  1. I forget the Friday games against the Cubs are always in the afternoon.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 08:24 AM) I disagree. If you spend more money than anyone else your chances of winning a title increase tremendously. The lack of a salary cap favors the top tier (in spending) franchises. Just look at the titles the Yankees and Red Sox have won in the last decade. Of course it was different prior to free agency. BTW, I voted the World Cup. Only 7 different nations have ever won it. You can also ask the GM of the Orioles, Blue Jays, and Rays (Rays' recent success notwithstanding) how easy it is being in a division with those teams that have de facto unlimited resources. It cancels out. If you're not one of the favored teams it's pretty difficult to build a strong MLB team and a farm system for sustained success without being really bad first or just being lucky. The MLB draft is a crapshoot compared to the others, the prospects take forever to develop if they ever develop at all, and sometimes your best prospects flame out for no good reason which really sets your program back. If you make the playoffs it's true that anything can happen, usually, but that's really hard to do. And if you're a player, forget it... I didn't pick World Cup because it's too obvious of a choice being every 4 years. And the BCS system is kind of a joke so I didn't pick that either.
  3. QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:21 AM) I don't necessarily think that KW should be fired either.. but jesus christ how could he go into this season with Kotsay and an unknown in Jones as the DH? I don't care what Ozzie wants, KW should have known better.. There's nothing wrong with Kotsay being on this team, in and of itself, he's proven that he's a good pinch hitter/bench player. The problem is that he's much more than that on this team and obviously not very good at what he is here.
  4. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 03:22 AM) Not calling you out but where can I find information on all that? knightni's link covers it pretty well. It's in the book Lies my Teacher Told Me too (I just posted that in the catch-all thread) and it's all backed up with primary source material. I only remember reading about the good parts of his administration in school, when he did a lot of really foul things too that we just don't talk about for some reason. Wilson's administration set race relations back probably 40 years, was more or less directly responsible for the re-birth of the KKK, and a lot of that damage didn't get undone until the civil rights era.
  5. I'm reading Lies my Teacher Told Me. Fascinating book. I'm not even 1/3 of the way through it yet and it's already clear that the history we get taught up until college is a dumbed down, sanitized, and sometimes almost completely fabricated version.
  6. I haven't been following this that closely... who does Ozzie think he is?
  7. My facebook status: the series is tied 2-2, guys, neither team has done anything the other hasn't. Those of you who trash-talked for 2 of the games and didn't say s*** for the other 2 are a bunch of f***ing tools, and you know who you are so I don't have to call you out. Do I? Nah, you'll just pretend I was talking about someone else right? Also I've called out Kobe nuthuggers 2 or 3 times now. lol. Nobody likes to show their face. It's funny how "dynamic" my news feed is every other day... Laker fans (most of whom are not actual fans and only became as much sometime in late May) are quiet after the Celtics win and vice versa.
  8. Woodrow Wilson was an unapologetic white supremacist and had one of the most racist governments in U.S. history.
  9. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:31 AM) Then Roenick gets on, says what he says and I absolutely lost it. I was that kid crying at the Stadium in 1992 as he raised his arm and saluted the crowd before heading down the stairs, before I watched Mario skate around with the Cup. That guy did everything he could while in a Blackhawks jersey to bring us a Cup. All you could hope was that someday, that'd be us. Funny, a few pages ago I asked rhetorically "was that kid watching now" not knowing "that kid" actually posts here... did you mean that literally, that you were the one kid he was talking about?
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 03:01 AM) oh but on the other hand the republicans have done a wonderful job turning around the disaster the created, oh f***, sorry, it's the democrats fault, because the escalating debt dies down immediately once another party takes in power, i forgot. The republicans are amazing, they take into account what real americans (white poor uneducated people) think, in other words, they give white poor uneducated people power when they have none, because despite everything they managed to not do s***, educate themselves, and become wealthy. I believe they are the lowest of the low, but in fact, they are the highest of the high, we should all worship them, because they are white and were born in the rural areas, bastian of morals. I'm impressed by the surprising lack of s***ty grammar in this post.
