QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) I think that, coming off his surgery/rehab, he was only supposed to be in Bristol long enough to make sure he was healthy before going to Kanny. I'm pretty sure they could have figured that out in extended Spring Training.

Interesting promotion. Griffith was really struggling. Maybe the Sox decided to push him and let someone else take a rotation spot in Bristol.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 11:56 PM) Fail, who said I give a crap about the Mexican National team? Nice try though thinking that because I'm Mexican-American I must root for Mexico like all Irish-Americans going for Ireland or all Polish-Americans going for Poland, right?Wrong! By the way,Soccer is as exciting as watching paint dry,I rarely watch it cept when nothing else is on. Whereas Team USA choking saddened you guys,I couldn't care less who goes or doesn't go to the WC Then get the heck out of this thread. I don't see why people feel so insecure about soccer to bash it so much in this country. If they don't like hockey, they don't watch and don't talk about it. If they don't like soccer, they feel the need to make fun of soccer and all who like it. I don't stand for it.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) I'm a bigger fan of Gordon than most, but my God, if Paxson signed him to a 5 year $55 million contract in February, everyone here would have demanded his head. He's a real nice scorer, but if Dumars thinks Gordon and Villenueva are going to take the Pistons back to the top, I have to laugh. Its one more team the Bullies should have no problem being better than the next couple of years. Yeah, long term it's much better and short term I'm not going to worry about it. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 09:33 PM) The Bulls will miss Bens scoring, but they can make much better use of the $11 million per year. It's really just that simple. QUOTE (dbaho @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 12:07 AM) Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but Andre Igoudala sure would look nice next to Derrick Rose right now. Doubtful the Bulls would have been as bad with Igoudala and they wouldn't have won the lottery (if they would even be in it). -
The HR from that video is scary. I have a hard time believing his power won't show up considering that's the one thing the scouts thought he did best.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) Is Flowers ok? Seems like he's been off for a few days recently. Today is his first full day off in a while. He came in as a sub for the 16 inning game yesterday. Manager probably wanted to give him an off day, but ended up catching 7 innings. As for the Hudson talk, he sure seems like the kind of prospect Kenny would trade at the deadline. The team is playing well, they are in the race and the rotation has a lot of young guys. Allen would probably make more sense to trade, but Hudson has to have a good amount of value right now. Miguel Gonzalez hit his 2nd HR tonight. He is raking in the Appy League.

SoxAce, you're killing me. I laughed way too hard at that. I told some of my non-Sox fans friends about the nickname. It's everyone's favorite. We are all hoping it sticks on a national level and Hawk talks about it's origins on air. That would be epic tv.

Anderson is certainly more than above average. As for Danks (and I've only seen him 3 times), I thought he was the best defensive CFer I had ever seen at Mizzou through 4 years, by quite a bit. I didn't get a great view of his arm, but it was above average from what I saw. I thought his swing was awfully long for a contact/low-medium power guy, but he hit pretty well throughout college and has done so in the pros as well. Range wise, I thought he was spectacular so I would go with the reports. Seeing him at Texas (considering the Sox already drafted him and he's John's brother, I was paying more attention to Jordan), I thought he was great in center.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) Miguel Gonzalez- 18 year old catcher for Bristol with his first homer on the season. He was awesome last year in the DSL and is off to a great start in Bristol. I think that he will be someone to follow. Agree. It's still early (think Eduardo Escobar), but worth following for sure.

What was your impression of Dan Hudson when he was with the Dash?

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 07:40 AM) He's old for the level (almost 27) and has struggled most of the year but Miguel Negron has really turned it around the past month or so. I'm not saying he is will be an answer but he was a first round pick and can play CF and lead off. Basically just someone to kinda keep an eye on. Odds are low but who knows. Wouldn't hurt to keep him around next year with an invite to ST and see if anything happens. Pablo Ozuna type? Seems reasonable.

Great find. I kind of know the interviewer from school.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) Serena is seeded #2 while Venus is seeded #3. Explain to me how they aren't playing each other now? It's stupid if they did this on purpose to try and set up the "all sister" final again. If the 1 played the 4 and the 2 played the 3 every tournament you would have the same people playing each other all the time. It's a random draw and besides, seeds in tennis are fluid enough that it doesn't matter all that much.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) Murray celebrated a 4th round win a little too much, but the crowd was going great for him. That's what I thought. He doesn't have much of a run left IMO.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 07:02 AM) Thank god, I got caught by the semantics police. He’s played baseball all of his life, he’s played well, I don’t expect that to change. Okay? You can call it semantics, but switching from metal to wood bats is a big difference.
-
I've been wondering the same thing for a while. His K numbers have always been good, but he is old for his level as you mentioned.

Wimbledon is playing at night. This is rocking my world. Wawrinka-Murray in the 5th and currently live.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) I'm liking that Colligan kid. Kinda looks like Dewon Day though. I saw him a few times in college and he's a solid all-around player. I'm not sure he's quite prospect material, but he should do well through A ball.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 07:26 PM) It’s what he’s done his entire professional career. All of a game?

Are we guessing or rooting? I can't tell (not that I'm offended, find it rather funny). Amy Winehouse would make a lot of sense (on both sides of it...).

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) DH? Shouldn't they be using him at catcher since he's such a high pick? Probably just wanted to ease him in a bit. Let him focus solely on the hitting first, worry about fielding tomorrow.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) Davies had a nice tournament. Going to be exciting to see if he can build off of this for the Gold Cup. But him not giving Landon the ball on a couple of counters in the second half was HUGE. Donovan was a beast these 5 games and he's got to know to give it up to Landon on the run. Yeah, his development is huge. It's very nice to see the guys that have come up through the youth national teams in recent years (Davies, Bradley, Spector) do well because the youth teams have looked good on those levels. Davies is the 2nd forward the US needed with Altidore. 1 forward set ups don't work. Davies will get better, his decisions will improve. He has the speed and talent to do some serious damage.

Jim Edmonds. They are even.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) I think the more important part is him showing he can hit with a wooden bat. That's a big question mark with him. Yeah, he was so-so in the Cod League. He was an all-star and then got hurt. Didn't play last summer. Not much in the way of wood bat success, but in my search to see what he did in the Cape I found this BA article. Phegley looking to prove he's an all-around catcher
