QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 07:49 PM) We did get a lot of great Darth Maul characterization in The Clone Wars. Since that remains canon, that's why I'd love to see a death match (that we of course know the outcome) between Darth Maul and Obi-Wan, who have basically lost it all. I actually thought the arc with Maul in the Clone Wars was a bastardization of the character. I liked following that animated series, but they had some bad story arcs. I was excited to see Maul, but they ruined him IMO.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 03:06 PM) Darth Maul was a good part of the prequels. Such a wasted villain. Yeah, having Maul make it through a couple movies and replacing Dooku would have added a badass factor to the prequels that were missing once Maul was killed. I don't have a lot to add in terms of story interpretation, but I enjoyed it although was a bit annoyed at how similar to A New Hope it was. They nailed the little things though. The first sentence in the opening scroll: "Luke Skywalker has disappeared." was a fantastic setup. They're going to have to come up with a serious explanation as to why he bailed though. Didn't seem to fit with his character. The callbacks to the original movies were great. Harrison Ford was great. I have 3 things I hope to see in Episode 8/the future movies: 1. Start off right where Force Awakens left off. If you're going to leave us hanging for a year and a half like this and build up to that moment, please actually give us that moment. 2. Kylo Ren has to stay a villain. No turning back like Vader. We've already seen them hint at it as a possibility. Him killing Han Solo in that scene was inevitable (also possibly because Harrison Ford may not have wanted to do 3 more movies), but don't let him turn later. We did that already and after this movie was so much like A New Hope, I don't want the rest of the trilogy to follow a similar arc as well. 3. Rey isn't of Skywalker blood. I wouldn't be devastated if this is true, but I want something different. Maybe she was a prized student of Luke and he hid her to protect her. I can go with that. They strongly avoided any chance she is Han and Leia's kid. Don't make her Luke's daughter by default.

This team does need a kick up its ass. Weird that it had to come from a player though. Hopefully Hoiberg learns. He does seem to be learning on the job.

Is poor defense the new market inefficiency?
danman31 replied to QuickJones81's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:39 PM) eh it's sorta simple -- it's just based on outs and how often a play gets turned into one and then an out is worth so and so runs and thus wins. That said, how you measure an out defensively is pretty contentious. I'm inclined to agree with the OP that it can be over valued but Heyward's deal isn't a good example. H is also pretty good offensively (121 wRC+ with the bat and can motor on the bases) and if anyone is proven elite defensively it's him. It was a rhetorical question for me. I know how they come up with the numbers. -

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 10:00 PM) Defensive metrics are still not as reliable as I'd like, but a run saved on defense is the same as a run created on offense, right? It's about how often those opportunities come up. A hitter gets 3-5 at-bats per game. Defensively, how many non-routine plays can you make in a game and how many does it take to actually "save" a run? -
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 02:19 AM) Why wouldn't I get it if it's free? Because you said it wasn't your type of game and it's not going to be free. It's a gigantic game with a big production cost, which is what I was eluding to.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 01:51 AM) Do you buy every major production game that is released, even if it is not a type of game you enjoy or are interested in buying, simple because you feel some sort of guilt or people getting paid to work it on for years?? What a weird comment to make. Then don't buy it. Don't wait for it to be free.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 02:15 AM) Played Fallout 4 for a couple hours at a friends house. Thought it was pretty cool. Still not my type of game, but if I were to get it for free or like $10 on some Steam sale, I probably would play it. LOL, Fallout 4 is one of the biggest productions of the year that hundreds of people worked on for years. Meanwhile, you're willing to throw them a bone for $10, or 83% off. How generous of you. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 02:20 AM) There is an option to turn it off...right in the game options. http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/05/27/tu...ox-playstation/ I know that. He did it himself. I tried it originally and then stopped using it.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) I'm finally getting around to playing Watchdogs and I'm finding it quite annoying that other players can come in and interrupt my game while I'm playing. I've never been a big fan of the online play for open world games. I tried it a little bit on GTA5 and Red Dead Redemption but didn't really like it. But at least those games gave you the choice of when you did and didn't want to play with other players. There's so much other stuff to do and I get so little time to play that I simply don't have time to mess around with someone else. So I finally just shut off the internet connection. Problem solved. Yeah, I found this pretty annoying, too. From a gameplay standpoint it wasn't that bad, but it didn't always work. But as you said, I'm doing s***, leave me alone. I did like that game though.

That's cool that you can do that in Fallout, but if you love shooting rockets into the sky just get Just Cause 3. That's the entire game.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:16 AM) MLS final was pretty entertaining. Not the best display for the league but it was enjoyable flipping back and forth between that and the NFL games Outside the shocking opening goal I thought the game was solid quality. I don't know what the best display is supposed to mean. -
Why is Derrick Rose getting the final possession? Butler is the far better 1-on-1 player. Rose just throws up crappy shots at the end of games now.

