man..thats a project...trying to access every team..since you are the resident expert on minor league can you give me 6 teams to start with???...3 that you think are better than the sox and 3 that are worse...then ill go to their teams boards..get fan reaction on what their take is and try to come up with some stats.. also..what about players that change systems??..for example would jon garland be a product of our farm system or the cubs???..aaron miles , ours or houston's??...if alex fernandez were to crack the line up in san diego who would get credit for him???..gotta give me more guildlines cause im a :dips*** ,

i remember when he was talking about an at bat a few years ago in SD..the pitcher walked him intentionally.. and garth took his lead he looked at the pitcher and the guy was laughing..garth said he said to himself that this guy is gonna pick me off and there is nothing i can do about it...sure enough...garth was picked off like carlos lee in detroit

if they cant figure out the problem do you think it might be a good idea to clean house and start over...keeping only the very best scouts and PD people???...if they can even figure who that might be.. i guess they could keep analyzing it but there comes a time where you get paralysis by analysis.. i agree something is wrong...our farm system has so far produced one everyday player thats solidified his postion since carlos lee..that being joe crede.. one thing that really still nags ay me..maybe you can answer this...we heard alot last year about d'angelo jimenez being a better prospect than soriano was when both were with the yankees..our scouts loved this guy (supposedly)...when he took the field last year i really cant think of a ball player that was more unprepared for playing major league baseball...the mistakes , both physical and mental , were so bad i dont any 16 inch softball team on the south side would have pick him up ..and the big thing was right before we made the trade his teammates in SD came out ripped him to shreds..saying he was such a spoiled brat(my take) that no one on the team would even talk to him...dont our scouts see any of this???..he has no business in the majors...he is so fundementally unsound...how could they not see that??? also leaves me absolutely no confidence in anything any of the sox personell say about willie harris..as bad as jimenez was...harris couldnt beat him out...thats freakin scary

ive done some research on this because i find it very interesting ( i hope no one finds that offensive )there are some questions you guys are not taking into account.. for example in basketball....why is that so many white players from the former yugoslavia and croatia (take into account how small their population is to ours) dont not play the game like most white guys from the states???(stand still jumpshooters or rebounders /defenders)...they can play creative basketball that requires running and jumping...there would be alot more tony kukoc / drazen petrovic type players from there if they didnt have a that nasty civil war... also , before 1950 and that scandal at CCNY about point shaving and throwing the college NIT tourney (which at the time was bigger than the NCAA tourney)..basketball was dominated by jews...i remember someone on a different site posting an article from back in the 40's asking the same question being asked about black players today and his theories about why jews dominated basketball...but it seemed like after that CCNY scandal jews participation in basketball almost immediately ceased to exist... any genetic or socio-economic theories about blacks being better athletes atleast in b-ball should include theories adressing these issues.. in football....the questions are not so much why are there so many black athletes but why do they dominate the "skill" positions...except the QB spot...i find it interesting that whites dont run the ball much anymore , or play cornerback ,but they still dominate the most skilled on the field (QB) and the most skilled on defense (mlb) is probably split pretty even...most offensive lineman are white..why is that??...you would think if the theories that lead to blacks being bigger , stronger and faster then for sure you shouldnt see a white guy on the offensive line...where size and strength matter most... what about soccer...this is a great case study on black and white athletes because the sport is played all over the world by countries with all white , all hispanic , all black and all kinds of mixes in between...do the all black countries dominate soccer???...well , brasil(mostly black - hispanic)..germany (white blonde and blue) and italy (right between germany and brasil) are all soccer powers ..and about as different in physical appearances as 3 countries could be...i dont think this is ever discussed in countries where soccer is the main sport...though i could be wrong on that i dont think right now there is not enough info to convince me 100% to any theory but the one im leaning towards and will until there is more info is discovered is alot of this is learned behavior... you can take basketball...white kids in the burbs learn basketball by joining leagues..they get coaches who dont let them put the ball on the court but teach them passing...3 passes before a shot..come off a screen to hit a jumper...black kid playing playground ball isnt being toaught how to pass the ball to a guy coming off a pick..he spends his time putting the ball on the ground taking it to the hoop...the mentailty thats developed from early is epotimized imo by that sinbad commercial from a few years ago..."charging..there's no charging in streetball...you try and take a charge youre gonna get a size 12 in your chest"...i think that mentality really serves a basketball player better because when he gets to college he has been developing his body to drive to the hoop and use his hopes...any coach can teach the passing game..but i think its a lot harder to take a stand still jump shooter and make him a dribble drive type player... football i know is because of predjudice of coaches(atleast alot of it)...thats why for years blacks couldnt QB...that stereotype is finally being broken but new have taken its place..mainly whites can play corner or running back...in the high scool all american game this year.. a white tb from new jersey rushed for 1300 yards or so this year..22 td's , 9 ypc ..he is 240 lbs and runs a 4.6 ,40...i saw one carry where he met a LB in the hole and just leveled him..the LB went limp he got hit so hard..the kid about 7 yards...then the annoucers says whatever college he was going to (i forget) already said he is moving to MLB...this kid is built like jerome bettis...if he was black he would not be being moved to LB.....gotta wonder about urlacher...260 and runs a 4.5 40 , why wasnt he a RB???...youre telling me he couldnt have been a great RB in the WAC or wherever new mexico is now??..he is probably the closest athlete to jerome bettis in the NFL skill wise... for the economic side to be accurate..that blacks , because of being disadvantaged financially have more desire to make then it should hold true for white athletes..that most white athletes that make it come from poorer backgrounds ( or as we suburbanites like to call them , trailer park trash) ..i havent studied that part of the equation enough to say for sure but i tend to think white kids that make come from more privledge backgrounds..so we have the opposite dynamic in play there.. i tend to think its more socio -economic than genetic myself sorry bout the length

