JPN beat me to it on FutureSox We assumed it for a while, but still exciting to see Phegley start his pro career.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) A few months ago I had zero interest in the Gold Cup from the US perspective but now I'm curious because of the roster. I wished Torres and Edu were selected just to see them more. I dont see us competing for the title but atleast some new guys can get some playing time in an international setting. I'm picking Canada to win it this year. Edu is hurt.

Who is the best/most memorable player you have seen come through (for Winston-Salem or as an opponent)?

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) Jason, I really do love the direction you're taking FutureSox. It may be a few years later than you originally anticipated, but it's going to turn in to one hell of a minor league site. Though, a few years ago we were doing pretty well; I guess people just got busy. As they say, life got in the way. Hopefully its back for good now. And I'll try to be contributing something shorty, fyi. Yeah Jason got a job that took up more time and Heads and I were at college. Now at least Heads and I are bored in the summer. Then again, currently I'm not a college kid, I'm just unemployed haha. We also added a couple people (Seven and JPN) who have been great for us. Jason wants a ton of content and we've been doing pretty well I think.

Right, this Gold Cup doesn't matter. However, it's not the group of players I would send. Something closer to the Olympics roster would be more interesting. Dax McCarty, Danny Szetela, Chris Seitz. It's hard to get excited about the group they are sending, but I'll follow it. There are a few names worth following (Adu, Davies, Robbie Rogers).

Nah, f*** rookie ball. Most of these guys won't even make it to AA.

Time for Brazil. Should be exciting. A US win would have to be their biggest ever. The Spain win is top 10 as Lalas said, probably top 5. The Gold Cup roster was released. Click here for it. A lot of young guys, but also a lot of MLS guys on it. Not that the Gold Cup is all that important, but it's a new mix of players.

We are going to have a new midseason list. It's harder to organize a combined list from a few of us, but we could probably have one person do their own and update it more often.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) I'd like to see links to all the Sox minor leagues affiliates websites. We already do. Their official Web sites are now all through milb.com.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) They are signing a lot more guys than they did last year. Yeah already with the same number (26) as last season.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 01:38 AM) Or even better, instead of linking to MiLB.com player profiles it could link to FutureSox player profiles with full scouting reports, kind of like what they do at Soxprospects.com. This would obviously take some time to get done but it would be really good. Right and this is more along the lines that we were thinking of. Stats, scouting reports, a compilation of FS content. With the server also affecting the admin side of the site we haven't had the best chance to see how doable, how good and how much we can do with this concept. We'll tool around with it, but in an ideal world it would be something like what you suggested.

We have a new layout coming out following the server switch that I think looks spectacular. Considering this will fix the problems the site has been having on Firefox, the new Safari and Google Chrome we want to make a bigger push to make the site great. We have interviews (Mitchell, Dash PR guy Collari and we're working on getting others), prospect rankings, draft updates, commentary from JPN who gets to see the Barons' first hand more than any of us and other tidbits. We're also working on/tinkering with the idea of having player profiles on the site, but we aren't completely sure how that's going to work yet. So our question is what else do you want to see from the site? What could make it better?

QUOTE (Nixon @ Jun 21, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) Man, the vuvuzela has to be the most annoying instrument on earth. I hope FIFA bans them for the world cup. Absolutely. Horns are fine, but this one is just awful. I feel like they should be allowed for South Africa's games though. That's part of their tradition, or so it seems, and they are at home. They just don't need those awful horns for a Netherlands-Australia match or something. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 21, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) hopefully we can beat South Africa after Spain takes us to the woodshed. Haha just what I was thinking. That likely SA game will be a better test than the Spain match. Spain should just work the US.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 10:24 PM) Ima focus on now the best prospect in our minors IMO (since Beckham is up, and some people who would say Poreda... he's up too) Viciedo. And I know a few here agree with me (I know Jas would say Danks, couple say Flowers etc.) April: .234/.304/.387/.691 May: .293/.314/.397/.711 June: .301/.350/.466/.816 Increased homers, walks, etc.. every month. I would say he's quickly adjusting. I agree with you. A lot of people are gonna be saying Hudson the way he's going, but I still love Dayan.
-
QUOTE (Adele_H @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 06:12 PM) Didn't Jeremy Reed, Brian Anderson and Ryan Sweeney all have semi-chronic wrist problems at one point? What have you read about the Danks injury that would classify as semi-chronic?
-
QUOTE (Adele_H @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 06:05 PM) You know, I think even success in AA is hardly a reliable predictor of success -- anymore than, say, Tyler Hansborough or some NBA developmental league guy piling up big numbers. Discounting obvious phenoms/exception.......90% of guys you need to see face major-league quality competion consistently before rendering judgement. I just said make it to the Majors. I didn't say succeed there. Wes Whisler and Jack Egbert made it to the Majors...