QUOTE (RegionSox @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) The Expanse is a new show starting on SYFY on Dec 15th. They have the first episode up on Youtube to watch. I've read the first 4 books and it's a pretty good series. https://youtu.be/FvZeQD1Vf2s Thanks for mentioning this. I saw the original trailers a while ago, but forgot about it. Checking it out now. I like the premise.

How does Naughty Dog do it? I'm starting to think they are actual wizards or something. This looks insanely good. Can't wait.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 10:02 PM) I think Rhodes would have preferred Odom with 1-2 more years as a DC or head coach at a smaller program, but its clear this staff saw him as a future HC and went with him. That D had a lot of talent, but they also were top 15 with one of the worst offenses in division 1 in terms of holding TOP and field position. Yeah, there will probably be some learning on the job, but Odom keeps it in house, which I think was the most important thing with the hire. -

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 08:07 PM) Thank you. We're two epic 4th quarter collapses (Oklahoma and Florida) away from playing in the SEC title game and a shot at the playoff. We lost to Bama by 5 and our kicker missed 3 field goals that game. At no point were we outmatched. They just made plays at the end to win. Tennessee came back from 21 down against Georgia and was tied going into the fourth quarter and only won by 3 in Tennessee against an awful South Carolina team. The Vols broke even this year. Can't whine about the close losses and forget the close wins. You don't win or lose all those games, as happened with Tennessee this season. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 05:08 PM) The Big Ten is the best conference in the country right now, at least judging by rankings. I was referring to last year. This year it's better, but also a lot of other leagues are down. SEC and Pac 12 are way down. Big 12 has some strong teams, if you decide to believe in them. -
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 05:34 PM) Looks like an awful list. I especially love Westbrook in as the 13th best OVERALL prospect in baseball, when Farnsworth ranked him the 14th best IN THE DIAMONDBACKS SYSTEM. Of course it's an awful list. It wasn't supposed to be a good list. It was just to show what the stats say. It's supposed to make you think, then you move on. You're not supposed to make b****y comments about how bad it is because player X should be rated higher/lower.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 11:32 AM) Its still their schedule and they have a horrible loss. We will see this season what the committee values. Not to compare one-for-one, but OU has a horrible loss, too. Now everybody is on that bandwagon. I guess my point is bad losses can be forgiven if you have good wins more recently. UNC doesn't have those now, but if they beat Clemson it becomes a tough argument. Maybe more similar to Ohio State last year, who had a horrible loss and only had to play in the Big Ten the rest of the way. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) "Obviousy, it’s not ideal, but for now, I don’t think it will put a dagger in the heart of the program" That's a real quote on Illinois' AD hiring Cubit. I wish I was making that up. A lot of stories took the quote out of context, but a few didn't. That quote was referring to the length of the contract. So it actually was "[The two-year contract] obviously, it's not ideal, but for now, I don't think it will put a dagger in the heart of the program." The last part of the quote is still weird, but usually coaches don't sign two-year contracts when their contract is up. It's not ideal to recruit players for the next 4-5 years when the coach is signed on for 2 and his future is clearly up in the air. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 11:04 PM) Nothing would surprise me with Northwestern, good or bad, but they will win at least 8 games with their schedule. I'd be surprised if they don't win 9. The Big Ten West is historically bad, there's no game left they can't win. They still host Penn State and Purdue, which should be fairly comfortable wins. I still don't buy that Illinois is any good (they've played OK for two straight weeks, but that's still a team that lost to North Carolina by 34 points). Iowa isn't anything special and they come to Evanston next week. Road games at Wisconsin and Nebraska are tough only because they're road games, those teams are entirely average. No Northwestern fade this year. Cats won 10 games because they beat the bad teams they played and avoided OSU/MSU from the other division. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 28, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) There is no doubt in my mind OSU is the class of the Big Ten. When they get it going no one stops them. I just think they took too many plays and opponents for granted this season and a lot of their games were tight for a lot longer than they should have been. I think of they somehow get back into the playoff, they have a great chance of winning it all. It appears they realize they need to play full games now. Michigan had no shot the second half. I'd argue OSU was just pissed off after a loss. Doesn't necessarily mean they learned anything. -
Okafor is 19, suddenly has a lot of money, is on a potentially record-setting winless team and is apparently being heckled in bad ways. I'm willing to give him a break. Of course, this is why the rest of us go to college at that age. Do your stupid s*** in an environment that allows for some of it and has a support system in place.
