None of this is relevant to today. Because the U.S. supported Hussein's regime in the 80's the U.S. should compound the problem by doing nothing today? If anything, it adds to the United States' responsibility to remove him. I realize you said nothing about the policy of the last few years, but it is an argument put forth by other peaceniks.

I will respond to this nonsense now before reading the next 8 pages. This is a ridiculous argument. Bill Clinton lied under oath...am I to now disregard anything any Democrat says as lies because Democrats in the past have lied? And how is anyone to make a point to you, Apu, if you immediately dismiss any point that contradicts yours, even from sources that were there, as lies because it doesn't fit your mantra that everything the U.S. military does is evil? s***, the military must have murdered Jimmy Hoffa...if they deny it, they're just a bunch of liars anyway and can't be trusted.

For the Hockey fans here

Dale Hunter levelling Pierre Turgeon with a check as Turgeon was celebrating a goal. Hunter was the dirtiest player I remember. He got 20 games or so for that cheap shot. -
I just heard the clip. OMG!!! Wow, tell us what you really think, Pat! LOL I don't think Foley displayed any lack of class. He's a broadcaster, that is what he is supposed to do, tell the fans about the team and the players. I certainly thought nothing of it when all the Mets media and announcers were talking about what a bum Alomar was when playing for the Mets. This kind of thing happens all the time.

There's no defense for what Bertuzzi did. You want to fight him? Pull on his jersey and tell him to drop the gloves. It was not his intention to fight Moore, it was to hurt him. And Moore's hit on Naslund was not dirty. Even as May said after the game of the Naslund hit, even if you hit our guys clean, we're going to get you. What the hell does that mean? What a bunch of crap. Bertuzzi should be gone for a full 80 games, but he won't be.

The last good album REM made was Green. After that they started playing light rock hits. Monster was OK but was almost cartoonishly rock. Nothing can beat Document.

Good luck to you, SS.

I don't have a problem with reminding America of 9/11 in a political ad. 9/11 happened, it's a factor in his presidency and points to his leadership qualities. What I do have a problem with is showing a flag-draped corpse being taken from the rubble. Whether or not we can see the person, that is still a person under there, presumably with a spouse, children, and people who love them and miss them. They shouldn't be used in such a way.

That is one f***ing great picture! Gives me goosebumps.

I guess I don't see why the next day being Easter should rule out having a wedding that day. Holy Saturday is always a great day for a wedding!

I missed the reference to Jesus stomping a living thing into the ground. What's that about?

When I said irrational, I didn't mean a raving lunatic or anything. My point is that CW has come out so strongly against this movie that I feel I must take everything he posts on it with a grain of salt. I think it is the same way when someone like Teddy Kennedy comes out with another attack on Bush, or if Limbaugh were to attack Clinton. You don't quite trust what they say because they are sooooo against the subject. While I don't believe that CW is lying, I feel he is slanted against the movie if for no other reason than he has been railing against this movie for so long and so vehemently and for so many reasons, many of them minor according to those who have seen it. I hate Keith Foulke. If I post every day about how he couldn't get me out in the bottom of the ninth, soon you will dismiss my points on Foulke, no matter how valid, because you know I hate him. That's what I was getting at. No offense was intended.
-
cw, you've made your point. For every review that pans it there is another that says it is the most powerful movie they've ever seen. Your crusade against this movie is only hurting your credibility, at least in my eyes. It definitely seems like you have an agenda and only Jesus Christ himself telling you he thinks the movie is worth watching will make you stop. Just a piece of friendly advice...you've pointed out the movie's flaws, now let it go. Your ravings against it almost come off as irrational.

Jesus, Apu! Are you 13 years old? Abortions for minors without consent should be OK because Mommy and Daddy may get mad? Parents are supposed to go "apes***" when their kids get arrested for underage drinking "and whatnot". It shouldn't be the duty of the authorities to help Jimmy and Joanie keep it from their parents when they are caught doing what they shouldn't.

You've helped make my point. GWB has nothing to do with NAFTA.
-
Why let facts get in the way of what some may consider a witty sign? Kind of like those campaign ads for Blair Hull that blames Bush for NAFTA, though the bill was signed in 1992 and went into effect on 1/1/94, during Clinton's administration. But hell, it must be Bush's fault!

Before this season, I would say to my wife every Wednesday morning, "Do you know what tonight is? It's West Wing night!". It was my one appointment viewing show. I have fallen out of the story line and I feel it's one of those shows you can't pick up midway through. Rob Lowe's speech about the spy and those who "gave the last full measure of devotion" gave me goosebumps. It's too bad it has fallen off.
-
That's fine. You're right, the only things I've seen or heard about the movie are the official ads, website, and the reviews. That and the 200 posts here on the movie. Hence my question. As far as the anti-Semitism, I haven't seen the movie yet, but from reports from people who have, it sounds like the Romans are the ones who come off as the real guilty party, and from those who know about the subject than me, that sounds like the way it should be.

There is nothing revealing in Ebert's review. He says it is a great, not anti-Semetic movie that happens to be the most violent movie he's ever seen. Certainly nothing contrary to what Kass said. "one thing that bothers me greatly is that this movie passes itself off as exactly from the Gospels" How does the movie do that? Who does that? The official movie website states that it is an ADAPTION of the four gospels. Adaption means based on the Gospels. The TV ads for the movie don't really say much of anything. I've seen Gibson say that it is the story as told in the Gospels. If it isn't exact it is because it is a movie and not a documentary. The movie Eight Men Out is based on the historical facts of the Black Sox Scandal, but being a movie and not a documentary, it takes liberties with words, time frame, and characters, and even actions.

I'm sorry, I must have missed something. When and where did Hawk trash Moronotti? I'd love to read that. Anyone have a link?

Does every infraction need to be handled with a suspension? Is there a school policy against women in swimsuits? Take the magazine away and tell him to put in his bag and bring it home. It isn't pornography. Anybody could go into a bookstore and buy one. There is no age minimum. Another example of a school board lacking any resemblance of common sense.

I don't think you need to be a hard-line Christian to believe that Jesus worked miracles. The basic foundation of Christianity is that Jesus was the Son of God, no? Being the Son of God, you cannot scientifically "prove" that he could not do anything. You cannot state scientifically and unequivocably that Jesus could not have walked on water or raised the dead. Why not? Because he was the Son of God. If Christians believe that He did the impossible by rising from the dead three days after being crucified, walking on water pales in comparison. If you want to talk about literary proof, I'll listen. I believe that Jesus was in fact born in Nazareth and early Christian writers had him born in Bethlehem to add weight to his being the Messiah. But that has nothing to do with what Jesus could or could not do, but with other people did. This isn't hard-line Christianity, just plain old Christianity.

Very good stuff. "Laughter" is good first song to last. I heard a bit of their stuff later than that album and wasn't nearly as good, but that album is a must listen, IMHO.

Jake Johannsen is/was a great stand-up. Steven Colbert is one of the funniest guys on TV. Anyone ever see Strangers With Candy on Comedy Central? Pure comic genius. Viva Variety with Thomas Lennon and Ian Michael Black, now on Ed, was also excellent comedy.
-
Great! I knew listening to Jim Ellison and the boys would help me out later in life! Here's a question for you Jim. Ever hear of The Mighty Lemon Drops? I may have asked you that before. I was searching around for my old tape of their Laughter album. One of my favorite records ever. Couldn't find the tape so I guess that gives me reason to find the CD online and order her up. It's a must check-out for you.
