Barons Announce 24 Man Roster By Alex Ernst April 7, 2004 FutureSox.com The 2004 Birmingham Barons, led by new manager Razor Shines, announced their Opening Day roster. The pitching staff is led by All-FutureSox preseason team pitcher Kris Honel. Jim Bullard, subject of the last FutureSox chat, will also be traveling to Birmingham for the upcoming season. Besides Bullard and Honel, the pitching staff also includes Arnaldo Munoz, who spent last season in Charlotte. He is being converted to a starter this year and the Sox decided with the stellar rotation in Charlotte to give him a chance to ease into the starting role at Birmingham. Tetsu Yofu also pitched for Charlotte last year, as well as Birmingham, and he was bounced around from starter to reliever to closer. He is projected to begin this year in the starting rotation. 2003 saves leader Jeff Bajenaru will be back with the Barons in 2004. Ryan Meaux, Heath Phillips, Matt Smith and Dennis Ulacia all spent time with the Barons last year and return again for this upcoming season. Kristopher Keller is the new face to the organization, spending last season with Chattanooga, Louisville and Portland, as well as Brian McNichol. Wyatt Allen, Josh Fields and Preseason All-FutureSox team pitcher Ryan Wing round out the staff. Fields and Wing will start out the season on the DL. Jonathan Aceves and Carlos Maldonado return to the Barons catching corps this year. Chris Stewart will join the Barons despite a somewhat lackluster season in Winston-Salem last year, batting .207 with two home runs and 27 RBI. Aceves will start the season on the DL. Speedster Ruddy Yan moves up to the Birmingham infield from Winston-Salem this year, bringing along with him Mike Morse. Morse slugged 10 homers and 55 RBI last year in Winston Salem. Aaron McNeal spent last season in Reading, where he had a nice season at the plate as far as power numbers with 13 home runs and 71 RBI, but he still lacked some at the plate, batting only .234. Josh Shaffer and Guillermo Reyes return to Birmingham this year, while Rob Sasser spent parts of last year in Bowie, Omaha and Ottawa. Birmingham will carry four outfielders in 2004, with none returning as stars Scott Bikowski and Jeremy Reed move up to Charlotte. Nate Murphy comes down from Charlotte after hitting .238 with eight homers and 15 RBI, while Michael Spidale has been bumped up from Winston Salem. Darren Blakely joins the Barons from Brocton of the Independent League while Micah Franklin joins the team from Japan. Note: The easy-to-read format of the Barons roster will be up soon.

I know we sure check forv mistakes like that.
-
Jason, you realize you forgot a catcher? Or are you trying to make a statement about catching depth in the organization. Also, Barons roster will be up shortly on FutureSox.

http://www.postherald.com/sp040504.shtml I didn't know if this was posted...
-
Just as a side note, my sleeper pick if he gets good playing time will be Scott Bikowski....the man led the SL in average last year.
-
Also, I know I am comitted to this, pretty sure about Jason too, that we won't ever charge money for this stuff. We opened the store if you'd like to help, or I suppose you could send Jas a 5-spot through the mail, but we have no plans to offer any special benefits for donations (like another Website) except you'll be in good graces.
-
I don't think Jas wver had over 4 million hits per month in mind when he signed up for this gig. Yeah, that's the best way to help. Buying stuff out of the store will help defray costs.

Did anyone honestly, here, as a Sox fan, see the potential for the numbers he put up in Pitt as a member of the Sox? I sure as hell didn't.
-
Now we just need RPS and HSC.
-
I'm tired of hearing about f***ing Kip Wells.....just because he succeded in Pitt doesn't mean that he'd do well here. How do you know that he didn't turn around because of a coach he had in Pittsburgh. Besides, I still think it was the move to make at the time. We needed another starter. I may not have the facts on this, but we ened to stop b****ing about it. What says that Wells and Fogg wouldn't be in Charlotte right now if they were still in our system.

We lost 9-0, I lost my singles match 0-10 and doubles 1-10....Apparently, their team is a favorite to get to state, and I got to see why.

Tennis season starts tomorrow against Iowa Falls. I'm captain of the tennis team this year.....we only have six people...I'm slated to go 4th seed as I've had some horrible intersquad matches. Now, I'm taking the Schoeneweis angle, by claiming I was only working on my serves during those matches, not all of my pitches....er .... strokes. I'll tell ya guys how I did tomorrow nite.
-
Rex, You seem to know a lot about the Sox minors. I've been hearing a lot about this Jeremy Reed character. Is he any goood?
-
8 months....
-
Cool. Any big hilites?
-
Cool Rex. I don't think i'm gonna do it tonite though without all the height info and stuff. Too much work already today.