so if clinton was VP and something happened to kerry (if they somehow manged to actually get elected ) then clinton could be president for 2 years and if his term wasnt up , then his VP would take over the remainder of the term???? i got that right???

i was joking about the garth thingy but i feel bad for mike...he was really the only starter in '00 to show up all year long...he was awesome that year
-
i agree on ozzie...of course ozzie wasnt exactly patient at the dish either i agree on our scouts...our picks just dont pan out at the rate they should

pretty much sealed the fate of sirotka

i dont know if its still out there but its been reported for some time now that an offer was on the table that was substantially more than the 250 million that forbes estimates the sox worth.. as for reinsdorf selling , well it depends on the new owners agenda...i always look back to the debartolo family and them getting blackballed by the other owners..his plan was to move the sox to denver....i know we have this lease but there has to be some kind of buy out clause in it...

doesnt that mean that the meager numbers uribe put up in colorado were inflated too??...thats the part of uribe's game that really scares me..he couldnt carry at 300 OBP in colorado...we could be looking at a 200 hitter with a 240 obp..

actually his answer to HSC was that we didnt have a back up SS in case jose went down and that eventhough we liked miles , he cant play SS and we needed a utility guy that can play both 2nd and SS...which i though was a good answer for her questionthen he went about how we just see things different about miles then ozzie jumped in asking if anyone ever saw uribe play SS because he is a stud defensively... i just wish we were talking about willie harris going to colorado instead of aaron miles....but miles is said to have the inside track for 2nd base in colorado so ill guess we will find out who was right..HSC or KW...ill go with HSC..call it woman's intuition or whatever but she seems to have a knack for figuring out who inthe minors can really play...myself...i really liked miles because he is a real hard nose kid who at 5'6" had to fight and claw to get to this level because when you are that small right away you are behind the 8 ball....he seems to have exactly what ozzie and kenny are saying they want in a player...that grinder mentality...i dont see that so much in harris so i thought it odd it was miles and not harris that went to colorado..maybe colorado would only make the deal if it was miles... but really both harris and miles might never make and then uribe , if he's not a royce clayton clone , which i dont think he is because his range factor numbers are through the roof , this could end up in the KW winner column..and he needs some wins...

jim , one more thing..i think the papers made that out to be alot worse than it really was...the sun times said that when ozzie said his favorite player was frank half the crowd cheered and the other half booed...that wasnt the case..i think about 90% cheered ozzie for that..that was the most positive part of the Q and A..there were people that got up and defended KW...it was about 2 to 1 against him but it wasnt 2500 people wanting to hunt him down with pitchforks and torches like the papers made it sound... KW probably gets a 7 digit salary...i think he can handle fans that are beyond frustrated for 2 days because they and their families have been pouring money into this franchise for generations and for 90% of the time see a mediocre product at best and never see the promised land...he should be thnakful that this teams has fans that are frustrated....because when we get beyond frustrated we will quit coming out all together and spend more time on the golf course or something...
-
jim i think he was an ass for getting personal..especially with that one guy..telling him yeah thats nice now whats your question..all the guy was saying was he was a college kid on a budget and spent what disposable income he has on the sox...that was uncalled for..dont you agree???...or the part about if thats your question im gonna rip on you???... why cant KW admit he made a mistake???...i just did it..its not a sign of weakness....you cant improve if youre not willing to admit failure and he never does...so he is going to be prone to making the same mistakes over and over... if i could see some growth in the guy as a GM and a person ill start to change my tune because i really dont want to have to go through another learning curve with a rookie GM,...which is what we'd get...but if KW cant improve then we might as well get started..
-
i already answered that jim...i messed it up..said i needed to work on my public speaking skills..your right ,i was nervous...unlike a certain GM...i can admit when i screwed up...but the girl did take the mic away from me...and looking at it from your POV your are probably right , because i didnt get to my point in time..ill have to work on that for next year

