QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 09:28 AM) I just heard the Killers cover of Hotel California for their new album. I was not impressed at all Yeah. It's a shame. Hot Fuss is probably one of the best debuts in a generation so they put unfair expectations on themselves, but I'm not going to judge them on a cover with another band.

This AAP was expected from you haha. I was hoping this guy was signed straight out of Australia by the Sox and was/could be some kind of prospect. He's not old yet, but his history makes it seem like he wouldn't be able to shoot through the minors in 2 years.

If you are talking about Kyle McCulloch the only thing you can talk about is minor league trophies. He isn't blocking anyone in need of a promotion for the final 3+ weeks. I just don't see the logic in promoting a player that is already putting up mediocre results.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:16 PM) Now, that McCulloch isn’t going to Toronto, can we please promote him to AAA? You really need to stop this. The Dash doesn't have anyone else ready to step up. Johnnie Lowe got an in-season promotion with an ERA above 4. McCulloch can help the Barons and that team has been raided already.

Discussion - Which of our former 1B prospects will turn out better

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) Allen by a wide margin, if I had to guess. The exact opposite because of this below. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) I'd easily take Carter due to the elite level power and superior walk rate. I'm not thrilled by Brandon raking for a short period of time in a huge hitters' league. -
He has played 2B and 3B this year too. Certainly can play a bunch of positions and steal some bases.

Airborne Toxic Event was damn good today. Killers were solid, but I wish I had seen them a couple years ago so I didn't have to put up with the Day & Age songs (other than Human).

QUOTE (CSF @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) Also, it's official. Hudson's listed on the Charlotte roster. Thanks to JPN, FutureSox was 2 days ahead of milb.com.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 07:06 PM) All that talk of Wes Whisler being a candidate to come up for a spot start went out the window tonight. What talk? QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 08:17 PM) The more I see Danks season progress, the more I think 2011 should be his estimated time for making the majors. I think 2011 has always been more realistic. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) Holmberg has a lot of upside. He had a nice selection of pitches, and a pretty profound High School pedigree. I’d mark as a potential #3-#4 starter, assuming he can pick up his strikeout rate. He’s very young, so his ETA is up in the air, but given the aggressive timetable of Buddy Bell’s system 2012 is a fairly realistic possibility. 2012 would be awfully quick.

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) Kings of Leon older stuff is teh f***ing awesomeness. Yeah, I like their new stuff better but the old stuff is cool. They rocked Lolla last night. Unreal atmosphere.

Half the balls Phegley has put in play have been flyballs. That's astonishing. It explains the power and the low average.

Good to see Trayce finally playing. Walk in PA #1.

I live a minute from Shermer Road. It's really cool to see my high school and others in the area in his movies. Breakfast Club is a classic. RIP

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 02:06 AM) Jesus is every prospect in the White Sox minor league system a Chuck Norris clone? Haha at least this one was funny.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 11:14 PM) Futuresox.. get on this. You're quite demanding aren't you. Fine, you win.

FutureSox July Awards More of the same from Mr. Hudson.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) You have to be careful of GO/AO, because it is ALL outs. If he strikes out more guys, it will drop. I would rather they did GB/FB ratios on there, but they don't. GB/FB is on minor league splits and the data isn't all that different. Hudson last 3 starts have had good groundball rates though.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) Bacon is an awful nickname. I agree. I'm surprised people have jumped on it. I think Slayer is hilarious, but I certainly wouldn't call the guy Slayer to his face.
-
I don't think Hudson has the upside of an ace. He probably ends up being a #3. That said, if he turns into a #3 with Buehrle, Peavy, Danks and Floyd in the rotation the Sox will have one of the best #5 starters they've ever had.
-
Poreda is just a reliever. Probably an above average one, but nothing worth regretting in a deal for Jake Peavy. Peavy is going to be the one to determine if it was a good deal or not. Carter is still far away and Richard's upside doesn't equal Peavy's.

I went to Bourbonnais today. Cutler throws really hard, but the WRs mostly suck. Pace looked really good in one on ones with the D line. Chris Williams looked absolutely awful. Is he hurt or something? I can't imagine an outside lineman being that slow.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 11:58 PM) i was basing it on the thread on page 2, the SN:scouting report on Nunez. It says a plus fastball(94-96) and a slider that is his key pitch to having success. I'm sure he may have been a little tight considering it was his ML debut but i didn't see anything close to what i'd consider a plus fastball. 94-96 might be pushing it, but you turned 94-96 to 96-97.
-
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) how come it always seems like the Sox's top pitching prospects are being said to have fastballs that top out 3-5 mph faster in the minors than what they actually show up with at the MLB level. Nunez, i know it was his debut, looks like another in a long line of supposed flame throwers that didn't show anywhere near the kind of fastball they were reported to have. The gun today had him at 91-93 while it was reported that he could bring it at 96-97. It was the same thing with Poreda and goes all the way back to Massett coming up. Does US cellular have a slow gun or are these guys a bit overhyped. I know the be all,end all is not how hard you throw but i was kind of disappointed when his first fastball showed at 91 today when i was expecting to see at least 95. The main thing is he got the out and looked pretty poised but still.......... According to Baseball America Nunez's fastball is 92-94 and touches 95. 96-97 should not have ever been said or reported. I've never heard that. 91-93 vs. 92-94 is nothing. Poreda topped out at 97 like the scouting report said. He didn't sit at 97, but topping out is different. That's where the problems start. Someone reads "fastball topped out at 95" or "touches 95" and expects to see 95 all the time. That's just not how it works. It may not even be you. Someone else saw a report of him hitting 96 on a good gun on a good night for him and worded their report poorly or someone didn't quote it properly. It's like a game of telephone. QUOTE (CWSOX45 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 11:02 PM) Most of these reports written are taken from one or two scouts perspectives, and most of the time these reports are usually incorrect. While someone may say that Nunez hits 95 on the gun, that might be what he maxed out at, where as his average fastball range is 89-92. It's entirely possible. I wouldn't say most of the time they are incorrect, but obviously they can be.
