start out in Kannapolis (Low A) and then could move to Winston-Salem and possibly Birmingham by the end of the year, it all depends on his ankle injury recovery.

2005-2006 Red Sox Jon Papelbon Jon Lester Anibal Sanchez Hanley Ramirez Craig Hansen Manny Delcarmen Dustin Pedroia Kelly Shoppach Brandon Moss David Pauley David Murphy Luis Soto Jacoby Ellsbury Jed Lowrie Abe Alvarez Ryan Phillips Clay Buchhholz Maybe not in terms of rankings at the time, but that might be the very best MiLB system in recent memory in terms of actual big league production over time...

https://www.mlb.com/news/padres-land-10-on-top-100-prospects-list-c303185612 Padres also had ten on the Top 100 list heading into 2019...three playoff appearances, four series wins and lots of heartache as 2024 was likely their very best opportunity. This is also likely the end for the Guerrero Jr./Bichette-led Blue Jays that looked to be set up for a great run in the East.

Not really...because Robert Moncada Jimenez Kopech Giolito were expected to be All-Star or above talents. With the current crop, both Montgomery's and Smith/Schultz are the only really truly "exciting" or close to dynamic, franchise-trajectory altering prospects. Off the top of my head, the 2000 White Sox had to have had at least 8 or 9 Top 100 prospects. You had Jon Rauch in the Top 5-10, as well as Joe Borchard in that Top 10-15 range. Then you had a long list of pitching prospects like Jon Garland, Mark Buehrle (not a Top 100 by any stretch at that point), Jason Stumm, Rocky Biddle, Brian West, Lorenzo Barcelo, Matt Ginter, Josh Fogg, Aaron Myette...with Kip Wells already having graduated. Pretty sure Crede/Rowand had already graduated from the list as well, but it was VERY VERY pitching heavy. Mike Caruso debuted as well. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2000-organization-of-the-year-chicago-white-sox/ “The people who criticized us in 1997 were White Sox fans, not fans of any other teams,” Reinsdorf said after the Sox clinched this year’s title. “The only reason they criticized us was they thought we were doing the wrong thing. Those people today, I’m sure, are as happy as I am, and are happy that they were wrong. All White Sox fans can rejoice.” Sox fans certainly didn’t rejoice about the team’s payroll. Reinsdorf pointed to the poor attendance as a reason to ratchet down the payroll from $54.7 million at the start of 1997 to $24.5 million in ’99. The Sox increased that to about $31 million to start this season and $36.9 million by the end of the year. Top 40 Prospects (1999) Eric Chavez (3B, OAK) J.D. https://sports.yahoo.com/with-garrett-crochet-trade-red-sox-add-a-frontline-starter-and-white-sox-infuse-their-rebuild-with-prospects-224032039.html Really good write up here... Montgomery is arguably the co-headliner alongside Teel, and it would not be surprising if he emerges over the next calendar year as Chicago’s best position-player prospect. He appeared to be a consensus top-eight talent in the 2024 draft as a switch-hitting slugger out of Texas A&M, but he broke his ankle late in his junior season and ultimately fell to Boston at No. 12. He didn’t play after signing because of the injury, so now his pro debut will take place with a new organization. There are some questions about his overall hit tool, but Montgomery looks like a potential star right fielder on paper. This trade makes him one of the more intriguing players in minor-league baseball entering 2025, as he will look to make a strong first impression for a team that surely has sky-high expectations for him.

And now two of our Top 4-5 position and respects are catcher...with Quero unlikely to fit at 1B or DH with his offensive profile that's somewhat Narvaez reminiscent. But at least they finally have a legit outfield prospect and maybe they can turn around and trade Quero for a greater need down the line. If he flops offensively at the big league level...well, there's always attendance risk with Sox prospects. No different with Montgomery.

The biggest problem for the longer term future is the cost of keeping Gunnar Henderson in the fold. So four years left remaining in their window, theoretically.
