QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 08:28 PM) The no champion thing is still the worst and most tired argument. It's awful as an argument, but for some reason it seemed to play a factor last year. -

I'm tired of schedule talk already and further angered that I watched an entire college football season only to have Ohio State win the title. What a waste of four months to let those guys win. -

QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) Bielema is a joke. Who is their great out of conference opponent? UT Martin? Maybe the Toledo Rockets? Or maybe he's upset he doesn't have NIU on the schedule this year? When the only ranked opponents on your schedule come from in conference, you really shouldn't talk about another team's weak schedule. I'll give Bama credit, as they seem to schedule some big OOC opponent every year, but the majority of that conference rests on the perception that they're all so great. I'm all for bad mouthing Bielema b****ing about schedules, but why do you need to play strong out of conference opponents to have a strong schedule? Do conference games not count as part of the schedule now? -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 10:03 PM) Well I know you're pretty adept at understanding football, so I won't bother arguing much, but all you have to do is look at his size. You're just screwed because you can't bring him down unless committing to doing so, and as soon as you do that he lights you up with those receiving weapons he has. I don't mean to say Jones is bad. He's definitely the better pro QB prospect as I said. I just think Barrett runs the offense better. That said, it barely matters who is quarterback for OSU. Their schedule is easy and they have plenty of weapons. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 09:42 PM) I can understand questioning it I suppose, but you can't understand it? Barrett is clearly more efficient to me. Jones is not a high percentage passer and seems more mistake prone. He's the better NFL prospect, but why should Ohio State give a s*** about that? -

I will never understand Cardale Jones over J.T. Barrett. -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 03:56 PM) Great start by Adams to probably finish his season off. The Dash released their playoff rotation. It's going to be Fulmer, Yency Almonte, Brennan. If they go to league finals Guerrero and Adams will pitch. Pretty scary rotation when you think about it, no wonder they've dominated in the second half.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) Sports are funny. Mizzou enetered the season with nice lb/db depth and questionable RB and OL depth. So what happens in the first? Our starting RB and C go down with ankles. Hansbrough sounds like he's going to be back next week. Boehm initially returned so I think he'll be fine, too. They didn't need them against SEMO. Hopefully shouldn't need them against Arkansas State either. -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 02:41 PM) Anyone get Mad Max yet? I want to pick it up, but hear it gets a little boring... I haven't, but I was thinking it could be a wait for it to go on sale game. I assume the repetition comes from some of the optional open world stuff (collectibles, unlocking territories, etc.) so if you just beat the story and finish it bare bones it might not be as tedious. If you get it cheaper, playing only part of the game won't be so bad.

Very cool to see White Sox become the Arizona League champs. This draft class is showing well right away. I usually don't put a ton of stock into winning in the minor leagues, but it really is a cool thing when it happens. I'd rather they win than not and there's something about doing it at the lowest level as rookie that makes it extra special. This is largely draft picks and international signings.

Arizona League playoffs currently going on. White Sox in a scoreless battle with the Dodgers in a single elimination game.

Tony Stewart purposefully ran someone over?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 07:48 AM) Almost half of the cars in this race crashed out. That's not the kind of rate that should be happening. This is IndyCar's dilemma: The high horsepower needed to make the road course races interesting also makes many of the oval course races dangerous. Most teams can't afford to have engines of differing horsepowers in order to optimize both types of races, so they've been running the ovals with engines that induce many more crashes than normal. Don't run ovals then? They're boring anyway. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 13, 2015 -> 11:18 PM) Did Adolfo ever return? Did he had a single home run all year? He returned August 3 and went 2-4. August 5 he had one at-bat and hasn't played since. Still homerless.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 13, 2015 -> 07:32 PM) Is it wise to bring him up now? Correct me if I am wrong here. We sign a guy out of high school or less, we control him for 5 years in the minors before we either add him to the 40 man roster or risk losing him in the draft. Bringing him up now means that five year clock is now running, so we lose a year of control all for having him on the AZL roster for 15 games or so. The Sox would know by the time Feliz is 22 whether he's worth protecting or not.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 10:54 PM) Same with Hanleth Otano, which is much more surprising given his performance. The Arizona League team won its division in the first. I'm assuming they are adding prospects to the roster to get some playoff experience. That seems to be the org. way, even in the Arizona League.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 08:35 PM) As fan I would much rather have nbc keep it then it be on espn being relegated, , for extensive cfb coverage on Saturday mornings and nfl pregame on Sundays Supposedly that's why ESPN didn't bid for it by themselves. Too many football commitments in the fall that overlap with more than 1/3 of the season. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 05:04 PM) Honestly the only game coverage I like best on ESPN is their fantastic CFB coverage. I prefer TNT for hoops. Fox for NFL. MLBN for baseball. NBC for hockey/soccer. I guess that's true. The things I watch most are soccer, NBA, college football and tennis. I'll give you TNT's NBA coverage is much better, but I think that's just the studio show (Inside the NBA) guys being better. The announcing teams are the same to me. The other three sports I think ESPN does really well. They do a really nice job with the tennis majors. ESPN is great for MLS and USMNT coverage. I don't watch the NFL to care about that. I thought ESPN's hockey coverage was great. I don't think NBC is doing it any better now. Obviously ESPN ignores it now because they don't carry it. -

QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) If they had teamed back up with FOX, that would've been bad quality AND bad volume. NBC has no such conflicts. We would not "have been fine" if the rights had gone back to some FOX/ESPN partnership. It would've been a massive step back. The article I linked to makes this argument more thoroughly than I just did. I assume Fox would have had the bulk of the coverage when ESPN didn't have it and the same amount of games would air on TV. Fox Sports 1 did well with the Women's World Cup and I enjoyed their MLS and Gold Cup coverage. I don't think it would be a massive jump backwards. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) Agreed. First, I hate ESPN, so I'm biased. Second, my thoughts about ESPN being bad fit for EPL is nicely summarized in 3gtl post, especially the volume thought. My fear is they would have given 85% to the Manchester clubs, about 13% to CFC, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham and then remaining to the rest. I believe NBC has done a great job of handling their analyst by not talking down to newer viewers but also going in-depth and satisfying more familiar viewers, in my mind, ESPN would have been way more ham-handed in their approach. NBC was in a perfect spot to handle it as they could make it their anchor sport, and in my mind a much better fit. You can hate ESPN for their yelling, screaming debate shows, but their game coverage is still as good as it gets. Ultimately, that's all that matters. Also, NBC shows the big clubs just as heavily as what you're saying so I'm not sure that point is fair to ESPN either. People get so worked up over what network sports are aired on, but I just want to watch the games and I don't give a s*** what channel it's on. Just let me watch the sport in HD. Only when the announcers are terrible (Gus Johnson or the English Univision MLS play-by-play guy) does the network matter to me. As long as I can watch I'm happy. Thus it 'would have been fine.' -

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 11:13 AM) NBC is doing a great job and the bold above is my exact thoughts. ESPN would have totally ruined the coverage, very happy to see NBC is extending. ESPN has set the standard for soccer coverage in this country so I don't know how they could have ruined the coverage. In fact, they had the Premier League rights before NBC and basically showed the league has value in this country. Fox has been inconsistent to me (Gus Johnson announcing Champions League was embarrassing and insulting), but ESPN is still the best at covering soccer. If the rights moved, we would have been fine. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 12:28 AM) I didn't even notice that Rondon is in AAA. Ooof. Talk about do or die. I assume Rondon's AAA stint will be shortlived, although I wouldn't mind them putting him into a utility role maybe next year. If his glove is as good as advertised he could be a nice bench guy. Wouldn't hurt to see if he can handle the mentality that requires though.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 07:09 PM) Johan Cruz down in GF has probably pack on some muscle/weight the past 2 years. He went from a SS with 40 steals potential to a now 3B who hasn't attempted a steal this season. Though the spike in slugging is definitely a welcoming sign. If I recall he wasn't very good at SS, but I can't speak towards a change in his speed/steals.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 09:25 PM) Watched him play, but he only made a couple throws. Seemed plenty strong enough arm-wise for short. Talking to a scout, he said he's got the arm for short, but it's not a strength for him either. I'd say he's average-ish arm-wise at SS. He's probably a 2B long-term. The big league club would tell you that being a solid 2B isn't nothing to sneeze at. Then again, that could be Tim Anderson's spot for a while.
-
Anderson sure is skinny, huh? I love seeing Alvarez killing it in Winston-Salem. Give him a look in spring training next year and figure out if he's a piece for the future. He will and should start next season in AA, but keep him on a fast track if possible.
