QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 03:00 PM) The more I think about it, the more I'm starting to believe that Flowers and AJ might just be rotated between DH and Catcher next season. It's obviously not the best idea in the world for Flowers progression as a catcher but it gives AJ some extra rest and with not a whole lot of money to work with, it's something that could possibly happen. I think financially this is a great idea assuming Flowers can be capable next year. I think that's what his September tryout will be about. A better look of whether or not he can be a starter in 2010. The Sox would get a player at league minimum with big potential and give AJ extra rest from playing catcher. The only position that would need to be filled/resigned would be another OF. Rios and Quentin would go out there. If the Sox have money to spend it's probably Dye. If not, Pods. Both wouldn't be out of the question. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) Right now he's actually quite a bit better than Thome, and the dude can actually run a bit and is pretty durable. Actually, we could throw Pauly at DH and Dunn at first. Why would Dunn play over Paulie at 1st?

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:23 PM) I appreciate the way he worked his ass off to make it back by spring training. Says a lot about that guy, that and the fact he accepted the demotion to Charlotte. Absolutely. He was a great guy and did everything you would want from a guy. It's a shame he had so many struggles in the US because he had unbelievable stuff when he was on.

KHP, you have to back off the lack of intelligence stance here. It's unnecessary to your argument and please don't reply with 4-5 paragraphs explaining your point for the umpteenth time. It's becoming a dead horse (and that's everyone's fault on here, not you). I will say, I highly doubt Allen becomes an above average starting 1B offensively. His highest batting average was .290 (in AA this year) until his aberration in the PCL. It seems highly unlikely he will hit for a good average, which is going to put a lot of pressure on his walk rate and power. He may have 30 HR power, but his walk rate is good, not spectacular so if he is going to hit .260-.270 it's going to be very hard to put up a .850ish OPS. Paul Konerko with less batting average maybe.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 03:39 PM) Who said it was? You were the one who obviously made that assumption, I just said he was confirmed as a Gator fan who googled the guy before he hit him. Obviously that is a mark against him as a person if he would take his fandom to that level. Not sure where you drew the conclusion that I was saying something about the entire fan base, unless you were thinking my earlier sarcastic remark was serious. Either way, its clear this guy is an idiot, and should be penalized harshly. Take it easy, I was just saying attaching Florida fan to him is irrelevant. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) Elbow tightness...what a disaster Or a blessing in disguise. Shut him down for the rest of the year and get everything back to 100% for next year. This year's team has been done before this road trip failure.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 07:15 PM) So if he's supposed to be a league average everyday 1B in the Major Leagues then he's basically a run of the mill 1B prospect? Aren't your average run of the mill 1B prospect tweeners and AAAA players? Chris Carter of the Red Sox is your average 1B prospect, nothing special. Brandon Allen is above that. I guess it's definition of prospect. If a guy projects as a tweener, he isn't much of a prospect is he? Also, I think you are talking about Chris Carter of the A's, not the Red Sox.
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 04:28 PM) No, I was responding to your first uninformed statement where you were shocked about him being viewed as a plus prospect for his position. He's not a plus positional prospect. If he is supposed to be an average 1B or solid 1B, he's not plus.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) Seems odd - why? Season is almost over anyway. Shirek isn't playing AFL, is he? He's around 150 innings already. With playoffs factored in, he could push 170 innings if they didn't take him out of the rotation. Not recommended for prospects. They'll probably put him back in the rotation for the playoffs (can't imagine otherwise), but he might not make a start until then.

WTF is an inadvertent phone call? If you're going to make s*** up, at least make it plausible. -
Viciedo to 1st, Marrero to RF tonight. Here we go.....

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 07:51 PM) So is Mike Morse for the Nationals AAA team. And Jerry Owens for the Mariners' AAA (also a PCL team).
-
QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 07:12 AM) He also has had only about 20 ML at bats. I know. Obviously, it's a tiny sample. I'm just saying if people are going to mention every time he has a good game, I'll mention that he isn't setting the world on fire as it seems some people are implying.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) It's really not even a funny joke that a sucker punch at a bar in front of a kid's family may have ended a promising football career and may leave the kid with a long term disability. It's equally unfair to say this is a mark against Florida fans. It was one guy. -
He's also hitting .235. Chill out people.
-
Escobar is still young so he can still be a pretty damn good prospect. It will be interesting to see where he starts next year. He already spent some time in Kanny last year so repeating again would be really slowing his progress.
-
Talk about life imitating art. That's f***ed up.
-
Jerry Owens went 6-7 tonight. It's AAA and the PCL, but wow. On the season for Tacoma (Seattle), he's hitting .319 with 35 BB and only 39 K in 335 AB. 19/26 in SB. Go figure.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) 9 errors and 6 PB so far in 40 games - seems awfully high as an error number for a catcher. That's 30+ errors in a full season. He's young though, so, we'll see. Yeah, but he has shown the ability to throw out runners. I'm not sure his throw out rate is currently, but it was above 1/3, I believe, about 2 weeks into the season. He does seem to get a lot of pickoffs as opposed to CS so I'm assuming he's accumulated a couple errors from being too aggressive behind the plate.
-
Mitchell probably isn't on the same track Beckham was. It's likely we'll see Mitchell there next fall though.
-
QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) I thought he gave up way too much for Thome, given that we did the Phillies a huge favor by taking Thome, since all they had was Ryan Howard ready to go. Wow. That's an out there belief. I certainly believe Thome is worth more than Rowand and Gio. Rowand was a free agent a year later and Gio has been awful in the Majors.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 08:06 AM) currently Charlie Shirek (23rd round and he's doing quite well) Shirek was only drafted that low because he wasn't expected to sign because he was a draft eligible sophomore.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 09:46 PM) its early, and only 63 ABs, but trayce thompson has 3 BBs and 28 Ks....thats not too good Though not that unexpected. We knew he was supposed to be raw. I would have been surprised if he hit .300 with big power right out of high school.
-
Done.

He's got to learn strike zone judgment and develop power, but for his age the average is really nice obviously.
