Sox looking at building in South Loop
caulfield12 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Except the Cubs and White Sox split of the city was closer to 50/50 back then. Now it must be something like 70/30....with a massive amount of apathy from that 30% after driving the rebuild into the ground. Lots of people probably speculating it would be better for the Cubs to mature into a superteam rather than splitting the city for corporate sponsorships, suites, season tickets, etc. Realistically the Cubs and Red Sox are pretty comparable and Boston is almost unable to compete in the AL East now...although at least 50% of that's on ownership. And Boston brought Epstein back to serve as a buffer to cushion the attacks from the fanbase. The White Sox don't have anything resembling an executive who built two organizations into WS winners from the bottom up and then established a period of sustained success. -
The biggest signing in the class, de Vrieze, ranked between #99 and #125ish overall by almost everyone. Just depends on that first year stateside performance.

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/mlb-jersey-controversy-cheap-looking-114214759.html And that brings us to the fans. When jersey dispatches trickled in from camps in Florida and Arizona, #DHGate began trending on social media. Less discerning shoppers might think that referred to J.D. Martinez remaining unsigned into late February. No, DHGate is an online shopping vendor that bills itself as a “Top-notch China Wholesale Marketplace.” And perhaps that’s not the association MLB, Nike and Fanatics imagined when they trotted these babies out.

I'm not even sure why Nashville would want the White Sox...unless their outlook dramatically improved. Back around 2001 when they threatened to contract the Twins, they were a competitive franchise playing in a terrible facility from every perspective but home field advantage in 1987-1991. About the best thing you could say is well executed Cease and Robert trades would put them on the cusp of a Top 5 farm system with a tremendous amount of financial flexibility. Won't use Hahn's "unprecedented" adjective...but easy to imagine Dave Stewart/TLR interests aligning with JR if Chicago stadium declared dead. -

Would hope for a lot closer to 2.25-2.5 million in attendance, certainly the first 3-5 seasons unless Getz, Boyer and Grifol are still in charge of things. -
And actually younger than 25...by a bit.

The Royals lost more games than the Sox this past season...and yet every one of their moves have been about competing THIS season rather than kicking the bucket down the road. https://www.mlb.com/news/john-schreiber-traded-to-royals

Colas has negligible value right now...although probably more so to other teams who think they can still work with him.

Bradfield isn't close to ready, so they need Mullins for at least 2024. They're not going to play Cowser in CF...they might even go to Mateo if those were the two choices.

What leverage does JR have? Taking the Bulls AND Sox elsewhere would be idiotic when the Bulls are such cash cow. He's really not even held accountable for winning or signing superstars in their prime. -
Better to trade vets one year early than one year too late. Rays-ing 101.

This is the Royals' current proposal...in comparison. "There are still unanswered questions remaining. The entire funding picture for the project remains a bit vague, with the team asking Jackson County taxpayers to extend the 3/8 cent sales tax another 40 years to raise about $350 million, the team pledging to pay the $1 billion costs of the ballpark district, and the remaining $650 million for ballpark funding unaccounted for." royalsreview.com -
Or their injury/risk tolerance meter (KW Riverboat Gambler) is not that high after the Hahn Risk Mitigation Era.

Pérez had a 3.15 ERA with 108 strikeouts in 91 1/3 innings over 19 starts in his first big league season at age 20 last year. Before the season, he was ranked as the #7 prospect in the game by Baseball America. The Royals have been reported to have engaged with the Marlins on trade talks several times in the last few months. Last summer, they reportedly discussed sending Salvador Perez to Miami, when the Marlins were run by GM Kim Ng. This off-season, after replacing Ng with Peter Bendix, the Marlins reportedly offered pitcher Jesús Luzardo to the Royals for Vinnie Pasquantino. https://www.royalsreview.com/2024/2/15/24074275/royals-discussed-bobby-witt-jr-trade-to-miami-last-summer-according-to-one-report -

There's a rift in the space-time continuum when Balta is unasbashedly optimistic and Dick Allen the opposite. Easy for all Sox fans to be cynical. Greg Hibbard (the Bulldog-esque poster) even became cynical the last couple of seasons. Disenchanted might be the better word. Apathetic. -
Sox inquired on Wilfred Cordero, but still imprisoned.

Or sign a KBO bounce back guy that's not Korean...
