  1. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 07:56 PM) So are you saying that government workers are generally smarter than private sector employees, or just your average McDonalds workers? I think he means more like, if see a government employee making $90,000 it's probably because there's a need for skilled labor and they're not just living fat.
  2. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) The scene is the Green Mile where Percy Wetmore "forgets" to wet the sponge on top of Eduard Delecroix's head before he's executed. Honestly, it's actually more disturbing in the book too. Yes.
  3. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) I find the ending sequence in Requiem For A Dream pretty disturbing. Yeah I remember that, when they cut off his infected arm, and ole girl had the 2-sided dildo at that freak show whatever it was... I was like really? wow. Is that what I think it is?
  4. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) Are the wages for the vast majority of government workers really that high? I know we hear of some directors and stuff that are making what sounds like generous salaries, but it seems most workers are in line with private sector jobs. Federal employees make a decent living wage but you'd never mistake them for a rich person. I'm talking rank and file types, not senior management or SES.
  5. Ozzie used his gut in '05 a lot and did things like leave his starters in. Not exactly outside the box but that was something he deserved credit for at the time.
  6. We really need for Bobby to not suck. The team drops off so much when he does.
  7. Oh and also she tries to make it sound like she used some restraint when she made those comments. God, what is her regular personality like if this is what she considers "restraint"? In her off time does she practice Hitler speeches and the Heil Hitler salute in the mirror at home? She gives counseling sessions at Klan rallies? She is a mod on nsm88.org? I mean, really.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) I thought Nick Masset, Mike MacDougal, Sisco and Aardsma were all "power" arms, too. (I know, I know...Coop likes this kid, his make-up, his varied repertoire of pitches, etc.) Only Masset was a prospect when we got him. The rest were all MLB pitchers.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 07:35 PM) Oh duh. Probably shouldn't have skimmed your initial post. No, you were right, you haven't contradicted anything I said
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) And friends can check in for you with that feature unless you change your settings. Right. You'd think they would have you opted out by default and to use it you'd have to opt in, but no. They just turned it on by default for everyone. So dumb.
  11. Speaking of Foursquare, recently Facebook added "places" which is basically their answer to Foursquare, and it's enabled by default. Granted, it's all irrelevant if you don't participate in it and check in at these l locations, but it's kind of funny how clueless Facebook execs are about their reputation for being s*** with privacy. It's like they literally have no idea what they're doing sometimes.
  12. QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 09:51 AM) LOL Oh god help me. This is what I am in for pretty soon. I wish I married someone with good credit. Don't marry your fiance if her score is less than 660. lol. Make her print it out for you if necessary.
  13. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 10:36 AM) Player salaries aren't driving up ticket/merch prices. Owners have the goal of making as much money as they can, and regardless of if the players make $50,000 or $5 million, they will charge as much for tickets/merch as people will pay. It's one of many things. This is what i say when people are like "why do you care how much Matt Ryan makes, do you think the Falcons management gave that to him just because they're generous and they think he's awesome?"
  14. Sarah Palin bloviating about Dr. Laura's free speech rights being "erased" or some s*** and Dr. Laura is whining that she is a victim of free speech suppression (despite admitting she was wrong when she did it). Ok this isn't really that complicated and shouldn't need to be explained: it's not cool for white people to say "n*****" a bunch of times in public, in almost any context, and when they do, people get pissed off. The First Amendment works both ways, not just in favor of assholes. I said this on Slate so I'll just copy and paste it. "Free speech my ass. That is not how someone's 1A rights work. In the real world, adults are held accountable when they say unacceptable things in public (and yes, people do decide what's unacceptable based on how they feel about it). Call it "political correctness" if you want but it comes off as whining about the fact that people won't let you get away with acting like an asshole whenever the f*** you want."
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 07:28 AM) Bush - Obama - QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 08:51 AM) In terms of Iraq? Yeah, that's about right. Glad to see we are on the same page. More or less, yeah. Not particularly happy with Obama on Afghanistan, but there are no options except to do something that sucks.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 01:39 AM) The workplace in America in many lines of work would be a much better place if we had people like Ozzie Guillen willing to speak their minds and not kiss ass to all the higher-ups. There's way too much buttkissing in the workplace. Fans are big boys/girls. They should be able to take Ozzie calling them out for their fan rants, which often are as stupid as his own. The workplace today is full of kiss ass employees who are taking businesses down with them. Go Ozzie! Just because a majority of workers are afraid to speak their minds doesn't mean Oz is wrong for doing so. Ozzie rules! Greg this post doesn't make a lick of sense. You're comparing Ozzie to the real world? I'm not a butt kisser I did the equivalent of what Ozzie said at work: Client: I want you to get this project done by an earlier deadline, also I want it done a certain way Me: I'm gonna do it the way I want, and f*** you if you don't like it! If you don't like it then just don't bill my work. ...I'd expect to be fired within hours.
