There's a newly foreclosed property at the end of my row (I live in a townhouse) and damn, it only takes 1 to make the 30 or so surrounding houses look like s***. The bank doesn't cut the grass or anything and they boarded it up.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) The whole damn article boils down to the last two paragraphs - and that is where the person was headed. Bipartisanship IS dead and Republicans ARE full of s***.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) Oh, you mean General Betrayus? Yea. Obama is a hypocritical douchebag. Find me a link where Obama said that. I'll wait. Actually I'll do you one better, find me an example of where anybody resembling anything close to a leadership position in the Democratic Party did anything other than condemn moveon.org for that ad.

If that is your takeaway from it then I don't really know what to tell you.

It's nice when someone else besides me "gets it." Since it's a guy's blog I'm just gonna paste the whole thing here. I don't necessarily endorse everything he's saying (I'm not pro-gun control for example), but the general thrust of his article is that people are full of s*** and delusional about certain things. http://open.salon.com/blog/robert_kelley/2..._to_some_things

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) Really? I had no idea that was something fake. I thought it was just a periodic time out like gmail does. It does do that sometimes but it's not always easy to tell a legit site, which is why people who are otherwise smart and know what they're doing get caught.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) So my facebook went haywire last night and had one of those spam things post on like 200 of my friends walls saying to click here to get a free ipad or whatever. Thing is I did not click on one of those things to spread it, and I was not doing anything to have caused it. I have since changed my password, removed every application that I didn't trust, and scanned my computer and it found nothing. What could have caused it? Did you accidentally sign into a fake-but-real-looking Facebook site somehow? Like you clicked something and it told you that you had to sign in again?

General McChrystal is going to be on the next episode of "When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong" Btw this is a rough summary of how a virtual exchange went. Obama: I'm firing General McChrystal. Right-wing press: And who are you going to replace him with? Al Franken? Nancy Pelosi? Obama: No. actually, General Petraeus. Right-wing press: Oh. Umm... well, does he actually have a strategy? Petraeus: Yes. Pretty much the same one since I literally wrote the book on it. Right-wing press: *crickets*

It's so much better watching this team when they're actually playing to their capabilities and half the team isn't underperforming.
-
Yeah... kap you're really talking out of your ass... if they wanted to get rid of McChrystal they don't need to make up stories and s***, they just do it. That's what they did to McKiernan.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) Yea, they do know this. Which tells me this whole thing is a set up. Or he did it on purpose.

Thinking about how impressed I am when any player gets 20 rebounds in a single game, the fact that Rodman routinely did it a couple of times a week just blows my mind. I almost wouldn't believe it if I hadn't watched him do it.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) Adobe Systems announced it has released the mobile version of Flash Player 10.1 to its platform partners, and the media player will "soon" arrive on Android 2.2-ready phones. via I have a Motorola phone (so it has Motoblur), how can I tell which version I have?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 08:37 PM) I bet Obama was just building a strawman and letting this situation get worse so he can come in and fix everything. Also, somehow redistribute the wealth. Don't talk s*** about superior officers/ commanders, period. That's like rule #1 in the military. Well, everyone does. Just not in public. And especially not to a reporter.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) Good to hear, from that article it didnt seem like he was at fault. Glad they didnt try to pin a scapegoat on him. Yeah, they had an issue with him going thru the smoke, but control told him to do that and he was following orders. Then they had an issue with him going thru the fire, but honestly him doing that (even if they think he shouldn't have) got the passengers to the platform faster so they could get the hell out of there, he said he had no regrets about doing that.

It doesn't matter, every officer in the U.S. military knows this. He is the president. McChrystal is a subordinate. The end.

QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 01:23 PM) Booked my tickets for VA!! Be there from the 30th-6th!! Can't wait, I'm sooo stoked on life!! What mode?

Gen. McChrystal knows better. That's easy stuff, like Military 101. That said, McChrystal himself didn't really say that much that could be seen as derogatory or inflammatory, and most of that was said by his staff. Still, perception is reality. Why they decided to do the interview in the first place is anybody's guess.

RE: my earlier post, the CTA's not going to fire my dad... glad they did the right thing.
-
Did any of you hear about the Red Line fire yesterday? My dad was operating one of those trains. I don't really want to type the whole thing on the open internet like that but what the union president says in this article is more or less what my dad told me. I'm really hoping they don't try to make him the fall guy (and not just saying that because he's my dad). He did what he had to do, he didn't damage his train, and his passengers didn't get hurt. The situation wasn't caused by the operator's incompetence, though. I don't really want to write anything until the investigation is over but if you want to know something you can PM me.

Are you trying to fly directly from Bakersfield to Bristol? That would be why... Bristol is kind of in the middle of nowhere. Try LAX (which would suck for you but not as bad as like $500) to the nearest regional airport... which it looks like is Tri-City airport which isn't too far from Bristol. If you don't want to do the 2 hour drive to and from LAX, and wanna fly out of Bakersfield, that's probably about an extra $200.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 11:57 PM) "Monster" as in powerful-looking, or as in way too long, like CQ? I dunno, I didn't see all his at-bats so I can't break down his swing, just the one where he ripped the ball.
-
I just watched the video of his hit (I was out all day) and his base hit was a hard line drive, like VAfan said. He has a monster swing.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) You cite a single game to support your theory? Come on, basketball is easily the most obvious sport where a single great player can make a nobody team into a contender. In baseball, a player can carry a team for a stretch, but they cannot single-handedly make a team a contender. Eh, that's both true and false. Before they were given Pau Gasol for a used tampon (lol J4L) the Kobe Bryant-led Lakers were barely a playoff team.
-
This recent stretch was the way I expected the starting pitching to be like for the entire year. If they didn't completely bomb there's a reasonable chance this team is in first place right now.
