QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 01:12 PM) If Rondon hits, he's obviously a guy who can move up the lists quickly. Michalczewski looks good so far too, could see him moving up, though he's not really a dark horse. Pitchers like Montas and Lopez will be back from injury soon and could move up quickly. I would be shocked if Michalczewski gets promoted. He's young enough to finish a full year and still be well ahead of pace.

Ahh, I missed the extra brackets. I think you should probably add the adjustment (whether it be positive or negative) to batters faced and not outs. Outs is the constant. How many batters to get this number of outs. Batters faced is the variable that evaluates the pitcher. Not convinced the stat has any value either way.

Why are you subtracting hits twice? You correct for BABIP and then subtract hits a second time.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 08:59 AM) He was pretty touted in high school in Cali. I believe he made varsity as a freshman. (good pitcher and hitter) He was the captain of the team as a senior which speaks volume about his character. Athletic kid (white sox M.O., 2 sports) Add to that, he's hispanic, so two thumbs up there. Probably would have been a higher pick if he went to college. He is definitely known for his good changeup. Jon has actually seen him, so I'm sure he can give background on his stuff. I've only seen reports about his velocity fluctuating from high 80s to low 90s. (might be a guess why sox have him in the bullpen now...) Many of the players good enough to get drafted out of high school were on varsity as freshmen. Almost all of them were team captains as seniors. Anyone who is that head and shoulders above his teammates is typically named team captain. That's just how high school sports work.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 10:46 PM) Moyes was utterly dreadful. Just the antithesis of everything United was supposed to be about. United have won enough that I'd gladly take years of no trophies, as long as the club wasn't actively hurting itself and the football was watchable. Hell, you're almost as likely to find me at 7th-tier FC United as you are to find me at Old Trafford, so it's not all about the trophies to me. It's easy to say it's not about the trophies when they flow in regularly. -
Watching the West playoffs is insane. Serious question: would the Pacers even make the playoffs in the West? They were seven games better than the 8 seed Mavs. Would they have lost seven more games if they were playing more games against the West instead of the East?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 08:47 PM) Seems like a Jon Garland start before he started getting some more K's in the 2nd half of his White Sox career. I don't mean to pick on you, but I've seen Garland's name come up from a few posters in reference to pitchers that don't strike a lot of batters out (Beck discussion). Garland trended just above 6 K/9 in his minor league career. He also posted a 2.26 ERA in 103.2 in AAA as a 20-year-old. I just want to point out that Garland will compare favorably with just about any of these pitchers we're worried about not striking out enough batters.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) Why hasn't anyone corrected Hawk yet about his Marcus Semien MVP in AA and AAA thing? Chris Colabello won the International League MVP in AAA..... I was too busy making a sandwich to post earlier, ha. -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 08:25 PM) Marcus' xWTWfLog3 is off the charts at 4.0008 Ha. Hawk just said he was the MVP of two leagues last year. This is how the tall tales start. Semien was the MVP of the Southern League, but he only played 32 games with AAA Charlotte. -

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) I really think it was the right decision. Even factoring in that it's a transitional period for the club, and that they had an awful summer with Ed Woodward overseeing his first transfer window, and an aging squad, that's no excuse for going from 1st to 7th. Even worse is the performance. You can forgive some poor results if there are signs of positive performances. But that just hasn't been the case. Last year Liverpool were disappointing under Brendan Rogers, but you could see exactly what his strategy was, and exactly what he was trying to do with that team. I cannot say the same about Moyes. He seems very defensive, more concerned with stopping opponents than trying to win games, it feels. Perhaps naive tactically too, no power, pace or creativity to United's game, they simply bang some crosses into the box and hope someone gets on the end of them, very one-dimensional and therefore easy to play against. And that's been the case more or less from his first game to his last. No signs of progression or improvement. As for a successor, I really like Jurgen Klopp. Love the way he has set up his Dortmund teams. Exciting attacking sides full of creativity and purpose. Liverpool wasn't disappointing last season. Their younger pieces from that team have improved this year. I'm not saying Moyes shouldn't go, but to hate the man enough to say he should eat s*** is extreme unless you're a United fan. If you're a United fan, you deserve several more of these seasons. Being in the top 4 so regularly is unnatural, you can "suffer" with only being above average for a year without crying about it like it's the worst thing ever. Man U's roster coupled with injuries wasn't a top four team. Getting in the top four has never been tougher with six other teams spending big and not being in rebuilding mode like Liverpool was in recent years. I would have given Moyes more time based on the on the field product, but some of the things he said to the press really blew my mind. Blaming his players, saying the team wasn't good enough, etc. He may not have been wrong, but that's not going to inspire anything out of the team. That's why you fire him, not directly because of the results on the field. Everyone likes Klopp, but Man U is going to need a drastic roster turnover if they want to resemble anything remotely like those Dortmund teams. Dortmund has had far more quality than United the past two seasons. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 11:37 PM) To everyone saying the Bulls don't need Melo or Rose to return and that championships can be won on defense alone: Go f*** yourself. I'd rather keep watching this group than watch Melo bring this team down to the ground.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 11:32 PM) Makes you wonder If Thibs is right man to lead Bulls to a title. He's not.

