  1. QUOTE (Tex @ May 27, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) America cleaning up the world. The whole thing sounds a little crazy. But we'll see if the US justice system can legitimately claim jurisdiction. I see that as the biggest battle to a successful prosecution. The main informant they have, Chuck Blazer, is American. He was heavily involved. They have jurisdiction.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 27, 2015 -> 12:13 AM) Maybe Blatter won't win the election coming up in 2 days after all. One can hope. And maybe, just maybe, this will lead to Qatar losing the 2022 WC? Please let that happen. I'd say you have a better chance of them postponing the election than him not winning.

  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 25, 2015 -> 02:03 AM) Maybe our collective standards as a society are slipping...what I mean is, we're so desperately looking for anything inventive/original/non-derivative to the point that we can't recognize "greatness" anymore in films. When we are pleasantly surprised by something, we perhaps tend to overvalue and overrate it. As the expectations run high, like with Avengers 2, we're tougher on those films...and movies like Ex Machina and Snowpiercer that become critical darlings also start to become over-hyped, to the point where it's hard to separate the objective merits of a film because of the preconceived notions we bring to a viewing. This is a real factor, but it's definitely not anything new.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 18, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) Ex Machina is a much better version of HER (Joaquin Phoenix/Scarlett Johannson). It's a bit slow in developing, and there's very little action...but it's a captivating movie nonetheless. Jason Isaac is very good as the creepy techno-genius/billionaire version of Zuckerberg/Jobs/Larry Ellison, and you might recognize the lead of the movie from a recent time travel movie appropriately titled "About Time" with Rachel McAdams and the always-watchable Bill Nighy. The ending is a surprise on what you would expect, but follows logically with the plot. All things considered, there was a lot more to take from this film than Avengers 2 or Furious 7. It's the Snowpiercer of 2015 (so far)...a movie that will definitely have its share of critics but will undoubtedly belong in a discussion of the Top 10-15 films at the ends of the year. I just saw Ex Machina. Liked it, didn't love it. I think the philosophical, thought-provoking parts were strong and two of the three performances were strong (didn't fully buy the writing and/or acting of Caleb). The twists were good, too, although I thought one or two were predictable. Overall, it didn't blow me away. It was entertaining, but didn't leave a lasting impression on me like a great movie does.
  6. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ May 21, 2015 -> 10:20 AM) Hopefully he can put it together occasionally for some major league success like Morse. That's not entirely fair because Morse hit the roids and went from a middle infielder to a hulking first baseman.
  7. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ May 18, 2015 -> 08:12 PM) People actually enjoy the Gold Cup? Really? I enjoy any time the US plays and even if the competition isn't the best, it's still actual competition, which is rare for the national team.
  8. I love seeing Real Madrid lose. Juve really earned it though. Barca will be heavily favored, but Juve is a tricky opponent. They will try to take advantage of Barca's weakness on set pieces.
  9. Anything to show you're a real person to your students helps. Some teachers miss that point and get too worried about discipline and grades. The things you can teach a student who likes and respects you are much more important than the disciplinarian teacher going by the book. I think a lot of teachers lose perspective of how they appear to kids because they've become frustrated by bad students. So, yeah, if they're willing, have them grab you lunch and tip them for it.
  10. Derrick Rose and clutch free throws strike again. Nasty crossover to get to the hoop though.
  11. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 09:13 PM) Stop calling for fastballs every time when he's clearly struggling with fastball command pls Tyler He bounced the first two sliders he threw. He's struggling with command, period.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 08:13 PM) A wee too early for that...let's at least wait until the end of June and see where he's at. I'm not saying move him to the bullpen now. I just believe his long-term destination is the bullpen.
  13. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 09:16 PM) Ugly start for Montas: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 6 BB, 4 SO Feels like it hasn't been a great start to the season for most of the top arms, though I haven't been looking too closely at the numbers. More and more I'm conceding to the fact that he's probably going to end up as a reliever. Given that he appeared to be a throw-in in the first place, I guess I shouldn't be disappointed in that.
  14. I think having guests on would really take us to the next level. I'd love to do that and we've discussed it. It's probably coming once we line up some interviews (which we're already doing for regular written content) and figure out the best way to record them for the podcast.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 05:03 PM) Can't link it from my phone, but Norris' tweets on Adams' velocity are very disappointing. Supposedly struggled to hit 90 in the 3rd. Yeah, very disappointing start to the season for him. I was expecting more after his pro debut.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 08:30 PM) Am I the only one who has given up on Davidson? It was a good trade idea, just poorly scouted. Nah, I never had high hopes, but he's certainly looking done. Can't be this bad and expect that big of a turnaround. As for Jordan Guerrero, in my mind he showed enough to not go back to Low-A. Maybe I'm early in jumping on the promote someone bandwagon, but I'd like to see him moved to Winston-Salem before June.
  17. My big take away from opening day is that I forgot how annoying the ads on milb.com are. I like to pin the 4 box scores for the day in my browser and take a peak every so often until the final and they just blow up my computer with all the videos and crap. Also, Courtney Hawkins in AA might unfortunately end with hilarious consequences.
  18. Man, the refs are giving Kaminsky every call and won't call the same foul on him on the other end. My goodness, just call the game if you're going to do that, refs. LOL and then Kaminsky doesn't get a call and loses his mind. That satisfied me.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 18, 2015 -> 04:18 PM) Joe Hart played out of his mind today. Barcelona should have won that game 4-0, but Hart kept City in it. Yeah, that was a great game to watch. Between Barca absolutely dominating with unbelievable combination play and Messi at his best and Hart stopping nearly everything, it was great entertainment.
  20. QUOTE (SnB @ Mar 11, 2015 -> 01:05 PM) The turnover they did with their roster was pretty staggering, we'll see if it works. Why do they seem to always a brutal road game to open up their season? I assume they start on the road to give the weather another week to warm up for the home opener. As for why it's been LA the past two years, good question. The Chelsea-PSG Champions League game finishing up right now has been ruined by the ref. He sent off Zlatan for a pretty standard foul, then didn't call what seemed like a penalty for Chelsea as somewhat of a makeup call and had the trifecta of bad crucial calls for not sending off Diego Costa who went hunting from behind on a PSG player way worse than the Zlatan tackle (gave him a yellow).
  21. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) 1) I hope they open up free agency. 2) What the hell is going on with them? Free agency kind of started with the new CBA so hopefully they continue to open it up over the years. I think the bigger issue is getting rid of single-entity, but that kind of ties into free agency.
  22. MLS anyone? It's opening weekend. Unfortunately, the Fire look bad again.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 02:43 PM) Suarez has 2 goals against City in the Champions League in 45 minutes. He had 7 goals in all games before that. I think Suarez's style of play fits much better in the Premier League. Liverpool was built around him. Barcelona is built around Messi. 9 goals in 23 appearances isn't bad for a 'supporting' striker. Messi is scoring a goal a game. Suarez's Liverpool scoring rate doesn't just get added on top of that. It doesn't work like that. Even dominant teams only have so many scoring chances to go around.
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) I actually enjoy story-driven games, even if they lack traditional gameplay. Heavy Rain would be a perfect example of such a title. And honestly I'm cool with shorter length games, but I can't justify paying $60 for a 5 hour experience. Glad to hear it's a bit longer and that the story/setting is as good as advertised. Like you said, probably worth a shot if it's $30 or less, which is likely in a couple of months. I'm kind of OCD about checking every corner for collectibles so my playthroughs always take longer than most people, but I think it took me about 9 hours. Most normal people clock in probably around 8.
