  1. 4Chan is such a sleezy site. I've felt dirty every time I go there.
  2. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) Shirek loses after just one bad inning. Guess who has another hit, a HR to be exact, maybe time for a promotion? Shirek only gave up one hit, a ground ball single, after the first. Too bad the offense couldn't pick him up. I wonder what was going on in the 1st inning. At this point I think the Sox are going to let Shoemaker play out his hit streak. He's at 28.
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 01:01 AM) Wait, so you wouldn't watch the US National Team play if they were playing Grenada or am I reading that wrong? They played Grenada in the Gold Cup opener and I had no desire to watch. I don't see why this is relevant, it's like watching the Sox play a AA team.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) Gulp...if the value is good, I'd consider trading Quentin. I don't think this is a bad idea, just not now. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 05:40 PM) Reality is...Quentin's back currently in the same boat he was when Arizona traded him; his value is depressed because of injury, so the other team you're trading with would expect to get him at a discount. Which means it's not the time you want to trade him, unless it's the other guy offering something stupid. Right, he is at lowest value. At the same time, if he finished reasonably well this year (got hot for a month) I would be happy to trade him in the offseason.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 11:48 PM) I thought it was fairly clear that "everyone" meant the people who give a s*** about soccer. It's rare enough to see the national team play that I'm always going to try to watch as long as they aren't playing Grenada or the like. However, I'll speak for myself in saying I watched with interest, but I was far from pumped up. MLS sucks and this team had a lot of those guys and few younger prospects.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 10:45 PM) Someone said that the fence was a good 3 or 4 feet from the fans, is that true? There's certainly room. He couldn't have caught that ball or interfered without jumping out of his seat.
  7. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 11:31 PM) I'm fairy sure a lot of people get FSC. And certainly everyone in Chicago gets Telemundo. Depends on your definition of a lot of people. You need to buy the sports package just to get in on Comcast. That's going to eliminate an overwhelming majority of people. Yes I know it was on Telemundo and Univision, but if you were willing to watch in Spanish without speaking Spanish I don't think you are the type of fan that is going to classify the country as 'pumped' by watching. To say everyone was pumped is reaching. All this coming from the guy who said the US shouldn't play or talk about soccer and they are the only country to not care about it, but everyone was pumped. Those 2 things don't match.

  9. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) how's he against LHP? That was a big question 2-7, both singles, 2 K. It's too early to judge what that means. Even too early to judge his overall stats. It's just backwards to hear raw and see an OPS above 1 in low A weeks after getting drafted.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 10:35 PM) You're kidding yourself if you don't think everyone was pumped for this tournament and for this match specifically. It wasn't on English TV other than FSC, which very few get. I don't think people were pumped for it. Maybe a little for this match, but not the whole tournament.
  11. It's funny, we were told Mitchell was raw for a college first rounder, but he sure isn't showing it.
  12. Mexico just got a penalty where their guy was actually the one to commit the foul. Awful.
  13. QUOTE (CSF @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 11:34 PM) Looks like Thompson's about to be in the fold. From the LA Times: Great find. It was long expected, but it's still nice to see. I have to get to work on my AAP now.
  14. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 12:28 AM) I told you guys that when Dayan started pulling more he'd be deadly. I certainly wasn't one to doubt. Reports of oppo power from you and elite bat speed from scouting reports is really hard to hate on.
  15. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 11:27 PM) Eh I'd say Rugby's actually thr #3 sport in Australia now (behind Australian Rules Football and Soccer which has exploded down here since the last World Cup when we made the 2nd round). Interesting. Either way, soccer isn't #1. It's hard to watch rugby after Aussie Rules. It's a pretty badass sport actually. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 11:29 PM) Just from an outsider's point of view, the LA fans come out looking like idiots in this, and it probably makes players from Europe like Freddie Ljungberg who come to the US think twice if they are potentially going to be treated like this, which is definitely not what the MLS needs. I agree, but I think the impression has to be positive for Ljungberg. The fans in Seattle have been great for that team. MLS will get bigger and better. Right now, it's a matter of depth. They need to get better at keeping guys from going to League One in England or the Scandinavian leagues (which a lot have been doing) because while those players might get more exposure from better teams in Europe, it hurts MLS.
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) Anyone have Kroeger's line over the last month? He seems to be hitting the ball really well. His July has almost been as bad as his April. Hitting .211 over his last 10 games too. He is on a 5 game hit streak though. 7-21 with 2 HR.
  17. Knights won 7-6 Poreda with a so-so AAA debut. Only stretched out to go 4 innings though. Barons won 4-1 Viciedo with another bomb. Pretty good start from Long. Hogs also won Lowe with 7 scoreless. Kanny lost 11-4 Phegley with his 5th passed ball and another ofer. An Australian made his debut for Kanny. Great Falls Bristol won Upchurch with a good, not great start. Shoemaker is too good for the level.
  18. Soccer isn't #1 in every other country. Not close. Rugby dominates Australia, New Zealand, that area and a few others. Canada loves their hockey. India loves cricket. The Caribbean prefers baseball. Just to name a few. Get over yourself.
  19. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) Has nothing to do with European heritage, this country is soccer challenged. Therefore we shouldn't bother playing it or talking about it. Get real.
  20. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) JPNese is fairly pithy. I thought it was pretty funny.
  21. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) The United States should just be banned from talking about or being involved in anything that has to do with soccer. Classy, very classy. Don't be a snob because you have some European heritage, c'mon dude.
  22. There already should be some heat on Zook. I'm just saying you have guys that are new starters or guys that were part of a bad team last year. It's hard to expect a big improvement.
  23. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 10:51 PM) I wouldn't really say they are returning "crap." Kind of an ignorant comment. The offense doesn't have newbies, minus a few lineman. Best receiving core in the big ten, QB who led the big ten in total offense, and every rushing yard returns. Defense has more question marks, especially at line and lb. Secondary will likely be the strength of the defense as there is more experience there. There could be a lot of shootouts this year. I don't see many reasons why we shouldn't be confident that this team should be pretty decent this year and not atrocius, but if you want to call everyone a homer, so be it. I am not guaranteeing a BTT, that's silly to predict, but I don't see how this team finishes in the bottom to middle of the Big Ten. Maybe the Big Ten is down but I think they finish towards the top somewhere. Ok so either they have newbies or guys that were crap last year. They won 5 games last year. Not sure why the excitement other than expectations from good recruiting classes. I didn't say they would be atrocious this year, but they were last year. 3-5 in a mediocre Big Ten and a loss to Western Michigan was bad. Better is assumed, but what does 'towards the top somewhere' mean? Top 4 in the Big Ten? Far from unthinkable, but shouldn't be an expectation.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 09:01 PM) I firmly believe Bellamy will be the first player from the 2009 draft for the Sox to make the majors. I've been saying similar. He might only be Chad Bradford, but there's nothing wrong with that.
