I don't think Maggs is worth 14 million a year either. But I can't help but think about something. If Maggs hopped after every home run, ran out to right field at full speed, made stupid hand gestures in the dugout, constantly talked to reporters and made jokes all the time, and starred in Pepsi and McDonalds commercials, would we view his worth differently? In other words, Maggs isn't a "moth" like Shammy Sosa - always looking for the lights and cameras. If Maggs was more outgoing, vocal, and "fun," would we view him differently? Would we think he was worth 14 million if he had Shammy's personality?

He starts to tire in after 90-100 pitches. Man Perfect for a Manuel Managed team..

LOL! I'm a Big Ten guy, and Kirk Ferentz is a great coach - however, I still miss Hayden Fry.

A quick scouting report on Escobar from ESPN/Stats, Inc. : He throws a two-seam and four-seam fastball (93-97 MPH), a splitter at 88 MPH and a curve in the mid-80s. Last season, he added an 88-90 MPH cutter. Can be dominant at times. However, concentration continues to be Escobar's greatest challenge. He tends to lapse into mechanical faults in the midst of an outing, leading to a sudden and frustrating loss of control. What results is the base on balls, and all too often a home run. That said, he did show signs of overcoming a nasty habit of slowing his pace with runners aboard. Escobar is very quick off the mound. He gets to batted balls easily and covers first base well. His move to first is above average, which helps him to keep runners honest. He starts to tire after 90-100 pitches.

There are people - logistic experts - who analyze "this and that" for companies and organizations. They always tell you to choose light blue as a primary color because it's "calming" and has a "cooling" effect on people. I don't even know what that means exactly, but that's what I've learned in the business world. Plus, we might need a "calming" and "cooling" effect if the team stinks it up next season.

LMAO!! Even dead, Girardi could hit better than the two stiffs they trotted out in the playoffs - the same stiffs that cost them the series, IMO. They blew countless opportunities with RISP cause of their anemic and dead bottom 3rd of the order. Too bad AJ Pierzynski is gone, ain't it. BWAHAHAHAHA! Losers.
-
That's all that's changed.
-
I only missed you because you are "BEASTLY." Other than that, I could give a s***.
-
I don't. They don't give a s*** as long as "The World's Largest Singles Bar" is alive and hopping with overpaying morons. They had a chance at AJ Pierzynski - and they wouldn't ante up. All they had to do was up the stakes just slightly, and they wouldn't do it. They have so much pitching in their minor league system it's a crime. But they wouldn't part with even another marginal prospect. So good for them. Losers. I don't actually care about them one way or another. Actually - I do. I want them fall flat on their face. They will be a 3rd place has-been by August 2nd, you heard it here first. Wood will blow out his elbow, Prior will be haunted by the unforgiveable failures of the NLCS, Clement will continue to be a .500 putz, Zambrano will hurt his overthrowing arm, and their offense sucked for the most part - and will be even worse next year. I am going to flush the toilet downstairs just to watch the Cubs chances flow down the little hole. :fthecubs

But who will take that contract on? Who? Damn it - if only Ed Lynch was still the Cubs GM. Ho hum.
-
Yasny, I knew that when I was 14 years old, and nothing has changed. Once again, I was 14. A stupid, horny, confused dork with acne. Yet, I still knew that the Sox owner was a tool. Nothing changes except the time we've realized it.
-
They need a 3B? Well, Jose played a year at 3B, and his numbers were sad, but better than anything they've trotted out there since Mike Blowers. Just a thought!
-
With the money they throw around, they would settle for an aged superstar who is on his last legs, and in the twilight of his talent? No way He would be perfect for the cheapass Cubs, however!
-
I have a better chance of flying than the Sox do of re-signing "El Blimpo."
-
I would be happy trading Konerko for a bucket of urine, as long as the other team paid his undeserved and ridiculous salary. I really hope we unload that base-clogging albatross this offseason. If Kenny can pull that off, the offseason is already somewhat of a success.
-
Ozzie has expressed that he wants Maggs back, so maybe that eventually leads to Lee being moved. Just a thought. We can't afford both.
-
I don't get it. B)
-
why would we want Piazza? One reason: Four slow right-handed hitters aren't enough. We need five. LMAO!! Post of the week! As for Gammons, I'm glad to see he's become more popular now that the US Treasury has colored his portrait on the $20 bill. I don't take any of his rumors seriously, I mean the guy is right about 10% of the time, and that's just because eventually a blind dog finds an ass to sniff.
-
This is kind of a "blah" move. Nothing to get excited about, but nothing to get angry about either. He's just here to catch once a week and tutor Olivo. I hope Kenny has more than this in store for us in terms of "offseason moves."
-
I still think he'll be a huge asset to the Sox. Like I said, he's Karkovice with actual hitting ability. Plus, he's cheap and he's ours for another 5 years. We need not worry about him at all. For those of you who don't remember Ron Karkovice, here's a photo of him after he hit a home run to win a game against the Indians :

It's the Cubs. They won't pay anyone worth a s***. Why bother? They're set for the next 20 years. They made it to the NLCS, pissed it away as usual, and now all the lemmings can't wait to overpay to sit in the "Shrine" and watch Corky The Steroid Boy swing aimlessly at outside-corner breaking balls. They won't do much in the offseason except raise ticket prices and sign some old relics on their last legs, or some broken-down reclamation projects coming off of serious injuries. Once the Cubs, always the Cubs. "Almost a century of futility, and still counting!" :fthecubs

If Kenny and Ozzie sit down and discuss the finances of the team, and Ozzie tells Kenny he wants Maggs back, and Kenny actually listens instead of picking ear wax out of his ear with a pen cap, then expect Carlos Lee to be traded. We can't afford Lee and Ordonez. It's not possible. It is possible for 24 major league teams, but not the small-market Sox. We are poor, or did you forget that?
-
Miguel will learn. Will he ever hit. 300? Doubtful. But he will hit in the .280's someday, hit with a little power (12-18 HR a year), and throw out anyone stupid enough to test his arm. Look at it this way - he's Ron Karkovice with a nicer face and an actual ability to hit the baseball.
-
I wouldn't mind him in CF at all, however, two things come to mind: 1. He still holds a grudge toward the Sox. 2. He will cost too much, and we're searching the couch cushions for pennies as it is for payroll money. Plus, his OPS is borderline.
-
No way would Schilling ever pitch for the Sox. Not because he hates Chicago, but as stated in other posts, he hates Reinsdorf. Join the club, pal.
