  1. Injuries aside McCarthy would be a safe bet to stick in the Majors, but you're right. I was trying to compare other than that.
  2. How Good Has Hudson Been This Season? Dan Hudson has been the buzz of the White Sox minor leagues since Gordon Beckham earned his promotion to the White Sox. He started the season in Low-A Kannapolis and is currently pitching for the AAA Charlotte Knights. He has pitched in four levels this season, a mostly unheard of feat. So the question this brings up is how does Hudson’s stellar 2009 stack up against previous pitching prospects in the White Sox system that had torrid campaigns? -------- I compared Hudson to Gio, DLS, Rauch and BMac. Anyone I missed? What else do you think? P.S. Soxace: I was going to send you the link, fresh off the "presses," but you signed off a minute before I was finished. Way to bail man.
  3. I don't see what having the draft in the offseason does for anyone. It eliminates rookie ball, takes a couple months of development time from players and really doesn't benefit anyone. Plus, it's in the offseason for 90%+ of players anyway. The college season is done other than the CWS and high school seasons are over or finishing around then anyway.
  4. Someone should tell me what has gotten into Escobar. He is killing the ball this month after showing no signs of life all season.
  5. Blah, I get beat again. Fields continue to rake in AAA. At least he can do that. Harrell with a goofy stat line: 5 IP, 1 R but 7 BB. Williams 3-5 with a HR, he's hot in August, but he did have a CS and a PO.
  6. Sure seems like every time a new coach is hired after a firing the PR machine goes into effect in regards to how bad the previous coach was. It may seem subtle, but it's really not. The timing is unusual now, but I don't think this type of talk is all that uncommon. It's always about "changing the atmosphere."
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) How can it be racist if that race you are supposedly offending (Seminole) is involved and completely supports it? Each Native American tribe is different, they have the right to say how people can use their name. Yeah, the Seminole situation is completely different.
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 11:36 PM) But speaking of Bristol.. Jeffer Patino with a 5-5 night. I don't care how old/young or what level your at, that's always impressive. Kid looks like he has good disipline too. Yeah, he went 5-5 to raise his average to .183. Everyone has their day...
  9. Charlotte @ Durham Egbert got rocked, couldn't find the zone. Bham PPD. Potomac @ Winston-Salem Edwards with a decent start. Lexington @ Kannapolis Escobar 3-3 with a HR. He's actually scorching hot in August, including a damn good walk rate. Go figure. Leesman also decent. Idaho Falls @ Great Falls Bristol @ Princeton
  10. I'm surprised so many people are hating on Scrubs. It's been a great show.
  11. QUOTE (SockMe @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) Illinois will win the B10 this year Clearly, sarcasm at its finest.
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) Brent Morel is really making my penis hard. Nice to see Gilmore have a nice night. Phegley continues to hit during August. Remenowsky.. still ridiculous. WTF. Talk about taking prospect love too far.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) My apologies then. It came across to me at least as a quick little jab. Regardless of that being a jab, he's thrown them before. Don't apologize for taking a stand.
  14. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:58 PM) I have no idea why a guy with a 1.028 OPS is still in Bristol. They are 15 games out of first. I would hope the sox brass would make room for him somewhere in a promotion. There's not long left in the minor league season. It's not really worth it.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 02:01 AM) Or I was clearly making a joke about a guy who has clearly sucked all year, and really don't care what he did two years ago in AAA. That's fine. I just cringe when I see 2 word posts.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 09:17 PM) So what. It's not a sign that he is going to hit in the Majors, it just means you are incorrect to think the guy can't hit AAA pitching.
  17. ESPN2 will have that Chelsea/Hull game. They bought out Fox Soccer Channel for Premier League rights on Friday and are showing the game Saturday. They already had the UK deal, but now they are able to show the games in the US.
  18. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 11:37 PM) The Royals just splashed out $2m on third rounder Will Myers, only a day after signing Chris Dwyer for a 4th round record $1.45m. I saw that, what in the world? The Royals gave their 3rd rounder top 10 money and their 4th rounder top 20 money. Seems like they overpaid.
  19. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) he has a .706 OPS at double A. Yes he's only 20, but exactly what part of his game suggests big league callup during a division race right now? IMO there isn't a guy more overrated in our system than Viciedo If he started the year in Winston-Salem and put up an 800something OPS people wouldn't be calling him overrated. He was too aggressively assigned, but he has adjusted and currently belongs in AA. If you take away his putrid April, he is hitting .288 with a .407 slugging. Not great, but certainly he belongs at the level and he's only 20.
  20. Very cool. I might have referenced an OC Register article previously in regards to Thompson. I know I quoted the LA Times article. Either way, they probably saw us through that or google news.
  21. Cunningham will probably be a mediocre Major Leaguer and it's going to be very hard for Carter to outperform Quentin. Quentin has already been an MVP candidate so Carter would have to be above average for multiple years to start a comparison to that season alone. Plus Carlos has looked a lot better in the last couple weeks so I think he is returning to form. Quentin when healthy is going to be much better than Carter.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) USA has two at home, two on the road 09/05 vs. El Salvador in Salt Lake 09/09 at Trinidad & Tobago 10/10 at Honduras 10/14 vs. Costa Rica in Washington DC I'll be pretty shocked if the US doesn't win 3 from that group of games. Not worried.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 09:08 PM) Or his crazy high BABIP earlier in the year has caught up to him? Part that, part Regions Park. His H/A splits are pretty defined. .688 OPS at home, .808 on the road. He's very unknown right now.
  24. The US overall played better than to lose, but it's always frustrating to lose to Mexico when they were completely classless when it was tied late.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) Not surprisingly we also got two cards in the first half. Onyewu will miss our next match too. Pretty sure it was 3 cards.
