QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 15, 2014 -> 07:23 PM) Bosnia outplayed Argentina but could not finish at all unless it was on their own net. Messi on the other hand was terrible but man could he finish. If Messi was terrible, I'd love to know what he needs to do to be good in your eyes.

That Messi goal though. Geez.

http://www.greatfallstribune.com/story/spo...eased/10513435/ Interesting that they listed Bradley Salgado as a pitcher. Could be a mistake, but could be a position change.

QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 10:04 PM) Jared Mitchell, Keenyn Walker, and now Chevy Clarke comprise one crappy, former 1st-round outfield trio. Keenyn Walker was a supplemental round draft pick. There is a talent drop off after the first round.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 09:27 PM) Mere presence of Drogbas corpse showing up has made for an awesome atmosphere. 2 quick goals too. While I admit his presence alone changed the atmosphere and gave Ivory Coast a boost, he's also been a handful for Japan. He's still deadly, just maybe not for 90 minutes at this level.

Keisuke Honda continues to be one of my favorite players to watch. That goal was a rifled shot.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 10:42 AM) Only thing worse than that is "Italia" guy. The guy who goes to the Nike store and buys an Italia shirt or jacket and wears it just for this month. He shows up every 2 years for the Euros and World Cup and says he roots for Italy because his grandfather was born there. Born and raised in the US and probably never has even set foot in Italy. there's my rant I have an Italia shirt and root for them all the time. Don't care what you say. I don't root for them as my first team, but when the US goes out it's nice to root for a good team. People can root for whichever team they like. If those same people also don't care about the US team, then you can have a rant. It's actually a good day for England because all they probably need is 4 points to go through. Beat Costa Rica, have Italy do the same as expected and draw Uruguay. That's enough as long as Italy at least draws Uruguay.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 08:34 AM) He stepped on him. And then flopped. It's OK to be wrong, you can admit it.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 01:23 PM) I still have no idea what the call was on that corner kick where the possible 2nd goal could have been scored in the first half for Mexico Steve Nicol on ESPN just said since the Cameroon defender's deflection wasn't intentional, meaning he didn't intend to hit it there because he could only deflect it, he doesn't count as a defender, but still resets the offside line. In other words, the offside line was reset as if a Mexican player hit the ball off the corner. In simple terms they got the call right. This was new to me, but an interesting explanation. Hey, at least we got an explanation. The US didn't get that against Slovenia in 2010.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 02:47 PM) Fifa going to fifa. I don't know how you can look at that and not see a penalty. The defender is sliding out of control and the ball is well away so he's not playing the ball at all. Then there's obvious contact with the trailing leg that absolutely causes him to lose his balance and fall. Yes he stepped on his leg, but the defender shouldn't have been there and it's awfully tough to say he stepped on his leg intentionally. It's not Diego Costa's responsibility to get out of the way of the defender.

Sox apparently signed Eddy Alvarez who won a silver medal in speed skating at the 2014 Olympics. He is a 24 year old SS. His brother played pro ball and made AAA.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 08:57 AM) Roundtable discussions are so cliche. Do a hexagontable discussion. When there is a knights of the hexagontable to make it sound badass we will use that term.

http://www.ign.com/videos/2014/06/11/homef...gn-live-e3-2014 This game isn't getting a lot of pub, probably because the first one didn't do well, but Crytek took over and this demo has a lot of Crysis touches to it. Crysis is really the only first person shooter I play and is a great series. From highlighting things on your hud to looking through missions and options through an in-game thing like the phone as opposed to a pause menu and the gun customization is exactly the same. Of course, Crysis mechanics without being able to stealth isn't going to get me to buy it, but the story of Homefront is at least a little interesting.

