O's and Sox "getaway day" game thread
QUOTE (Scoots @ Jun 15, 2017 -> 04:40 AM) I think I heard Stoney yesterday say the Sox have the best batting average in the league since May 16. That's pretty darn good for a rebuilding team. That's shocking

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 05:42 PM) I bet he's referring to Austin Beck "There was a time in the third round where we were targeting a high school guy and got picked," Hostetler said. "We got picked three different times on high school players."

Painful and Difficult situation
QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 06:32 PM) ... I did read that he put himself in a situation where he had no support that knew of his past and that he was still spending time around minors. Not sure what minors means in this context. Still, that isn't something he should have done and if his counseling was any good he would know that. That is a huge red flag. Thanks for your thoughts in a couple of places here. Can you expound upon the above, as I haven't come across it and don't have your background. Also, what do you think of the fact that this abuse happened for two years starting when the victim was 4 and ending when she was 6? I understand completely what you mean about being kept up at night by being exposed to this sort of trauma. Been there. The concept of secondary victim or trauma by proxy is real.

Also found it fun to learn that Hiura was from my high school and Greene was from the same town as well. Santa Clarita valley represented hard core this draft.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 05:44 PM) Would be interesting to know if they would have taken Adell or Burger...or Hiura. Yea I would have loved to see how they ranked the "5 players" they had on their board.

Painful and Difficult situation
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) That's kind of my point. If this had come out like 3 years ago, he would be drafted by now, right? This can't be a death sentence for this kid, it was just bad timing for his career. How long is the appropriate amount of time until a team can give him a chance again? It's just kind of an interesting societal case study, that's mostly related to Public Relations blow back. Who knows what the ramifications would have been if the story broke 3 years ago. Maybe he wouldn't have even played college ball.

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) Callis raves about White Sox draft This was just posted today, have yet to listen to it yet however. I'm currently listening. Says on Sheets that he was surprised that he was there for us at pick 47. Says that we may have the best value pick out of round 7 for a guy that he had as a round 2 pick. Thinks our second day over all was the second best draft, first being the Twins. Not directly related to the draft but he also says Robert would have been considered for 1-1 and is comparable to Lewis.

Orioles vs White Sox 7:10 Pm
QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 08:18 PM) we need to stop winning games.. a few more losses last season and we would have had haseley This is one reason why I hope people start to understand the importance of every loss. 3 more losses in 2015 and we have Benetindi instead of Fulmer. 7 more losses in 2016 and we'd have Haseley instead of Burger. Benetindi Moncada Kopech Robert Giolito Haseley Lopez Or Moncada Kopech Robert Giolito Lopez Fulmer Burger The difference was about 10 losses over 2 seasons.

Painful and Difficult situation
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 01:41 AM) Through 10 rounds and no one picked him. So is this kid's life over or what? He's what... 21? He's got a lot of life ahead of him and will get his chance to "be judged for the person (he) is today" - as he pined for in the statement he released.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 07:31 PM) I could see his heart being in water polo along with building his stock in baseball at college. I'm at 50/50 that he signs. Did you read that article posted above?

Day Two Draft Discussion
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 05:08 PM) Man, assuming he signs Abbott's development is going to be fascinating. Hard not to actually get excited about the pick after reading that, Cummings clearly saw something special in him. Very cool stuff. Pretty much the opposite of "that other guy" who grew up in the same area.

White Sox pick 3B Jake Burger at #11
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 03:32 PM) The Sox version of Todd Frazier? If that's the hope from first round draft choices, then the Sox should trade them once it is allowed. 2 time all star with an average .810 OPS over his first 4 full years in the league at controlled cost? Third place in Rookie of the Year voting? Yea, trade that before it even starts.

White Sox pick 3B Jake Burger at #11
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 11:29 AM) Chicago White SoxVerified account @whitesox 39s40 seconds ago Jake Burger (@Burgatron13) is calling into @ESPNRadio Chicago today at 1:30. Cool... I'm happy for the kid. Saw him projected to go to Boston in some late mock drafts and at that moment thought, "Redsox will get a steal there." While we didn't necessarily get a potential "steal" at #11... I hope we've got a solid bat that'll give us some much needed OPS for years to come.
