Not that I know a lot about Brazilian soccer, but Corinthians is one of the, if not the most famous team in Brazil.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 05:07 AM) They tend to play to their competition. They probably wont beat SC but I bet they give them a game. It seems like ND seems to play to their competition because so far their competition has been mediocre across the board. Notre Dame is actually just as good as these mediocre teams as well. USC wins no problem. -

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 11:43 PM) They are a much different team away from Norman. It's strange. I think it's pretty clear that Florida and Alabama are the best two teams in the nation(again?). Yeah, but Miami has been a different team away from home too. Florida State is pretty bad and a supposed top 15 team in Miami really should have lost that game, ehh. It will even out. It's pretty easy to say anyone outside the top 15, maybe even a couple in it, aren't good. A lot of teams with bad marks on their resume already. -

Really don't understand why there is a running into the kicker as well as roughing. If you hit him it should be 15, end of story. No judgment calls from the refs. Anyway, I still think Miami is barely a top 20 team. OU just isn't that good this year, it's really shocking. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) Washington sucks. When you get like 50 plays from the one and can't score, you deserve to lose. I rarely see you post in this thread. Funny that ND brought it out of you. I feel your pain though. At first I was thinking Weis won't get fired with an 8-4 season, which is good because he's awful, but now it's downright annoying. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 06:34 PM) Also, that was clearly a helmet to helmet penalty on the last play, but Washington deserved to lose that game. Yeah, I was disappointed that NBC decided to show Notre Dame's fight song instead of telling us if the guy was ok. He was dead stiff after that hit. -
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 12:03 AM) That's not as dumb as trading another starter. Who said they were going to do that?
-
I wouldn't take Sanchez for our 5th starter spot. He's simply not good. He walks the world. I think that would be wasting Konerko.
-
The funny part is that they thought 74 wins would finish last place in a 5 team division. The exaggerated records were biased enough, but slapping last place on the end of it isn't even trying to cover it up. Yes, I realize it happened last year, but that's rare.

Kannapolis pitching staff emblematic of Sox system improvement

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 07:37 PM) You're just considered a guest writer? Until I create an account for him on FS, lol. I took that out, upon seeing it again it sounds bad. Sorry NSS. -
Semi-disaster struck. 3-0 loss to South Korea. Got help from Germany and beat out Cameroon for 3rd so there is still a slim shot that they can get through, but I'm not sure I want to see this team play again.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) Nice. Any other Kanny questions yet? Nothing. I asked one about Mitchell, but haven't seen it. The chat is still going which is pretty impressive.
-
There was a Hudson question in chat. Matt Forman said he needed 46.1 innings to qualify for SAL consideration. That would have him eligible for AA and just missing the cut for High-A, though he said he would be in the Carolina League. Also said Hudson would be in consideration for top 3.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 02:24 AM) Are all these presentations so cheesy? Yeah this is awful. I laughed when the one guy started his speech "Legacy is defined as..." That's junior high caliber class president speech.

How do you compare Leesman to another groundball guy in Sauer? Better K rate, much better BB rate, slightly better groundball rate. Granted, Sauer turned 23 in August, so you wonder how much better he can get. He's also not a lefty which makes a big difference, but Leesman is a guy you had in your top 15 rankings in the postseason list and Sauer outside the top 30.
-
Strikeouts may not be a priority for him because he's a groundball pitcher, but I'm still concerned about his walks. We are talking about a 22 year-old that has a long way to go with his control to be a Major League starter. Granted, he has a few years, but I don't see him as a top tier pitching prospect, even in our system. The Sox don't have a lot of lefties so, yes, he is arguably the best lefty pitching prospect in the system.
-
Marginal may have been harsh, but I'm not buying into Leesman yet. His peripherals may be better, but they certainly aren't good yet.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) Actually, if I were to put my money where my mouth was, I could write a seperate FS piece specifically on that. Go for it. We have a long offseason to fill up.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 07:41 AM) I don't agree - Kanny had a phenomenal pitching staff this year, and to me that is worth mentioning. Look up and down at the pitchers who were on Kanny's opening day roster, and see how their seasons went - guys like Hudson, Leesman, Infante (though he faded), Jones, Sauer, Dex Carter, Remenowsky, Burdie, Corley, O'Neill... then picked up Bellamy, Serafin and Griffith later... that pitching is what got Kanny to their postseason berth, and that is a lot of talent there. Hudson I mentioned. I wanted to avoid 09 draft picks (no Serafin or Bellamy). Infante's 2nd half took him off a mention. Jones and Griffin I admit were close, but I didn't want to have the piece be too long. Leesman had a mediocre 2:1 K:BB ratio as a 22 year-old in Low-A. He's marginal right now. Carter got traded away so he's hardly a highlight. I like Sauer and a few of the relievers you mentioned, but it's a wait and see approach. The only guy I thought about mentioning and really should have is Remenowsky because his stats are eye popping. For the most part though, I didn't want to write about a dozen guys and lose everyone's interest half way in.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 09:32 PM) Were their really no highlights below AA ball? Outside of Morel that is. Honestly, not that many. Nathan Jones showing some control, but seeing his K rate turn mediocre at Winston-Salem. I thought about mentioning Griffin just because he was healthy, but he's not the same yet. I could have mentioned Bellamy's dominance, but I was trying to focus on guys not drafted in 2009.

USA beat Cameroon 4-1 at the U-20 World Cup today. The goal differential was huge because they now sit 2nd in the group, ahead of Cameroon on GD by 1. South Korea is the last game. The US is pretty safe to get through to the next round barring a semi-disaster, since 4 of the 6 3rd place teams move on. This US team doesn't have anywhere near the talent of the '07 team that had Jozy, Adu and several others I think will have strong careers for the national team, but maybe they can make a little noise.
-
Someone asked about there being no Voyagers on the list and the response was that Colligan was discussed, but Collop was the closest. It's not a big surprise because GF has the older draft talent and this year the top picks went to Bristol or Kanny.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 26, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) Great news for Mr. Egbert. Hopefully he gets an opportunity with the Mets. I'm actually a little bit surprised Whisler didn't get claimed since he's a lefty and has some control. He'll probably be in another organization come ST also if he's a MiLB FA. DRod and Fernando Hernandez are probably the next to go and those guys should also find a team to compete for next spring. Agree on all fronts. Is it just me or do the Sox have more marginal value or possible MLB talent MiLB free agent/Rule V eligible guys than normal?

It's too weird for my taste. It's like watching a pedophile ask for boys to call him up or something.
