QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 21, 2009 -> 11:14 AM) He's a worse offensive version of Nick Swisher. I understand you hate Swisher, but near-Swisher numbers at 2B would be spectacular. This argument is pretty hopeless. Getz projected as a utility guy in the minors and did nothing to prove otherwise last year. I'm not going to defend Nix, but I have a hard time watching Getz this year and thinking MLB caliber starter.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Oct 17, 2009 -> 11:38 PM) Oh man Mizzou misses Chase Daniel. Gabbert has a cannon for an arm, but no idea where it's going. That was true tonight and last week, but in the rain no one could move the ball and tonight he was completely immobile. Watch the Illinois or Nevada and his accuracy is certainly there. It's not Chase Daniel, but let's be honest very few are as accurate as he is with passes of 20 or less. Gabbert has the pro tools and it was really painful to watch this game. Regardless of Gabbert's struggles, they had their chances. Outgain Ok State by almost 100 yards in the 1st half and trail by 7. It was a rough game, but these types were expected in the preseason. It's a young team that has the talent to be a top 20 team, but not the experience across the board yet. -

The refs tried so hard to get ND to win. This is why people hate them. I'm so glad Weis is their coach. He is going to continue to be mediocre and Notre Dame will remain irrelevant. -

I can't keep up with all the games right now. I'm enjoying Nebraska's 300 straight sell out fans boo their team mercilessly. There is no place for booing your own team. That's awful. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 17, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) Stanzi is a pretty good college QB and will play in the NFL but a success in the NFL, not going to happen. Stanzi? Really? Iowa's success is almost entirely because they have a ridiculous defense. Stanzi as a pro? Yeesh. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2009 -> 01:25 PM) Its all on the coaching staff and the QB coach who has ZERO experience developing QB's when the #1 recruit in the country was better as a freshman. What do you think about the FG there? I was thinking a for sure go for it situation. -

I think Cincy would handle themselves. Once everyone loses a game (because that always happens) it won't be a discussion, but if Cincy is the only undefeated it would be absurd to keep them out of the title game. -
You mean if Beasley would be allowed to play his natural position instead of defender?
-
Maurice Edu will be back months before the World Cup. If Clark and Torres are in your rotation, a 100% Edu would certainly be a factor.

QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 04:05 AM) where can i listen or watch these games on the internet ? MLB.com has gamecasts of the games. For example, here's Game 4. Danks and Viciedo both with 1st inning RBI doubles. Both later scored as well.

Before Pike's first half injury, I was really impressed with Cincy. If Pike can get back to 100% I wouldn't be surprised to see them win a BCS game by a bigger than expected margin. -
I like Rogers too. I wouldn't mind seeing Dempsey and Rogers at the wings behind Jozy. Something of a 4-2-1-2-1. 4 defenders, 2 defensive minded mids (Edu and Bradley), Donovan at attacking mid, 2 wingers and Jozy up top. It would depend on how well the team could execute that and I doubt Bradley would even go that offensive, but that's my first look tactic right now.

I only got 14. Not my best work, I couldn't think of Mark Johnson's name. I could picture his face and everything too. I love sporcle. I spend way too much time there.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 11:51 PM) So now that the U.S have qualified, how far do you see them going in South Africa next year? Can they get out of the group stages and into the 16? If Davies is back and they get an average or better draw, sure. Without him, they are going to need some luck. Their forward depth is awful, but with Jozy and Davies at least they had 2 solid guys. Now, they have one and Conor Casey starting. Eww. I don't think of Onyewu as a major loss, but he is expected to be back anyway. I'm on the fence, I'll have a better guess when the groups come out.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) For example, there's a discussion about Sergio Santos and Justin Cassel in the AFL thread. Even though Sergio Santos is not considered a prospect anymore while Cassel is People think of Cassel as a prospect? Fringe at best. No one put him in their top 30. That's an extreme example. -

I wouldn't trade Danks or Floyd for Upton straight up. Why would you? -
High 80s fastballs for both Cassel and Long. Wasn't Long supposed to throw harder than that when the Sox drafted him?

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Oct 10, 2009 -> 04:54 PM) Big props to Crompton today for finally playing like a real SEC QB. Over 300 yards and 4 TDs? Yes! I don't think you want your QB to play like a real SEC QB. That usually is a pretty bad thing. -
FutureSox Post-Season Top Prospects List

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) Agreed, i don't understand the inclusion of some of the older AAAA players, over guys like Holmberg and S-Rod. What i got from the intro to the article was that this was a combo of various opinions from a panel. So, it's possible that Santos and Holmberg did recieve votes just not enought to warrant a spot on the top 25. It's understandable, but i don't really agree with it. Rodriguez has a long way to go, but I agree on Holmberg. Still, it's really hard to put him in the top 20 unless you are ranking completely on upside. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) I don't think anyone is going to LOVE this list simply because there are so many players to choose from when you get outside of our top 6-8 or so. Personally I'm most surprised about Miguel Gonzalez missing this list after the season he had as a rookie catching prospect. I understand it because we don't know a ton about him yet, but it's just kind of odd because 18-year-old catchers who hit the baseball open eyes very quickly. There are a lot of players capable of making big leaps up the rankings over 2009, like Morel and Retherford did this year, and Gonzalez is one of those guys. I agree about Gonzalez, he showed a lot of rare abilities for such a young age. What you said about rankings is really the "problem" with this list. If you read John Sickels, he ranks 20 for every team and says after a certain number (usually around 10 depending on the system) the players are pretty much in a group of up to 20 or so that are interchangable. Different people and different likes and dislikes and it comes out looking kinda weird in a mix like this. -

QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 08:08 AM) and sweet. Sounds like a sundae So angry about that game. The weather made it a totally different game. It was so harsh to be in that, but when Mizzou was owning Nebraska's offense it was great. Such a horrible way to play football. Hard to evaluate either team from that. -

I stumbled upon an old BA article (well a month old) for subscribers talking about a virtual AA championship between the Barons and the Akron Aeros. Those with a subscription can check it out here. Basically, the Barons media relations guy was tracking best records in the minors and realized it was the Barons and Akros for a while as the top 2. Through whatifsports.com they had a virtual best of 7 series. The rosters were any player other than rehabs that played for the team at any part of the season. If you search barons on whatifsports.com you will find the box score and PBP for the whole series. It's a neat idea. For a spoiler, the Barons win in 7 and Dan Hudson takes a no-hitter into the 9th, losing it on a groundball with one out. -

Somewhat old news, but MLB is making a junior AFL type league. Sounds like it will happen in 2010 if they can finalize the details in time. This year 8 teams have put together an informal version, the White Sox are one. Here is a video explaining the situation.
