QUOTE (rafacosta @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) well...the way PK is swinging in the last 2 at-bats was proly a good idea to send him. I just didn't want to see another out burned. The next good jump by a Sox player this series will be the first. Konerko kind of made that a moot point unfortunately, but I'll take the tie game.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Where did I say anything about who cares more? I merely pointed out that your argument was in fact the dumbest argument Ive seen on this board. I dont care who you are, how many games youve watched. Ive read 99% of your posts, they are for the most part self serving and trying to show the rest of us how much you know about baseball using metrics. Unfortunately I could train a monkey to read statistics and then make after the fact arguments about a player. But I dont care, lol. Thats why I went to 10-20 games the first 2 months of the season when the Sox were drawing less than 25k. How many did you go to? This. This entire argument is just... it's dumb. No offense. Please stop, it's making my head hurt.

COX, DO NOT SEND RIOS AND GET HIM THROWN OUT

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) Please get a hit with RISP today Sox! Ask and ye shall receive

I don't know which argument is stupider, the one about WAR or the one about people caring. Watch the game, guys

God dammit Guthrie pitch the game

Lillibridge just had an "oh s***" look when he realized that ball was playable but foul
-
lol what was that Pierre... held his glove up to some kid as if to give him that warning track ball he just caught, then takes it out and throws it back to Rios or whoever. Why not just give the kid the ball, damn
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 04:00 AM) Rios was safe, so actually no. Look at his sb% this year and then the years before that in Toronto. There is definitely a dropoff.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:52 AM) Linebrink has been good at times (even if some fans refuse to believe it) bad at times this season. Yay for not being a total f***up every game. Props!

I don't know where I'd rank myself. Either "slightly exceeding" or "exceeding." I consider the "average" fan to not be braindead and someone who actually knows a reasonable amount and doesn't drool on themselves etc. so I chose "slightly exceeding." However, I'm definitely several levels above the people who comment on the big sites and if those are "average fans" then I'm in "strongly exceeding."

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:18 AM) Thats cuz they haven't invented toilet paper strong enough for the task at hand. ...wait, are we still doing a metaphor? I'm... not sure.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:34 AM) I'll start looking for that. As for production, I'll take 2-for-3 with a RBI from my catcher EVERY GAME. EVERY ONE. So would I and in a heartbeat. That hasn't been AJ this year though... the only time he seems to be putting any kind of effort forward is when runners are in scoring position (and his body language tells on him, too)
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:32 AM) He goes 2-for-3 tonight with a Ribbie and gets hurt and catches grief on here. Amazing. I'm not giving him grief... well not in the way you think anyway. He's looking like a self-pitying sorry sack of s*** and he needs to get it together. That's kind of a pet peeve of mine. Remember Fisk yelling at Deion Sanders?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:28 AM) AJ got a key hit tonight. I don't know what you guys think you see in his play that is so ominous in terms of his "loafing." Did he not stroke a key hit??? His batting average is low so he's been pouting for months? I didn't see the play but I've seen no mention anywhere in the game stories where AJ did something cocky or loafed so badly on the play he got hurt he was called out for it. You guys see things the baseball writers and broadcasters do not see. Watch him the next time he grounds out or something. In this game, I think in his first at-bat he chopped a weak grounder between the pitcher and the shortstop and didn't even attempt to run it out, he just jogged to first base at half speed as if to say "oh well, it wasn't a line drive, f*** it."

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:25 AM) The Sox pretty much told him they didn't want him when they tried moving him before his 10-5 kicked in. Most players would step up to try to prove their point. It seems like AJ has been in a 2 month pouting session ala Nick Swisher since then. That probably doesn't even happen if he's not... well, sucking really bad. He needs to get his head out of his ass, it's not the type of player he's been in his time with the Sox.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:24 AM) FWIW, Ozzie's bad lineups have won us a lot of games and Schowalter's good lineup scored 2 runs. We aren't winning games because of the lineups. Schowalter's lineup had to face Gavin Floyd though.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:22 AM) Its crazy, we are just over 2/3s of the way through the season and 16 games over. If you extrapolate that out, we are on a 93-69 pace. I would have never thought we would have that kind of season, even at this point. I thought we'd be on a pace for about 88, 90 tops (I didn't see the embarrassing start, I didn't see the unreal hot streak, but nobody else did either)
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:06 AM) Real hard to drum up sympathy for a player who injures himself while loafing. ^^ that about sums it up, I'm not happy he (hopefully only almost) hurt himself but he's been dogging it for how long now? He looks like he just doesn't care out there.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 10:44 PM) Nice win. Good to see Putz close it out. Gavin Floyd was pretty good tonight. If we can avoid wasting outs on the basepaths we would have a few more runs and maybe some more continuity in offense. Lets see Viciedo as the DH for a good chunk of the rest of the season. ^^

Remember all those times where we'd win, but the Tigers and/or Twins would refuse to lose and we couldn't make up ground? Nice to see the shoe on the other foot.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 09:49 PM) How far of a drive is Baltimore from Chicago? 10-12 hours. Pretty boring drive though, any time the turnpikes get near civilization (Cleveland, Pittsburgh) it goes around it so you never see anything but highway and trees.

eh I grew up without really having s*** too, but I was really good in school and I had the "luxury" of a stable household so I was pretty lucky there. People are different. I don't think my race had much to do with anything and never really did, but being poor (deciding some months whether we needed hot water or electricity) was the biggest thing. Unfortunately in most cases black/hispanic = poor. Oh and kap although you haven't said it I can guess that I agree with you on one thing - I hate the victim mentality of black folks, blaming other people for factors they actually have more control over than they like to admit. Still I don't think the playing field is really even, all things considered.