one more thing.. i just remembered this...... this is interesting...when we sat down for the session there was a podium with a microphone from the previous session (i think that was the 20 game winner session)....after that one ended they took the podium away...i was with HSC and we were talking about maybe they arnt gonna do the Q and A...then like i said earlier for the Q and A they had the girl holding the mic..next session i believe the podium was back.. so they new what was coming...that was an attempt to control the questions..it worked until steph had enough of it had i been thinking ..i should have picked up on what was happening cause looking back on it , HSC , spoke right before me and they did the same to her...i did get out if he felt his job was in jeapordy but i feel like i let you guys down by not getting to my main question..i was trying to ask him in a way that didnt sound like i was a raving lunatic and messed it up...sorry about that...have to work on my public speaking skills..
-
kw was an ass, jim , they were taking the microphone away from people when they were asking stuff that got too negative..kenny told that one guy ...yeah , thats nice , now whats your qustion....he said to another guy ..that better not be your question because if it is im go come out firing at you....hawk had to jump in and stop kenny after that buy saying i think alot of this negativety comes from one sports writer , if i can call him that and went on to blast marriotti...trying to get the crowd back on their side..ozzie handled himself real well...even told kenny once after kenny said willie harris is our 2nd baseman that willie will play if he hits...ozzie took all the negativity in stride...even rick hahn did this year as opposed to last year when he wasd the one shooting daggers out of his eyes at cwsox ..remember that cw?? all KW had to do was say something like this , atleast this what i was looking for...... i made mistakes in the past..i acknowledge those...i was a young GM , i had to learn on the fly...as you can tell from this year my strategy is different...im not trying to make one blockbuster trade just to make one that ends up hurting the team..i had similiar type offers on the table this year but learning from my past mistakes i believe that none of those offers were good for the white sox team so we didnt make them this year..when the time is right and i can get the trade that will help this tean i will make it...ive learned from my mistakes and i hope you'll get behind me and those 25 guys on the field and support us... if he said something that like the whole mood would have changed..he would have probably gotten a standing O from the crowd..he would have gotten one from me...instead he is acting in disbelief..like how dare these fans question...thats why the questions got worse and worse as the session went on..
-
jim..you dont have the whole story.....i said you took over a team that won 95 games with a 30 milion dollar payroll and the number 1 farm system..the team has underachieved every eyar under your watch..do you feel a sense of urgency because if we cant win this division , the weakest in baseball this year , then i feel your job is in jeapordy...at that point i was going to say.. i would expect you to resign but when i said your job is in jeapordy kenny droped his mic in his lap and turned saking his head,,,the crowd went "oooohhh" and the young lady holding the microphone walked away from me so i couldnt say anymore.. last year they had a podium up there..this year a girl was holding a microphone for us..she did the same thing to a few other fans who were getting real negative..obviously they were expecting it to turn sour so and probably instructed that girl to do that if the questions got what they felt were too out of line ask steph..from where i was sitting they tried to do the to steph but she was thinking on her feet real quick and grabbed the girl's hand with he mic and said im not finished...

im sure thats just the endorsement the atkins dude was looking for :puke

i dont believe this rumorat all but for arguements sake if it does go down getting washburn is plus..thats the guy id want..another lefty with buehrle in the rotation that can eat up quality innings helps soften the loss of colon...erstad for valentin at this point in both guys career is probably a wash...ive been a huge erstad fan..unfortunately we needed him 3 years ago..

Buffs alledgedly recruited by Sex Parties
baggio202 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
this is nothing..HBO did a special on recruiting...university of oregon gives college credit to girls to act as escorts for possible recruits...i cant remember the name of the class but its taught by an asst coach on the football team...2 girls came out in the HBO special because they didnt want to go all the way with these recruits..and since we were talking alot lately about homosexuality and sports...the class consists of 55 girls and 2 guys.. the same thing goes on at university of arizona...the school newspaper did an article on it blasting the administration..the headline in the paper was "HOES FOR BROS" when you think about it...how bad have things gotten at colleges these days when the students are the conservatives and the admin are the liberals??? -
i looked at his numbers down on the farm..the guy sure made a lot of contact...only 19 k's in 242 at bats...one thing , he was 18 for 31 in sb's....thats a very bad pct...if he is gonna lead off for us he is probably not going to be much of a SB threat (this is in the maggs is traded and we have no one else scenario) we seem to hype our prospects way too much..remember corwin malone??...2 years ago many had him a cy young winner by this time...the fact is , very few of chisox prospects become even just plain old everyday players...since carlos lee back in 99 only joe crede has solidified a position coming up from the minors...if reed hits 230 in april at charlotte he'll drop off the radar...i guess you can say buehrle too but he really wasnt a prospect..he was a 38th round draft choice that came out of no where...that was pure luck
