Bill Mitchell @billazbbphotog · 14h 13 hours ago Micker Adolfo just hit a foul ball that traveled well over 400 feet. #plusrawpower #whitesox FutureSox.com @FutureSox · 13h 13 hours ago Plate discipline: @jnorris427: Also, #Whitesox Micker Adolfo is 1-1 on the day with a double. He just worked a walk after being down 0-2. Bill Mitchell @billazbbphotog · 13h 13 hours ago This time it was fair! Micker Adolfo with a HR to LF. Not as long as the one that went foul, but this one counted. #whitesox

  7. Wow, Man Utd go down 5-3 at Leicester after leading 3-1. They are going to provide plenty of entertainment this year. World class attack. Di Maria in particular has looked excellent and they're going to score goals. Defensively though they are so frail. There's not an above average defender in their squad (and there may not even be an average defender). I think Blind and Herrera are too lightweight in the center of the park also, and can't give the defense enough cover. They need an all-action midfield enforcer, someone like Vidal or Strootman, plus a top class center back (Benatia would have been a good fit but he went to Bayern) or Hummels, someone of that ilk. Still a long way for them to go. There have been some good game this weekend, especially for me as a West Ham fan. 3-1 win against Liverpool was a great result and performance. Steven Gerrard was invisible during this game, as was the case during the World Cup and towards the end of last season. He's been a great servant for Liverpool but I think he's done and is only holding them back now. As for my Hammers, I'm loving all the summer signings made by the club. Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia offer pace, power, determination and work rate in attack and give the team a new dimension going forward that has not been present at any point during Sam Allardyce's reign. Cheikhou Kouyate has looked studly in the heart of midfield and could become a top quality player (he has been compared to both Yaya Toure and Patrick Vieira this year leading to the nickname Yaya Vieira... nothing but realistic expectations there!). Alex Song's class and quality on the ball is a cut above. Aaron Cresswell looks very solid at left-back. Zarate brings some much needed flair and creativity. The midfield trio of Song, Kouyate and Noble can be a real strong point and Downing looks a completely different player after a disappointing debut campaign last year. Most importantly I am really happy that the club have decided to move away from signing old players who are past their peak to signing younger (though admittedly unproven) talent that can improve and develop and help to take the club to the next level (competing for European places in the next year or two, hopefully). A lot of reasons to be positive right now. (Hopefully I'm not overrating to what may prove to be just a fast start...)
  8. Hat-trick for Diego Costa today. I think he's the perfect striker for Chelsea. He's not the quickest, most creative, skillful type of striker who can make something for himself, but they don't need that with players like Fabregas, Hazard, Oscar et al. Costa's positioning, anticipation and movement in the box is amazing, and his finishing is clinical. As long as he keeps the hamstring problems under control there's a very good chance he finishes as top scorer in the league.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 01:48 PM) Gillaspie has the 9th best OPS among major league 3B. Maybe the Sox should look at LF, DH, and C first??? Because I think that trading the farm to get one of the top 8 3B and leaving three other black holes in the lineup probably isn't going to produce good results. But do you have any faith in Gillaspie's ability to repeat this production over the long term though? We know he doesn't walk a lot or hit for power so in order to be a valuable hitter he needs to maintain a high batting average. This year his BABIP is 40 points above his career average (.340 vs .300). In all liklihood he will go back to being the .260/.320/.400 type hitter next year that he was expected to be. Given his below average defensive ability this will make him a replacement level player, leaving 3B as another "black hole" to fill. I hope Hahn flips Gillaspie this offseason as I don't think his trade value will ever be higher, especially if he finishes the year strong and ends up with a .300+ AVG.
  10. Kiley McDaniel is now doing the top prospect lists at FanGraphs. His first one is up for the Rangers and it is excellent. I will be looking forward to his White Sox list. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/evaluating-...-texas-rangers/ Such a monumental step up from the stuff Marc Hulet used to churn out.
  11. Bassitt starting to get interesting. Larry at SSS noted that his slider is much improved this year. I wouldn't doubt him based on the K% since his return. He's looking more and more like a possible back of rotation arm/high leverage reliever now.
  12. So Barcelona have spent around £30m on Jeremy Mathieu and Thomas Vermaelen. 2 aging, kind of average CB's. Seems an interesting/odd move.
