  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) Alex Brown in the 4th was the best pick in Angelo's tenure? I'm not sure I buy that from the author. He calls Briggs a potential HOFer a few lines later. The more I read this...this guy really likes Alex Brown. And complaining about letting Berrian walk? I don't really agree with everything he said. He does make a pretty valid point IMO about giving money to Vasher which could've been used to sign Berrian (I don't remember, was that the same year?) but I mean, Berrian was going to go and make Top 10 WR money which is just something he's not... at the same time, look at our WR corps since then. Yikes. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) The biggest points imo are Angelo/Lovie's fetish for the DL and complete neglect for the OL. ^^ Not just a fetish but a tendency to draft s***ty players... I mean, Dan Bauzin? What the f*** was that about? I liked the Dvoracek pick but he made Mike Brown look like the NFL's version of Cal Ripken.
  2. I got really hammered once and didn't know what to do so I called Ozzie for advice. He suggested I get in my car and drive home. Since I didn't die or get arrested it was good advice and the smart thing to do.
  3. I didn't think what he was saying was really that complicated to be honest. If you have the urge to respond to what you think is criticism of Ozzie from him then that's probably where you're going wrong.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 10:31 PM) That's a very depressing article. Depressing cuz I wish I could, in proper conscience, say something like "damn what a piece of s*** fan, why does he even watch" but deep down I know he is right.
  5. Long read but worth it: http://thetribunalbar.wordpress.com/2010/08/30/753/ This guy's blog covers in detail the rise and fall of the Angelo regime. It pretty much helps explain why the Bears are mediocre, basically it has to do with Jerry Angelo's terrible drafting, blatant and outright neglect of the OL, inability to draft WRs, and fetish for making odd DL choices. He actually started off halfway decent and looking at the drafts and how the team was being built I can actually justify the fact that I used to defend his moves. Since 2007 his drafts have been brutal.
  6. QUOTE (WinorDie88 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) If Bobby blows another one is he STILL our closer? Everyone else we've tried has s*** the bed. And the people we would try (again) are both on the DL.
  7. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 10:11 PM) we really have noone else.... I know, I'm saying that there is anyone warming up at all, let alone Linebrink.
  8. Linebrink warming up with Bobby on the mound? Normally when you're the closer, you get the ball in the 9th and look back and if you get in trouble, there's nobody there, it's all you. But Linebrink of all people? Ouch.
  9. QUOTE (WinorDie88 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) Kotsay with three hits. Has he become good now? He's been uncharacteristically not s***ty for about a month now.
  10. QUOTE (WinorDie88 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) Gomez almost looked like Willie Mays when he played against us There was that one year where we (LITERALLY) subsidized his batting average, and he was absolute trash against everyone else. That was irritating as hell.
  11. QUOTE (WinorDie88 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) Then how come I've heard Hawk more than once say on t.v. that there is a lot of good young talent in our minors? Hawk is the same guy that used to talk about Carlos Gomez (who is really bad at baseball) like he was the Dominican Willie Mays.
  12. It's f***ing nuts how good a SS Alexei has turned into. Where's Cubano when you need him? His 2 favorite Cuban White Sox have been earning plenty of praise this year.
  13. QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 07:10 PM) Thinking back on all the times we had to face Manny...he was such a smart hitter. It wasnt all power and physical talents, he was so intelligent when it came to the knowledge of working a pitcher throughout the game and at-bats. He reminds me a lot of Frank Thomas.
  14. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) This whole Manny v. Hitler commentary is ridiculous. They didn't even have fertility drugs back in Hitler's day. On the other hand, I have heard that the Fuehrer once left a deuce to ripen in the middle of his bunker.
  15. QUOTE (VAfan @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) What is the lineup going to be with Manny in it? I would hope for: Pierre Rios Manny Konerko Quentin Pierzynski Alexei Vizquel/Viciedo/Teahan Beckham In this lineup, Quentin could be as important anyone, because he's going to be up with more guys on base. I think Vizquel stays at #2 and Rios drops down to 5 or 6.
  16. Where is the evidence of Manny quitting? Seriously. His numbers show nothing like it.
  17. QUOTE (bobryansson @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Let's carry this to its logical extreme, just as a mind exercise. I am absolutely not minimizing the horrors of the soon-to-be mentioned individual to the completely-trivial-in-comparison level of cheating or quitting in a sport-as-entertainment. I am absolutely not raising the cheating/quitting transgressions to any higher level than to use them as evidence of, or lack thereof, a certain moral fiber that I would like to see in the sporting events I choose to watch as entertainment. If Hitler could hit the ball like Babe Ruth, would you be in favor of him being the DH for the White Sox? For those who say they'd not, yet are in favor of Manny doing so, where is the line of differentiation? It's somewhere between being a generally self-centered asshole and murdering 6 million people and starting wars of conquest and being one of the most reviled figures in human history. Not sure where exactly, though.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 02:35 PM) This is one of those things that makes me feel old. I was a teen when all of this was going on, but a lot of people on here weren't even born yet. Ugh. I remember it but I used to watch as many Cubs games as Sox games back then. IIRC I was much more into the Bears and the ascending Bulls dynasty.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) I was just messing with you. Other than performing a hard reboot on Kapbot 2000 there is no way to change what he's posting. lol, I figured as much. When you talk to kap directly it's almost like you're talking to a totally different person.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) He may be referring to the senior home that is currently just outside of right field of the stadium. Some people think of them as "projects". Or, if you go about 4 more blocks south along Wentworth, you do in fact hit some row-homes that are indeed "projects". I suppose, but when I think "projects" I think Robert Taylor, Stateway Gardens, Ida B. Wells, etc. all those high rise buildings in Bronzeville that are all gone now. Those were all close to the stadium but still on the other side of the 35th overpass and more or less separated for all practical purposes. Bronzeville is barely even recognizable from what it used to be back then.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:37 PM) Blame the lazy moderator of this forum. kap is going to be kap. I mean, I or anyone else can't really make him stop from making s***ty posts.
  22. QUOTE (hawksfan61 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) I have read that it was done in order to not have all of the fans exiting the park and walking right into the projects, which is what was there for the most part in the late 80's early 90s when the park was being planned. Part of the decision certainly may have been a "nostalgia" issue, but I think fan safety was the other consideration. Maybe true but the projects were on the other side of the expressway. If you're going to the L then you're still going in the direction of the projects. You save a couple hundred feet I guess.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:55 PM) You obviously don't travel much to see other stadiums. It's much much much better than it was in the 90s when I used to go as a teenager. That place sucked and they totally blew it. The renovations did right by the park though imo.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) If facebook existed through history... http://www.facebook.com/#!/album.php?a...p;id=1665303095 bahahaha thats f***ing awesome.
