Yeah I'm not going to spend any energy defending Ozzie (he hasn't given many reasons to this year) but the pattern has gotten really old. Then it only gets worse when the inevitable "Ozzie is above criticism" or "so are you gonna give Ozzie credit NOW since the team isn't melting down and I don't look silly for mocking people?" counter-arguments start.
-
Ozzie's been talked about waaaaay too much this summer. Yes he has done some really boneheaded s*** this year and he is responsible for certain situations that were ongoing (Kotsay) but damn. He's really not worth all this attention.
-
I dunno... I guess I just don't get that, at all. I never get too high or too low unless a player is playing really bad for an extended amount of time or if he is playing really awesome for weeks at a time (Rios, Konerko, Beckham, Jackson, Floyd, etc.) and I don't even really post about routine everyday things in the winner threads. So right now, getting excited about Bobby kind of comes off like me being happy that he's not f***ing up. So I'm indifferent and I can pretty much see why nobody's saying anything after Bobby's hit so many valleys this year.
-
So you fiercely object to the fact that you don't see people randomly singling Bobby out for praise because he's gone 3 games without blowing a save? That's... odd. People don't really do that especially since Bobby's gone thru this cycle about 3 times this year, at least.
-
I really don't know why you randomly brought up Bobby Jenks in THIS thread. He was mentioned in the winner thread (where you'd expect to see props) a few times.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 5, 2010 -> 03:33 AM) You guys slay me. You sometimes act like getting a f***ing save in Boston before a sellout is easy. He got two. No credit. Uh, Putz failed. That one game Sergio got lit up. Uh Thornton got abused on the road in that one stretch. Yet, Bobby. No credit. Amazing. And you guys just don't see it. It just slays me. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore;_ylt=...F?gid=300830105

Yay, Bobby Jenks hasn't spectacularly blown up since a little while ago! That's about all the enthusiasm I can muster right for him right now, when I look at him I don't see "the past 5 days" I see "2010." It's not 2 years ago, and I still feel uneasy when I see him come out, like another 3-run collapse is just another inning away.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 4, 2010 -> 11:41 PM) Isn't that standard pratice across MLB for all teams? When a pitcher hits a batter to issue a warning immediately? Not really unless the umpire thinks something is going on or is about to go on.
-
Beekman? f*** man, how bad do you have to suck to get drafted by the Bears for OL and then get cut?

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 4, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) Carlos was involved in a play at the plate in the 3rd where he hit salty. It was a clean play. In his next ab - lackey threw inside for the first pitch for a ball. The second pitch hit him. At the end of the inning Carlos and Lackey appeared to be talking with no hostility... Lackey probably saying to him that it wasn't intentional... Q probably reminding him that he is a b****. The umpire issued a warning... I don't really know what that was all about.

"Honey, don't die!" "Um I'm trying not to, but I'm hoping it doesn't have the same effect as 'dont cum'"

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 4, 2010 -> 12:44 AM) Except it isn't "giving away a free out". More often than not, they are successful. More often than not? And how is that quantified, exactly? I'm not really talking about sac bunts btw I'm talking about blowing outs on the basepaths, Rios burning up outs, etc. If that happens early in the inning it very well could be a run. Also this doesn't necessarily have anything to do with Ozzie, but it does piss me off when he has the MLB steals leader on first (with a good sb% to boot) and Ozzie bunts him over for no reason.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 4, 2010 -> 12:30 AM) Unless someone has a stat that talks about the runs created by the same activities, it is impossible to quantify if it has helped us or hurt us over the course of the season. Keeping track of just the negative numbers is an embarrassment of onesidedness in an age of any stat you want at your fingertips. That's some Keith Olberman type stuff right there. How do you figure? What's better in a vacuum, a player with a .750 OPS or a player with a .820 OPS? You can't quantify the exact number of runs created by having a higher OPS but it's not like it's hard to tell which one you'd rather have, either. Given the choice between giving away a free out with one of the team's better hitters in the middle of a game I'd rather not... given the choice between a player who gets thrown out stealing unnecessarily often and staying on first more (or even better, only being sent to steal when it's advantageous to do so) I'd take not being thrown out.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 4, 2010 -> 12:21 AM) What exactly is wrong with Ozzie's lineups? the team has been hitting the s*** out of the ball. It's a miracle this team wasn't buried in May and that's partly because of Ozzie. You guys that hate Ozzie are going to have to put up with him another season. He's not going anywhere. Ozzie's tendency to waste outs leads MLB by a pretty wide margin (see BigSqwert's sig) That obviously hasn't been killing the hitting, but it doesn't help at all either. Too many times the team ends up losing a baserunner who later would've scored, or they are in a position where they are forced to have to produce with a runner on 2nd and 2 outs when there should've only been one, etc.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 07:17 PM) Felix Hernandez was better than both of them. I saw in some comments somewhere today someone talking about the Cy Young and they said they'd stop watching baseball if Hernandez got the Cy Young over Sabathia because Hernandez has only 10 wins. I facepalmed, this is a pet peeve of mine. Sabathia's been great but really now. How many wins would HE have on the Mariners? Pretty big difference between them and the Yankees don'tcha think?

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 11:53 PM) And they just showed a replay from earlier in the game when West blew ANOTHER call against the Twins, and then threw out Gardenhire for arguing. Maybe he hates the Sox AND Twins. He's just a douchebag, that's all.
-
I think this argument is kind of funny.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) I'm sure if the Raiders head coach goes for it on 4th and 25 on his own 30, fails and gives up a TD on the next play, but the Raiders still win the game, it was the correct move and Al Davis doesn't second guess him on it. "Just Win, Baby" If the Sox had Albert f***ing Pujols and Jerry Owens, and Ozzie PHed Pujols for Owens to face a righty in the 9th abd the Sox still won, Ozzie would be ripped to pieces for that around here (100% warranted) but I'm convinced there will still actually be an argument here about whether it was stupid or not and whether Ozzie deserves criticism for it. Joe Morgan makes statements like that all the time, "Guillen had Konerko attempt to steal home and it worked so it was the right move!" And its why he gets mocked all the time and a website dedicated to how bad he is.
-
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 07:11 PM) Melo would be great, but you would definitely need to include Noah in the deal. I personally would do so, but I know too many people who wouldn't. Denver really wouldn't want Deng at all. I'm a huge Noah fan but if he is what's preventing the Bulls from getting Carmelo, I'm driving his ass to the airport.
-
For some reason it just doesn't feel like the Sox offense has been scoring so many runs, and opposing commentators have been mentioning how much of a good hitting team this is and I would laugh every time. It reminds me of I think 2007 when the Bears D line was leading the NFL in sacks during the season but it seemed like they were underachieving because the defense was so bad.
-
There's some really sharp posters over there and I really do miss it. Its just not worth it, though. Soxtalk tends to get pretty obnoxious and irrational sometimes but that's just what a message board is like.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) I think you might be angy with him because he screwed up a play a couple nights ago? I hate sounding like a downer but there's pretty much nothing good to say about his defense at all this year.
-
Joe I'm sorry but your trade is just volunteering to be raped. That trade is like the equivalent of offering Mark Teahen for Adam Jones and Brian Matusz. Why would the Orioles do that?
-
The bullpen has lost so many games for us that it's just sickening.