  11. Well here are the teams/years: Bears: 1985 (appearance and loss in 2006) Bulls: 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998 White Sox: 2005 Blackhawks: 2010 Fire: 1998, 2000, 2003, 2006 Rush: 2006 Wolves: 1998, 2000, 2002, 2008 The Sky haven't been around for long enough so I won't count them. I think that's all of Chicago's teams, actually. Did I miss any?
  12. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 01:01 AM) When I bought the tickets for this game, I certainly didn't expect a packed house in D.C. I was thinking of going to this game a few months ago but I figured I could just walk up and buy DOG tickets. Whoops.
  13. Roenick said "to the kid who was crying when I walked off the ice in 1992, you waited 18 years" and I wonder if that kid was watching?
  14. Jeremy Roenick is crying. I actually was a Hawks fan and knew all about hockey in 1992 and followed that team closely
  15. Name the only Chicago team that has not won a championship in the last 25 years.
  16. I saw 15 runs scored and automatically assumed the Sox were having the s*** kicked out of them again.
  17. I saw a bunch of people saying "yeah but it was just the Pirates, and that's not a major league team, I could strike out about a dozen Pirates if I was having a good day." If that were true then there would've been a bunch of other pitchers who've done this against the Pirates already this year right? But there's not... not even one...
  18. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 11:23 AM) The UI is a problem. There is a "base" UI that you can use, but most people leave on the phone distributer's overlay. I think the uniformity will come when Google releases a UI that is good enough to be the default across all the phones. The control is a very fair point. I dont know how this will play out, but Android will be incorporated into cars soon... mark my words. With regards to charing, most, if not all, mobile phones will be charged via Micro-USB in the next few years. It's finally become the standard due to regulations in Europe. I'm not sure exactly, but I think the FCC mandated that all phones will have to use the same charger by 2012 here. Really there is no reason they shouldn't be, that's just a slap in the face to the consumer for many different reasons.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 11:38 AM) I love this competition to be honest. You have cellular carriers competing against one another for the most superior service for their. You have hardware vendors competing for the best piece of technology for their customers. You have software companies and developers competing for the best end user experience and customer loyalty. You have accessory companies competing for the best experience and value for their customers. It really cant get much better than this. Cable and Sat companies arent even competing and advancing as much as this market. I f***ing love it. Its about f***ing time. No matter what ends up happening, we will win.

    Cheap Car Insurance

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 02:09 AM) oh my god thats horrible! thank my lucky stars for USAA. ill never complain about them again! USAA wasn't always all that with me, back when I was about 21 every insurance company was trying to f*** me, USAA's rates were just slightly less s***ty than everyone else's, although I don't think anyone could beat what I'm paying now. When I bought my first car the Geico rep actually quoted me $3,000 for 6 months over the phone... yeah. Seriously, she did. I ended up paying like $1200 for the next few years (this was in Georgia). Then I moved to Maryland and had Progressive, and I was paying about $150 a month - you'd think your rates get lower when you get closer to the magic number of 25 but they didn't for me. What makes me hate auto insurance: About 4 years ago I was still paying those inflated rates with Progressive "because I am in a statistical category more likely to get in an accident" as a 24-year old male who is still paying nearly the same rates he did when he was 20. My wife got a case of the dumbass while she was driving my car and backed into a parked taxi and caused some minor damage. So the taxi driver got a claim of $313 for the damage... no big deal right, that's why I'm paying insurance, and since I am "more likely" to get in an accident (even though she was driving and not me, and I had never had an accident, even to this day knock on wood) that's why I pay higher rates. BUT they called me and said they were raising my premium by $280 because of that claim. That same day I cancelled my policy and got another one. I was thinking what the f*** am I paying insurance for? I could've paid that out of pocket and not had it affect my rates at all.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 08:51 PM) Maybe it's something the Great Don Cooper should work with him on? He's about to get himself in a ton of trouble here. Whenever Gavin pitches from the Floyd, everything seems to go outside to righties. ?
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 08:39 PM) Tied with Billingsley, Halladay, Silva and Paulino for the best of the year. All NL pitchers, of course. Well, no longer tied.
