QUOTE (Real @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 07:35 PM) why would any Scout worth his salt recommend acquiring Alexei Ramirez Um... maybe because he plays above average and at times gold glove caliber defense. Or it could be that he's been hitting something like .330 over the past 6 weeks. Could also be that he has the ability to do pretty much everything on a diamond. Hommie can hit, steal, run, field, and throw. His power has disappeared, yes... but he's still a solid player signed to a reasonable contract.- Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
For whatever it's worth - there is a post on MLB Trade Rumors asking respondents if Peavy or Garza has more trade value. So far, 60+% of the over 3,000 polled vie for Garza.- The hi8is Expret Trade Assessment
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 11:47 PM) Increasing those trade values silly ! You're so cute- Another White Sox winner
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 06:26 PM) Man. It's weird to have the season be over so quickly this year. Very strange. 2-3 seasons of this can decimate a fan base as precarious as the Sox's, right? Not if they come back strong in 2015 or 2016 as a bleeping FORCE. Then it's upswing city...- The hi8is Expret Trade Assessment
Bummer. Since starting the TPSM campaign - we've won twice. s***.- The hi8is Expret Trade Assessment
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 10:00 PM) I don't think the #1 draft pick will mean anything close to how any upcoming trades go. A draft pick will start in low A ball and start the long climb towards the top. The Sox are looking to get guys close to the top already far removed from the buses of A ball. I'm hoping the Sox go on a roll till the deadline upping everyones trade value as much as possible so we get as many talented pieces as possible. After that I hope whoever is left and who we got in trade kicks ass too. Upping their value for the off season or giving us hope they will produce next year. Good perspective - it's hard for me not to become a prospect whore and want to start building from within while watching our beloved Sox flirt with a 100 loss season. Thanks for talking me off the ledge but the Trade Peole, Suck More!!! campaign rolls on.- The hi8is Expret Trade Assessment
My motto right now, so eloquently stated... Shall be a slogan for the next 11 days: "Trade People, Suck More!!!" Seriously. I want this team gutted with the likes of every Charolette fodder on the field losing as many games as humanly possible. For the first time I sincerely want this team to lose every possible game and have the worst record in baseball. Hell, I'm down to do it all again next year too. Stock up and plan for 2015 - Trade People, Suck More!!! The revolution has begun. /vomit And finally, for those long time soxtalkers wondering - no, I am not drinking again. Just insanely bored with this awful devil laden excuse for a season.- Why so quiet so far?
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) There are plenty of teams that need help in both leagues. Right now they're all trying to pretend they are going with other options and not willing to give up minor league talent in order to squeeze the sellers into accepting less .This is balanced by the sellers saying we have our asking price and we aren't going to settle for less. So the buyers reassess their teams day by day hoping they don't go on any losing streaks in the last 10 days before the deadline. Eventually someone will cave. Sox don't have to move Peavy or Rios but they're in a prime position because they seem to possess the most talent on the market right now. Yet they have the offseason and next year to trade either or both . The iron might never be hotter for the Sox . Totally dead on as always Cali- Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
Well, The Great Peavy Sweepstakes has indeed begun. So far potential suitors seem to be who... - Nationals - Cardnals - Yankees - Diamondbacks - Rangers - O's - Blue Jays - Red Sox Despite reports - my money is on St. Louis or Arizona. ( Oddly enough... the same two teams who are denying any interest - LOL )- Pirates looking at Rios and Alexei