5th rounder Kyle Bellamy: "I am leaning toward signing; probably about 75% sure I will sign," said Bellamy. "If the package the White Sox offer me isn't good then I will have no problem going back to the University of Miami. I love it there. I love the teammates, coaches and atmosphere. It wouldn't be the worst thing if I went back to Miami."

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) IMO the referenced post was nothing more than typical 'our prospects suck until they prove otherwise' garbage. It's a matter of opinion. I think you are way too nice to our prospects with the opposite 'our prospects are really good until they prove otherwise' which I could also call garbage when you try to defend some 23 year old reliever in high A or something. I think you are being a little harsh on BearSox considering he is simply stating an opinion that you disagree with. The fact of the matter is most prospects don't make it. You can decide which one is garbage on your own. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) Well, you have the people who trash the guys who are struggling, and disregard the ones who are having success. I wonder how some would have reacted to Evan Longoria if he had been in the White Sox organization. Would they have been saying, "it's just AA" when he had a great season for Montgomery in 2007? I won't speak for others, but generally AA is the point where a guy proves he is gonna be a Major Leaguer. If you succeed in AA, the odds are pretty good of you making it to the Majors at some point, especially for hitters. I don't think I would be reserved on a guy succeeding AA. Some of the college guys in A ball have to prove themselves a bit more if they don't have a bigger upside or incredible stats.

His K:BB ratio had been pretty poor though, it's not a big surprise.
-
0 XBH. I loved Eduardo Escobar for his 24 AB hot streak for Great Falls last year and he walked twice to only 3 Ks. Granted, the walk rate isn't there, but there are other guys on that DSL roster putting up more impressive numbers. This guy you mentioned could just be a slap hitter with an eye. Who knows?

DL for Jordan. Velcro brace on his right wrist received June 14. Hopefully he gets back soon. The minor league DL is only 7 says so he'll be eligible to come back in a few days, though I doubt he comes back that fast. He's already been promoted and is succeeding at the higher level, no reason to rush him back from an injury after he has proved so much this season.
-
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 10:57 PM) What else is he going to do? Catch? Like I said, you could have him as a third catcher/DH, or David Cook who can play LF, CF, RF & DH. Or hell, even Dewayne Wise. I don't want to hear the numbers game crap in regard to David Cook when the big fat number is Corky Miller as the third catcher. I didn't have any problems with Corky defensively. He threw out a runner. I saw it. He wore a White Sox uniform. It's pretty rare with AJ back there. I agree with Cook, but he did get his shot at AAA and it wasn't spectacular. Not saying he should be in AA, but it's hard to see him having a future.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 01:31 AM) Well... Birmingham's got a playoff slot wrapped up. Maybe Charlotte could win the 2nd half in the IL and get in too. I think it would be great to promote the whole Barons team and see if they could make the playoffs at two different levels (AA and AAA) this year. The IL doesn't have half-season titles. The Knights will have to overcome their first half deficit.

I was 7 in 94 at Soldier Field, but I remember it being pretty damn cramped and that was Bulgaria (Stoichkov) and Greece. I still cherish that I went to a game though. I can't say how it would be traveling to one though.