  17. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 08:12 AM) I agree with a lot of what you said, but considerign the revenue they generate and the inherent danger of the profession, football players can't be paid enough IMO. That's true but the player salaries don't rise as a percentage of revenue from the owners, they rise with ticket/merchandise prices, etc.
  18. QUOTE (iguchi=dank @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 11:14 PM) 1st. The "cool it down" peeps really need to just LET IT GO, its a freakin message board, more than 50% of the posts are going to be DRAMATIC and sometimes stupidly over the top, but why can't you just let that go, and reply to the posts you like, having 3x the posts because you can't take the pessimism and then the whiners whine that you don't have to respond, then you responding back just makes this like site like a marriage, too much wasted time arguing over nothing. Honestly, when things are going good, its overly nice on here, with what has happened the last week.. obviously the posts are going to be a little drab. QFT, the whining about the whining is really annoying.
  19. I try to ignore him when he says stupid s*** like "f*** you, if you don't like it then don't watch the team" like he did last year when he was getting ripped for playing Wise so much. I can't though. Let's just say that I notice.

    Coach Tex

I'm coaching my stepdaughter's softball team (I don't know why they're just starting in August but whatever).
  21. The last combat brigade left Iraq today and the 50k are left. That means that since Obama got inaugurated there have been about 100k troops that have left. Which is a lot. I was getting tired of people whining on the lefty blogs about how the war in Iraq was still on as if this was Obama's choice and he was sitting around intentionally doing nothing.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 10:39 PM) I honestly dont care what he says. Athletes and celebrities are torn apart so much by the media because of their words in the heat of frustration that I dont pay attention to it. Imagine if your team at work just failed and someone stuck a microphone in your ear and asked to to talk about how you f***ed up? It would take alot for me not to hit someone. But you just defended it. Or at least part of it. Ok color me confused then.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 10:33 PM) Whats he supposed to say? Yes, he's so good we dont want to pitch to him, my team sucks, we dont have the players. Thats how you lose a clubhouse if you are retarded enough to take that POV. He's the manager of a sports team, he's trying to back his players and he doesnt give a s*** about players in the other clubhouses. You saw all the rest of what he said? That breathless rant? Not exactly his finest moment.
  24. My wife's financial habits are just so f***ing godawful. It's like having cancer. I don't know what I got myself into sometimes, she's like quicksand around my ankles. I was talking about going on a cruise next spring for our 5th anniversary but I said "we aren't going to do anything though until we catch up on our bills, I don't care how many years we've been married, it's pretty stupid to go on a vacation while we're behind on bills." I still have a nice healthy balance on my electric bill from that debacle a few weeks ago, and she is somehow behind on the Verizon bill (although she insists it's not a big deal). She asks me a few minutes ago "so when you say 'we' do you really mean 'me'"? I wanted to say "yes b**** who the f*** did you think was gonna do it? You better start pinching pennies"
  25. I love football, and I am a huge Bears fan (although unfortunately I agree about the stupidity of fanbase factor, ugh) but the overcommercialization of the NFL is what really dulls it for me. The round-the-clock coverage of everything is nauseating, and the annual Favre soap opera and things like the verbal fellating of Tom Brady, so I tend to avoid it as much as I can. This has costs though because I find myself not knowing things I normally would when I watch postgame coverage, shows throughout the week, and so on. Basically everything I don't like about the NFL anymore revolves around the its relentless pursuit of revenue, and it just feels bogus as hell. The excessive commercials, the skyrocketing free agent deals, the ridiculous contracts given to rookies (costs which are passed down to the fans in various ways btw), needing DirecTV to get Sunday Ticket, the price of Sunday Ticket who only really care to watch one team, ticket costs going up every year for the same product, charging fans full price for pointless preseason games nobody gives a f*** about, exclusive licenses given to Reebok and EA Sports, I could go on. And a lot of people buy into this brand without questioning its value at all (and not really even being aware that they're doing it), so when you tell them something like this they look at you funny like "what's wrong with you, football is awesome!"