Looks like Nintendo did well, but people complaining about E3 probably should have had lesser expectations after two major console releases last year. This was never going to match that.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 01:41 AM) Isn't Uncharted 4 coming out this year? Also The Order 1886 or whatever it's called. Uncharted was never supposed to come out in 2014. Sony said 2015 in their press conference today. The Order was delayed to 2015 in the past month or two. LBP3 fills in for 2014 and seems cool. I will play it, but probably at a discount later. I don't know what else they can do with those games. I've played LBP, LBP2 and LBP Vita and enjoyed all three but wasn't clamoring for more. Looking at the upcoming list of games is always intimidating. I'm going to be chipping away at Watch Dogs for another month at my current rate so it's a good thing the rest of the summer looks slow before the s***storm of fall (FIFA, AC: Unity, DriveClub, The Crew, now LBP3)
-
Any hopes or predictions for Monday's press conferences? I'm looking forward to what everyone has to offer. Can Nintendo make some noise? Can Microsoft generate enough excitement to catch up to PS4? How much stuff can Sony reveal considering they have one game (Driveclub) coming out in 2014?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 10:48 AM) Speaking of hot and humid, it sure seemed like the US suffered it far better than Nigeria. Certainly wouldn't expect that. Nigeria may be hot, but isn't humid.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) Have you played games like Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, etc.? Even for adults those games are a lot of fun. With a 2 year old and limited free time, my gaming habits have really changed. I used to love long single player campaigns. I vegged out on WoW for a while. But I can't do that anymore. Even without my son I don't think i'd have the patience to sit down in front of the TV/computer for 5 hours at a time like I used to. So I need shorter bursts of gaming. That's somewhat why the Wii U appeals to me. The mario games are nothing great (Mario Kart, Galaxy 1 and 2, etc. excluded, because they were), but they're games that aren't so serious and you don't need to devote so much time to it. You can play in 20-30 minute spurts. I still love the occasional long single player games - Last of Us, Uncharted, maybe Watchdogs. But they're a rarity these days for me. Left Behind, the DLC for Last of Us, was awesome btw. The last sequence had my heart pumping. Mario Kart is fun, but that's not a system seller for me and the only time I play is it when someone else has it. I wouldn't buy that on my own. I'm getting old for the 40+ hour games myself. Watch Dogs has that much content if you do all the side stuff, which I insist on doing. I simply can't do that many of those games a year. It's just that Mario whatever or Zelda doesn't really interest me regardless of game length.

Sox Draft Carlos Rodon> Draft Day Discussion Thread
danman31 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 01:00 PM) I remember seeing on the NC State Twitter that they were running a competition on predicting when Rodon, Turner and Austin would go. Most of their fans were predicting first day for Austin. Obviously fan bias at play, but they think highly of him. Quite sad to think they had three guys that high in the draft and didn't even make the NCAA Tournament. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:57 PM) 1- Rodon 2- Anderson 3- Hawkins 4- Montas 5- Adams 6- Danish 7- M. Johnson 8- M. Davidson 9- Trey M. 10- C. Sanchez I want to see Montas throw strikes for more than 6 starts before I put him that high. If he does it the rest of the season (which at this rate would probably include a promotion to AA), then we can talk No. 4 or maybe even No. 3 ahead of Hawkins, who I have almost no hope for.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 01:14 AM) A quick call up means an earlier big payday which = more money and quicker for Boras, which could make a reasonable signing easier. That said, Rodon's got lot of miles on him this year. I'd think that they would want to take it easy with him this year. He's going to turn into a reliever in the short-term if he moves up quickly. That will help to take it easy on his arm.

I don't understand the appeal to Nintendo. They just make baby games designed for kids. Their audience just keeps buying nostalgia.

QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 05:47 PM) After going to the Watch_Dogs launch event, playing the video game for a week straight, I'll be putting down the controller for Soul Suspect tonight. I suspect that I will be playing Watch_Dogs by tomorrow evening, though. Soul Suspect looks awesome, but Watch_Dogs is sooo good. The negative reviews are just idiotic. Soul Suspect has a metacritic of 59...

QUOTE (southside hitman @ May 29, 2014 -> 09:04 AM) Semantics. It's a fun way to stay on top of a blossoming minor league system. I'd say it takes me 20-30 minutes to do and it's only a chore when our prospects don't do well That has been my problem in recent years. The system is so down that it's hard to get fired up.
