  1. US up 1-0 on Italy early 2nd half. Ricardo Clark got sent off in the 33rd minute. It was a straight red on a questionable call. It was certainly a yellow, I've seen worse called a red before. Lalas was pissed, but he's so biased it's ridiculous. Jozy had a sick cutback to earn a PK and Donovan put it away. Looks like 40+ minutes of bunkering down for the US. I'm thinking they get a draw, which would be a good result.
  2. Knights lost 6-3 Lillibridge above the Mendoza line after a 2 hit game. Whisler 5 IP, 5 R in his return to AAA. Barons 9-0 winners Retherford with 2 hits, Allen with 3 and Shelby with a HR. Omogrosso with 5 shutout innings. Warthogs shutout, will have to wait to clinch Lowe threw 7 scoreless, but the bullpen blew up. Kannapolis also lost, 7-1 Carter 6 IP, 1 R, 7 K, 2 BB, 6 H 2 hits for Greene and Gilmore
  3. Let's try and put all the draft signings news in one thread. We're going to try to track stuff on FutureSox with our DraftTracker (which we will continue to update with stories and signings), but let's put any little snippets we find in here too. This story from the Sun-Sentinel says Bellamy was disappointed to fall to the 5th (interesting because a couple here called it an overdraft) and that he will probably sign. I wrote a story on him on FutureSox (link here) and it's hard to hate the pick considering he mowed down the ACC 2 years in a row. 4. No peanuts at the park June 28 Weird promotion of the week award. What in the world?
  5. Good story on Goodwin A couple interesting, but not necessarily encouraging quotes. This story is a better profile, but doesn't talk about the Sox
  6. Confederations Cup starts tomorrow. I'm excited that ESPN is showing the games. It will give me some entertainment. Who else will be watching/paying attention?
  7. Viciedo and Escobar with good games. Both are hitting pretty hot to start June.
  8. They signed Danks and Upchurch last year so there is certainly hope.
  9. Thanks guys. Appreciate the well wishes. Heads, if you don't feel bad about what you said then...whatever. (My best Jim More imitation for anyone who knows the reference, I couldn't find it online.)
  10. Shirek was also a draft eligible sophomore so signability may have been a worry for teams.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 02:09 AM) If anything, the one guy I've been the most disappointed in is Viciedo. I knew he wasn't ready for the majors. But I expected him to flat rake in the minors. A BB/K ratio of 8/45 and .668 OPS was certainly not what I was expecting. That's not even touching on his defense (doesn't he have like 12 errors?). Don't get me wrong. I know he's 19 (or is he 20 now?). And I know he's adjusting to a brand new culture/environment. And I know we've still got another 3 months left in the minor league season, so he could obviously turn it around. I just expected better to this point. He's shown improvement so I'm not worried yet. Maybe he's just Babe Ruth and had to adjust to not being able to buy alcohol in this country. It's his secret weapon. Haha fight this magical logic.
  12. Gilmore has had 9 good games following an embarrassing April and an awful May. I didn't have any expectations for him so it's ok. I was never a big fan of Shelby so I don't think he'll get much better. Marquez has been hurt so I don't see how people could call him a disappointment, seems unfair. I'd throw in Jack Egbert as being surprisingly disappointing this year. He has been quite good as a starter though. Escobar is my guy and he has shown mostly nothing. I can't even find stats to defend him at this point. I hope he turns it around fast though.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) With his talent, he can go to UCLA and be a top 15 pick in 4 years. 3 years, but I agree. Other than the reports we've read, it would sound like an issue. Still, the Sox probably figured they could sign him considering where they took him.
  14. That Trayce Thompson bit is great. I'm ecstatic to hear we are probably gonna sign him because I absolutely love that draft pick from everything I've read.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 03:06 AM) Here's my favorite one: Haha I saw that one too, cracked me up.
  16. I'm not going to bump it because people might dig out mean quotes to show others up, but I'm reading the '08 draft thread and it's really funny to me. A decent amount of people upset with the Beckham pick, but a lot of people liked it. Maybe a slightly better reaction than to the Mitchell pick, which is funny. I might go back to 07 since we have a slightly better feel for those guys. I know the Poreda pick came out of leftfield. I did say "So now we/I start hoping Jordan Danks falls to us in the 3rd and we actually take him," after the Gordon pick. Guess that worked out, even if I was wrong round wise haha.
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) I don't consider someone that streaky, with a career average of .244 and guaranteed for 130+ K's good, I'm sorry. Unless he's hitting 35+ homers with 100+ runs driven in every year, no thanks. The only thing that might have been stupider than trading for him was trading him for crap. Yeah, f*** on-base percentage!
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) Danny Black's slow ass?!?! BWHAHAHAHAHA!!! I can't believe a guy who I "sorta" hung out with at Purdue (mind you I didn't go there, just passed by alot on campus/hitting on women ) got drafted by us. Very cool. He, Andy Loomis (Marilins pick I think 16th round last year) etc.. Those guys are crazy. Purdue? Women? I think you were on the wrong campus.
  19. Ballinger from Southern Miss will be in the CWS if anyone would be interested in watching a guy we probably don't sign lol.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) Can someone update Post 1 of this thread, or the other one, with the picks so far? Just use FutureSox Awesome/hilarious thing a friend just told me about Buch. He pitched against Mizzou in regional play and my friend was there. "I just remembered why Ryan Buch dropped so much...his mom is f***ing crazy and was bothering scouts. she got moved from a catwalk near the pressbox becuase she was yelling over the writers and by the scouts." I wouldn't read much into it, but I was entertained.
  21. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) One thing that worries me is how his walk numbers didn't just increase, but they drastically increase. He went from having only 15 in 08 to 52 in 09, and that's a huge increase. I'm not saying he hasn't made improvements to his plate discipline, but thats a huge increase in one year and his strikeouts went up. I don't know... I don't understand how this is a bad thing.
  22. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 12:51 PM) I believe Diego Seastrunk is still available. Maybe he said he wanted to go back to school. Colligan, the 12th rounder, is a big power, lower contact guy. His stats reek of metal bat power.
  23. Wow I just saw he hit .401. Pretty impressive, it's not like the MVC is bad at baseball.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) Another article on Pioli, who was the 2008 Alaskan Summer League player of the year. Sounds like we got ourselves a good baseball player here. Who knows if he makes it or not, but he should be able to rake short season ball. http://www.tribstar.com/ISU/local_story_214232837.html MLB says his last name is Ciolli. Which is it?