It now sounds like you are looking in the wrong spot. The Playstation Store is a bit confusing, but there should be a thing on the left for Instant Game Collection or PS+, whatever, as well as a separate thing where you can re-up/buy PS+. It's possible you are just clicking on the latter and not the former. Also, discounted games don't 'show up.' You look up the game and if it has an available discount it will have an PS+ logo indicating a cheaper price. It will show that whether or not you are subscribed to Plus or not.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 05:28 PM) Well it's not that way on PS3 then. On the PS3 I go to the Playstation Plus section and it shows me all the discounted and free games. When I go to the Playstation Plus section on the PS4, every tile says "SIGN UP!" and has the different pricing plans. I can't even see any of the free or discounted games and when I click the "free games with playstation plus" tile, it asks me which option I want to sign up for. I may not be seeing it for whatever reason, but it's certainly not working the same as it did on the PS3. It sounds like something is wrong, but I would go to the Playstation website and check your account to make sure everything is kosher.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) Perhaps. I loved the draft pick. Overslot guy who has lots of potential. Hoping the power comes along. http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/mino...-keeps-bashing/ I liked the pick as well and he's showing what you want from a young hitter: walks and average. His contact rate is actually low so maybe the average will fall, but even for a power prospect I want to see on-base skills. Power comes last. Patience can be developed as well, but it's always better to start with it. As a sidenote, I got a laugh out of that scouting blurb. The expected athleticism of a high school tight end? Clearly this guy hasn't seen the same high school tight ends I have. High school shortstop says more about his athleticism than high school tight end. Brad Goldberg 5 K, 1 BB tonight in 6 IP. He has 16 K and 6 BB in 19.1 IP, but a 6.52 ERA. We may need to stick to raw K:BB numbers for the Dash pitching staff if their defense is as bad as the error total. Kanny's starting infield has 26 errors combined. Unearned runs help pitchers' stats a bit, but if they are bad defenders, you also need to factor for the balls they aren't even getting to and aren't errors. Wendelken (17 K, 2 BB in 22.1 IP, 3.63 ERA), Bucciferro (8 K, 1 BB in 17.1 IP, 3.63 ERA) and Recchia (21 K, 5 BB in 15.1 IP, 4.11 ERA) also seem to have higher ERAs than their peripherals would indicate.

Should NCAA (baseball) go to 64 game tourney played in MLB parks?
danman31 replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
So the title of the post has nothing to do with the content of the post. Nice job. The NCAA tourney for baseball currently has 64 teams and is double elimination. If they put the games in MLB parks, the stadiums would be 3/4 (at least) empty and the atmospheres would be awful. The atmosphere at a hosted regional/super regional is typically very good. I went to one myself several years back and really enjoyed it. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 09:33 PM) Someday, you too will find your Fred Hoiberg. Except Iowa State sucks at football and has a better history of basketball. Either way, very happy to have Haith gone. Christmas came early. I thought we'd have to wait for him to inevitably fail to make the tournament next year before we would fire him. Now he's gone and we don't have to pay him. This is fantastic. Only can go up from here. The real shame is when Anderson left we had three players that would play in the NBA for the next coach to inherit. Haith left a relative wasteland for the next guy. -

Glad someone brought up Tyler. He's seriously killing the ball. Had another good day today. His bat can play. His defense isn't bad. I don't think he is a MLB SS, but maybe 3B or 2B.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 05:05 PM) I got Titanfall, Forza 5, and Dead Rising 3 is coming today. It's definitely more fun than the PS4 so far. Titanfall and Dead Rising don't interest me a whole lot, but I saw Forza demoing at a Gamestop and was absolutely stunned at how good that game looks. I tried to play, but I think the kinect was freaking out or something because it wasn't responding to the controller very well. I love my PS4, but I'm definitely interested in getting an XBox One if there's a huge exclusive that interests me. Also, I want them to port over the Halo games after 2. I never got to finish 3 and haven't have a 360 after college. I'm sure that's coming down the road at some point.