  13. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) I know he makes excellent defense plays, but he has 24 errors so far this season. If Alexei had 24 errors in Chicago we would be crucifying him. You guys are making me feel real s***ty playing devil's advocate on this guy because I really do like his tools, but I am just pointing out he's very raw. He's 20, of course he's raw. Young, inexperienced players with great range are going to make errors. Andrelton Simmons made 28 errors as an older 21 year old in A+. Elvis Andrus regularly put up 30+ error seasons in the Minors, Alcides Escobar has several 20 error seasons (and even a 40 error season). They all became excellent defensive MLB SS's. If there are bad scouting reports and errors you can be concerned (Tim Anderson, perhaps). When everyone is calling him a plus-plus defender and he is making errors it's not a concern.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) I'm sorry but Jake Peter being rated so highly is ridiculous, although not quite as bad as Semien being in the the sub category. Marcus won the AA MVP last year, has performed extremely well at AAA other than being unlucky, and yet you judge him based on a month or so of big league plate appearances when he had essentially skipped AAA? On the other hand, you base Peter's high rating on a small sample of inflated Pioneer League stats. I know these lists are just for fun, but the above bothers me greatly. Those two should be flipped definitely. I can't see Peter as more than a tier 4 type at this moment. If he maintains elite contact rates going forward then he'll move up but right now he's just a 7th round college guy who was beating up on rookie ball.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 10:12 PM) Oh, there's some arguing. Not a lot though. On most guys, all six of us were close, like within 3-4 slots or less of each other most of the time. In case people are curious, the players who had the widest differences between voters (standard regression, if you will), and might be the hardest to evaluate: Adams (4 to 11) Adolfo (11 to 18) Rondon (8 to 19) May (10 to 26) Fry (12 to 25) Thompson (13 to 24) Barnum (16 to 29) Not surpisingly, most of those guys are on the raw side. Thompson not so much, but he's just a tough guy to project right now. Snodgress also from I think 14 to my un-ranked.
  16. A fun look at how awesome Kenley Jansen is, featuring plenty of .gif's. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/finding-ken...at-his-meanest/
  17. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) Any word on whether it's gonna be more than just a couple innings? I haven't seen anything but I doubt it. He has 'started' already for the AZL team and went 2 innings, so this isn't something new.
  18. Victor Done's final line: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 SO, 2.33 GO/AO
  19. Done so far: 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 SO He's another IFA guy that will hopefully emerge alongside Luis Martinez. Had an 11.35 K/9 and 3.90 GO/AO coming into this game. Control needs work though (6.14 BB/9).
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 07:59 PM) Sweet Jesus does Adolfo have a catastrophic K rate. This level might be too high for him to get better. That would make Jared Mitchell blush. Tough call for the Sox to get him near our best instructors but still try to keep the competition level manageable. 40% K% is really not so bad for his age, and as has been mentioned he's displaying good power with at least a reasonable ability to draw a walk. Overall I would say his performance has been encouraging. Obviously the K% will need to come down in the future but for now it's not a huge concern. I was worried that he might come out this year and slash .150/.180/.270 or something in that range. I definitely think he's in the right place.
  21. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 04:14 PM) Also love that Rondon came in the top 25, even though 14 might be a little high but I have no real complaints. Rondon is an interesting one to rank due to the lack of offensive ability. I think prospects like him are usually underrated on lists like this, but I think his defensive ability alone males him the most likely Major Leaguer outside of the top 10. Even if he never becomes more than a replacement level hitter his glove will still allow him to be a positive contributor. Also, while the sample size in A+ is still too small to take any real value from, his 12.8 K% is very encouraging and if he can maintain a
  22. Luis Martinez done: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER (HR), 2 BB, 6 SO, 5 GB/1 FB
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 02:54 AM) Great Falls Voyagers ‏@gfvoyagers 1m Great Falls adds 4 in the 3rd on a 3R 3B from @JWPeezy4 and an RBI 1B from @PatrickPalmeiro! 5-0 Voyagers after 3. That's Jake Peter by the way. Kid is tearing it up. He's looking to get that average back up over .400 after hitting a measly .330 in July.
  24. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 03:53 AM) Atletico got raided this offseason. They won't be much of a contender. You're probably right but I think Griezmann is an excellent signing. Mandzukic has been a top striker the past 2 seasons, and Atletico have had great success signing/developing strikers with Torres, Forlan, Aguero, Falcao and Costa, so I wouldn't bet against him being a success. Oblak, though still very young, has a chance to be a top GK. Siqueira should be at least an adequate replacement for Filipe Luis. I wouldn't expect them to repeat last years achievements but they shouldn't be too far off.
  25. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 04:12 PM) Danish will be on a lot of lists at season's end. The timing of the mid-season lists had his early high A struggles fresh in some minds, but he's obviously adjusted well. He should be Top 50 or better. Only the lazy he-looks-like-a-reliever crowd will keep him out of the Top 20, which is where he belongs. He's our best prospect after Rodon. I'd be surprised if he ranks that highly. He may sneak into the back of some top 100's but I wouldn't expect more than that.