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 06:17 PM) Now now now hi8is I feel ya but you have to understand that the White Sox had a chance to win every year at the deadline but 2007. There was no rebuilding option. Recognizing the aging core, I think he did a good job of infusing youth and staying competitive. The problem is the big moves didn't work out right but I can't fault KW for making these: Vazquez trade looked awesome. Flowers was absolutely destroying baseballs and AJ had a few more years. Coulda been a masterpiece of a deal. Signing Viciedo. Dude also destroyed baseballs in a changing climate where power was going away. Trading for Swisher. He was supposed to be a nice OBP plus power cornerstone to build around but screwed us. I can't fault him for any of these but if the first two played as advertised we'd be an unstoppable force with a lineup of say dr Aza, Beckham, Tank, Flowers, PK, Dunn, Rios just murdering pitching for the next decade. Oh my, lets not forget TCQ. I'm not anti Kenny Williams... I just can't agree that his mode of operation was retooling and rebuilding. Contreras / Loiza was awesome. McCarthy / Danks was great timing. Quentin was one of my favorites. I was all for Thome for Gio/Rowand. Swisher ( both trades ) was god awful. Vazquez amounted in absolutely nothing. He had a lot of hits but his misses where pretty devastating... And he most certainly did not have a focus on rebuilding the farm. To Kenny, the farm was a trade Petri dish.- Pirates looking at Rios and Alexei
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) Kenny retooled nicely and stocked the farm. Here's the general consensus Jerksticks.... seems like your expression is indeed the minority.- 7/20, Sox vs Braves, Peavy back
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 01:10 PM) game blacked out on MLB TV and MLB Extra Innings. Any other options? That's what I be askin yo- 7/20, Sox vs Braves, Peavy back
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 01:06 PM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 4m NYY on normal coverage. AZ not pursuing him. what? Um... yea... sure.- 7/20, Sox vs Braves, Peavy back
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) mlb.tv Saturday games after 1:00PM EST and before 8:00PM EST are not shown on mlb.tv due to FOX blackout rules. If this wasn't the case, I'd be a happy camper watching my mlb.tv account streaming in 720p on my 50 inch LCD from AppleTV. Hence, I need to watch some s***ty quality hacked stream. If anyone knows of such a stream - hook a brotha up... please.- 7/20, Sox vs Braves, Peavy back
Anyone know a site that will be streaming the games video for us out of towners?- Looking Back
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 08:41 AM) Scout the Arizona Fall League every year and incessantly chase those players from other teams. Lol - good point.- Looking Back
Just wondering what you all think K-Dubs most common mode of operation was. It sure was always fun this time of year and during the off season with Trader Kenny. Thanks for the memories.- Pirates looking at Rios and Alexei
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 09:15 PM) Well we always had a legitimate shot at the playoffs under Williams except for what, 1 year? And he retooled nicely and stocked the farm. What is the evidence that Hahn is a great negotiator; Keppinger on 3 years? Williams dealings mainly involved trading the farm. It worked to an extent but times have changed. The table is flipped, it's a whole new ball game when it becomes retooling. I don't think stating Williams retooled and restocked the system is correct. Regarding Hanh and his negotiation skills, he has always been responsible for contract talks. You can point to Keppinger but then again, you could also point to Sale. Over time, I've been impressed with Hanh in his dealings with this regard. We'll see how this translates when dealing for prospects. In all seriousness - we never saw Williams in this capacity. 90% of Soxtalk would likely attest to that. ( I think... Let's see since there's not much to talk about at the moment. ) Edit: Yep, most disagree with your point of view regarding Kenny retooling our farm system: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=89496 Don't take this as an attack Jenks... I'm just extremely board and having intermittent insomnia- Pirates looking at Rios and Alexei
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 02:37 PM) Sox have been VERY active, but are playing the market patiently. Good - contenders aren't going to all have their needs met, our injuries will hopefully mend, and prices should be driven upwards as supply limitations continue to unfold. This is one two week period that will really show us a difference between Kenny and Rick. With Williams ultra aggressive style, he didn't have many opportunities to display leverage tactics. Hanh on the other hand is known to have high negotiation skills. Bring it...- Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 03:38 PM) I'm ready for a bunch of deals just to get some new blood in here...I'm reading Bears notes in freaking July and that's not right. I hear ya - time goes by slowly when refreshing trade winds and mlbtraderumors two weeks before deadline day. Snoooooooze... - Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
