  1. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) I CAN'T BELIEVE OZZIE HAD PUTZ FACING THE TOP OF THE ORDER. AWFUL BULLPEN USE. I HAVE BEEN SAYING IT SINCE 2005 OZZIE IS AWFUL AT HANDLING THE PITCHING STAFF See how ridiculous some of this is? ??? I knew somebody was going to do this. What are you saying? Putz goes into a tie game in extras and Roberts just hammers the everloving f*** out of the ball... I mean... it happens. That excuse is used for Jenks and to an extent it's valid, but Jenks passed that threshhold a few weeks ago (probably when his ERA got back over 5 again).
  2. I'm not a "fire Ozzie" guy but I literally get angry when the Sox get a fast guy on to lead off the inning (Pierre, Rios, etc.) and a good contact hitter with power comes up (Ramirez, Beckham) and Ozzie calls for a bunt. There's no reason to do that at all. Sure you have no guarantees with a steal attempt but at least try a hit and run... something.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) All I can say about this clusterf*** of a series is at least the pitching wasnt bad. But the offense was April-May bad. The pitching was pretty good... no complaints about the effort from any of the starters or the bullpen. The offense really has to do better than that though... I mean come on. Probably wasted 5 outs on the basepaths to boot.
  4. I don't really remember there ever being a time where the resources consumed by software (especially RAM) weren't growing at about the same rate that hardware advances were. Every time I did major upgrades to my desktop with DIMMs that were twice the capacity, a CPU with another gigahertz over the last, or more cores on my CPU, I wouldn't really notice any speed increase (except for when I had a fresh Windows installation) because I always had new software that used even more resources.
  5. http://chicago-bears-fan-zone.info/744/bea...cago-bears.html Read this and the comments too. Facepalm.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) The Japanese military was holding out hope that through discussions with the Russians, Japan could come to a deal with the other Allies that would allow them to end the war with the single condition of retention of the Emperor. That hope ended when the Russians entered the war...but they still managed to extract the concession of Imperial retention from the Allies. The Japanese got an invitation by the Russians in 1945 to try to negotiate the conditions, and when the Japanese ambassador showed up the Soviet foreign minister handed him a formal declaration of war instead. I imagine the Japanese ambassador had better days than that.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 12:30 PM) I'll never understand why it has to be one or the other. You can be a fan of the team, and involved in following them without needing to be extreme about it. Freaking out about everything doesn't make you more of a fan than the people who see only the positives, or vice versa. It almost gets to be a contest amongst the fans of each team to see who can out D-bag each other over who is more right, the optimists or pessimists. You can enjoy the game and the team, without needing to be an absolute homer or only expecting the worst. Being the loudest person doesn't mean anything. I have emotional swings sometimes but I think they're pretty normal when you're invested in a team the way I am... actually, when the Sox are bad (like I thought they'd be going into June) I get disconnected and tend to not care.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) I will also be taking my talents to South Beach. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?...+to+south+beach
  9. Holy s*** not the Anderson thing again
  10. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) This isn't the exact same thread as yesterday, if you're referring to my other post-loss thread. My other thread was referring to overreacting after 1 road loss This thread is referring to the general tone of the board I just meant the negativity in general... meh, maybe I'm just too wound up right now. After all, I'm b****ing about b****ing about b****ing.
  11. I don't remember all of what was posted here around the trade deadline, but does anyone else see the irony in Pods playing for the Dodgers and Pierre playing for us?
  12. You're not going to get a warning, that's just silly talk.
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 06:32 PM) Is it suspension-worthy to suggest that people who are so unhappy about the site's environment just leave? matter of opinion I guess but I suppose one could say "then just don't post in these threads." but they're everywhere. If constant b****ing is more annoying, then constant b****ing about how people b**** one-ups it. I don't know why anyone would bring up 2005 either. I wasn't on Soxtalk then but I remember feeling disgusted and despondent as the Sox nearly choked the division away and then ecstatic when they finally pulled through. It's not like I, or anyone else, spent all of 2005 just filled with uncontrollable glee at the inevitable World Series win. We didn't know. We know how we felt afterwards but I guess some choose to ignore how they felt during. That's just how emotions work during a season.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 01:02 PM) The Quotable Ozzie Guillen from The Onion The colorful White Sox manager is in the spotlight for comments about supposed favoritism toward Asian players, but it isn't the first time he's had something to say. * 2006: "I very much love the people and the fans of Chicago, because they pay me very much to play a baseball manager in Chicago, even though I very much hate the people and fans in Chicago" * 2006: "I don't give s*** about the home-field advantages for the World Series. You know what I care about? Where the f*** is the Smash Mouth? Why aren't they here for singing the 'All Star' song? I love that s***" * 2007: "I love Dustin Pedroia. He is very good hitter. And he has a strong back, so he could be climbed up on and I sit on his shoulders and ride around on him like riding a little horse that loves me and eats apples and I have to pitch around because he is a good hitter" * 2008: "I never say one bad thing about those stupid f***ing Cubs fans. Not a single word about those mother-s***ting pieces of f***" * 2008: "If we win the World Series, I will quit baseball and run for mayor mostly on a campaign platform of minimizing the city's budget, while still raising revenues with strategic tax plan for Chicago businesses" * 2009: "Wrigley Field makes me puke. When I eat a little bit of the ivy on the wall it make me puke barf everywhere" * 2010: It's not the fair for Japanese players have the interpreter. I want the interpreter so I can understand what the f*** it is I am talk about" lol, all of this could very well be actual Ozzie quotes
  15. Isn't this basically the exact same thread as yesterday?
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) What happened? Good news is he should be at DH tomorrow anyways. He had a routine fly ball but it was hit right into the sun and he couldn't find it. Deflected off his glove and Jones ended up on second.
  17. Quentin had no idea where that ball was... and he's limping.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) On a slider? I doubt it. eh I was posting here and saw it out of the corner of my eye, I didn't see it was a slider. I saw the replay though after I wrote that.
  19. That was a Dye-esque play by Quentin out there. Although in fairness Im not sure what he could've done.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 03:02 PM) Well, gonna have to pick him off now. Beckham has a strained groin...hopefully he's back soon. He's one of the hottest hitters on the team too, we need him. Lillibridge needs to stay awesome
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) They're making this way too easy for Guthrie. IIRC Guthrie is harder to hit as the game goes on.

    AJ

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 11:58 AM) stupid half-slide aside, AJ is a tough MFer. He takes a beating out there and rarely goes out for injury Someone can double check this, but I don't recall AJ ever going on the DL. (knock on wood)
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) Lostfan, I respect you as a poster, but I really dont care what you think at this point. If some one attacks me and says that "They care more than me" Im going to point out how ridiculous of a statement it is. /shrugs I know, and that's cool, but I'm not coming after you or cw or anybody else, I just wanted to see the arguing stop. Not even saying that as a mod, just as somebody who's trying to read the game thread (which, to your original point, I concede do get pretty ridiculous sometimes)
